Chapter 41: The Perilous Defense War (1)

Chapter 41: The Perilous Defense War (1)

Tianhu had agreed with Mawa to cover him before he climbed up the roof, and he trusted her marksmanship completely. So, he didn't pay attention to his surroundings and focused on sneaking onto the rooftop to take out the enemy machine gunner.

The Japanese soldiers saw Li Fei and Hain Aide on the upper floor and realized they posed an absolute threat to their attack. They quickly retreated and sent a machine gunner to the rooftop to suppress them.

The Japanese machine gunner also noticed the bullets coming from inside the house were accurate, so he was cautious. He crawled onto the rooftop, hid behind a beam, and aimed his machine gun at Li Fei and Hain Aide. He lay down and started firing continuously, with the clear goal of pinning them down to create an opportunity for the Japanese soldiers on the street to charge.

Their commander had also made it clear that they should try to capture the people inside the house alive, as they wanted to know who these bold individuals were, daring to challenge the mighty Imperial Army.

The Japanese soldiers didn't dare to show their heads, giving Tianhu an opportunity to sneak up on them. He quickly crawled over from the side and shot at them when they appeared.

Tianhu was a man who got excited whenever he saw machine guns. Seeing the Japanese soldiers fall, he immediately dropped his rifle, rushed over to grab the machine gun, and slid down from the rooftop with a big smile on his face, returning to Mawa's side.

"That was perfect! We have a machine gun now; I think we can hold out until nightfall without any problems," Tianhu said excitedly, already forgetting about the trouble Mawa had caused earlier.

Mawa didn't show any excitement and didn't even look up. "Don't be too optimistic; look what the Japanese have brought."

  "What is it?" Tianhu asked.

"You won't see it yourself." Mawa replied.

" Mortar!" Tianhu exclaimed, not expecting the Japanese to bring out such heavy artillery. He quickly turned his head and shouted at Li Fei and Hain Aide, "You guys need to come down! The Japanese are going to use mortars!"

"We can't go down; if we do, the enemy will charge over," Li Fei said while firing a shot at the enemy.

A Japanese soldier fell to the ground.

Hain Aide didn't respond but also didn't intend to go downstairs, continuing to exchange fire with the enemy.

Tianhu stopped calling out to them when he saw this.

Tianhu knew that if they let the Japanese use mortars, whether they were upstairs or downstairs, as long as they were in the house, they would either be killed by the blast or crushed by the collapsing building. In short, if they gave the Japanese an opportunity to fire the mortar, they wouldn't have a chance of survival.

They absolutely couldn't let the Japanese use mortars. Tianhu thought this and picked up the machine gun, charging towards the enemy while firing at them.

The Japanese soldiers didn't expect Tianhu to be so bold, and their formation was momentarily disrupted as they scattered in all directions, leaving the mortar behind.

Tianhu charged over and turned the mortar around but didn't know how to use it.

The Japanese soldiers were initially caught off guard by Tianhu's sudden charge but quickly regained their composure and organized a counterattack.

Tianhu couldn't withstand the enemy's fire, even with Mawa, Li Fei, and Hain Aide covering him from behind. The enemy's firepower was too strong, and they soon closed in on Tianhu again.
