Chapter 67: Farewell

  Chapter 67: Farewell

Inside a blue plastic bag was a whole bag of red rose petals, and in the middle of the petals was a large, delicate red rose.

"Grandma, these are your favorite roses. I told the florist they were for you and they didn't charge me a thing! They sent so many that the petals will scatter all around you, and you'll always be as lovely and fragrant as a rose!"

"And look, they even asked me to bring this one for you!" Tian Nuanyu said as she picked up the red rose from among the petals and walked over to the old lady's side, inserting the rose into her hair bun.

Then she walked to a table behind the rocking chair, picked up a dressing mirror on the table and returned to the old lady's side. She held the mirror in front of the old lady with a gentle smile: "Feng Nainai, look, how beautiful you are! Feng Yeeye will definitely like it very much!"

"Good, good! I knew Yuer would understand Grandma's heart the best!" The old lady looked at herself in the mirror, and the smile on her face was as beautiful as a rose in bloom.

Tian Nuoyu put the mirror back on the table, took out a red knitted vest from the bag on her shoulder, which she had bought for the old lady some time ago. It was originally supposed to be sent to the elderly, but it was delayed again and again.

In the morning, she saw this vest when packing her things and intentionally put it in her bag. She thought that after going to Mu Ao Yun's company, she would come here to see the old lady, but she didn't expect that as soon as she stepped out of Mu Ao Yun's company gate, she received a call from the director of the nursing home, saying that Feng Nainai was no longer alive.

Now thinking back, Tian Nuanyu felt that this must have been a sign from heaven.

"Grandma, I bought you another vest, wear it at night to keep warm!" Tian Nuanyu unfolded the vest in front of the old lady.

"Yu'er's eyes are so good, clothes really look good, grandma likes it!" The old lady smiled like a child.

"Grandma, as long as you like it, Yu'er will fold the clothes neatly and bring them to you!" Tian Nuanyu said while putting away her vest and preparing to fold it up.

"Don't worry about it, Yu'er, help Grandma put it on now!" The old lady's face was still full of smiles, but her voice had weakened.

"Alright, I'll help you put it on!" Tian Nuanyu stepped forward and gently lifted up the old lady's upper body, putting the vest over her cheongsam, then helped the old lady lean back against the chair.

"Yuer, help grandma get the box from under the table!" The old lady's voice was getting weaker and weaker.

Tian Nuanyu walked up to the table, bent down and picked up a large square paper box from under the table, then walked in front of the old lady.

The old lady motioned to Tian Nuanyu to put the paper box on the ground: "Yu'er, help grandma open it".

Tian Nuoyu squatted down and opened the box, seeing that inside were neatly placed multiple large red handkerchiefs wrapped in transparent packaging paper.

"When I made the cheongsam, I intentionally bought some extra fabric and had it sewn into handkerchiefs...I embroidered a small golden phoenix on each one...Grandma is leaving...without leaving behind anything precious...Yuer, help Grandma give these handkerchiefs to everyone...thank them for taking care of me all this time...these handkerchiefs are just a small token from an old lady like me...hoping they can bring you all some good luck..." The old lady's speech was becoming more and more disjointed, her voice growing softer.

Tian Nuanyu's heart couldn't help but feel sad, she knew the final moment was approaching, she held back her tears and took out a handkerchief from the box, distributing it to everyone in the room, and everyone's eyes were filled with tears.

"Wei Cheng!" The old lady's voice was already so faint it was almost inaudible.

The man who had greeted Tian Nuanyu earlier, the director of the nursing home, heard the old lady calling him and walked over to her side. He leaned in close to the old lady and said softly, "Is there anything else you want to entrust me with? Please go ahead and say it."

"Have all the arrangements for my funeral been made?"

  "Don't worry, sir."

"Great job... you've gone to a lot of trouble."

"Don't say such things, it's all Wei Cheng's responsibility."

"Alright, good job... thank you..." The old lady's eyes were already half-closed.

"Don't worry, ma'am!" The director solemnly grasped the old lady's hand and said in a serious tone.

The old lady curved up the corners of her mouth and drew a faint smile. She called out in a low voice again: "Yuer".

The director let go of the old lady's hand and stepped aside, Tian Nuanyu hastily came forward, close to the old lady's ear and whispered: "Grandma, Yu'er is here".

"Yu'er, thank you for coming to see Grandma off... Grandma has no regrets now... Grandma is gone... Good child, don't cry, smile instead..." The old lady's voice was low and only Tian Nuanyu could hear it.

"Yes, Yu'er understands, Grandma, you can rest assured that Yu'er will always be smiling from now on!" A faint smile appeared on Tian Nuoyu's face, but the sadness in her heart could no longer be controlled and spread to every corner of her body.

"Alright, then...". The old lady's face showed a satisfied and peaceful expression, and after a few seconds, she slowly closed her eyes...

The nursing staff whispered softly, and the dean also wiped away tears from the corner of his eyes, but Tian Nuanyu's eyes were dry.

She slowly squatted down, placed the old lady's hands on her chest, and wrapped them in her own palms. She gazed at the old lady's peaceful face without blinking for a long time.

It wasn't until after a while that the principal walked forward and whispered a few words in Tian Nuanyu's ear, only then did she slowly get up.

Maybe she had been squatting for too long, her legs were a bit numb, and when she stood up straight, her body swayed slightly out of control. A nurse next to her reached out to support her, and she said in a somewhat wooden tone, "Thank you," then turned around and slowly walked out of the room.

She walked down the stairs as if in a dream, crossed the courtyard and opened the gate. When she stepped out of the gate, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
