Chapter 68: Pouring Out
Lan Shengyan's car was still parked beside the gate of the nursing home and hadn't left. He stood beside the car, his body leaning against it as he gazed at the gate of the nursing home. When he saw Tian Nuanyu walk out, he straightened up.
Tian Nuoyu stood at the door, motionless and staring blankly at Lan Shengyan.
Lan Shengyan noticed Tian Nuanyu's abnormality and walked slowly to her front, quietly looking at Tian Nuanyu without saying a word.
Tian Nu Yu stared blankly at Lan Shengyan's cigarette smoke for a long time before she finally spoke up, her voice husky: "Why didn't you leave?"
"I'm just free and have nothing to do!" Lan Shengyan said lightly.
Tian Nuoyu understood that Lan Shengyan must have seen how remote the place was and how difficult it would be to get a ride back, so he had deliberately waited for her at the entrance. Her heart felt a wave of emotion, but she couldn't squeeze out even a hint of a smile on her face, and could only say in a low voice: "Thank you!"
"Are you going back now?" Lan Shengyan asked softly.
"Hmm!" Tian Nuanyu responded lightly.
"Get in then!" Lan Shengyan said as he turned around and walked to the side of the car, opening the passenger door before looking at Tian Nuanyu.
Tian Nuoyu walked slowly over and said "thank you" again before getting into the passenger seat.
Lan Shengyuan closed the car door, turned around and walked to the other side to open the door and get into the driver's seat, starting the car.
When the car started moving, Tian Nuoyu turned her head to take a look at the gate of the nursing home, and then looked up at the third floor of the building in the courtyard. As the car slowly drove away from the nursing home, it also gradually left Tian Nuoyu's line of sight. She slowly turned her head back, staring blankly at the front of the car.
Lan was driving silently with his eyes fixed on the front of the car.
The car wasn't going very fast and after driving for about ten minutes, it suddenly stopped.
Tian Nuoyu turned her head and saw that the car had stopped on a big bridge.
She knew that this was a bridge on a river near the nursing home, and it was also a necessary route to and from the nursing home. However, because of its remote location, there were very few passing vehicles.
Lan extinguished the cigarette butt, opened the car door and got out of the car, then walked to the railing of the bridge, holding onto the railing silently gazing at the river below.
Tian Nuoyu also got off the car and walked to Lanyan's side, silently gazing at the slow flowing river water under the bridge.
The river surface is quite wide, about ten meters or so, but the water flows slowly and leisurely, occasionally generating one or two small waves, which instantly disperse and merge into the entire river.
The river water is not clear, and the river bottom cannot be seen. A small amount of leaves and weeds float on the surface of the river, slowly flowing over with the current, passing under the bridge, gradually moving further away, flowing towards an unknown distant place.
It was already afternoon, the sun had slightly inclined to the west, but its rays were still exceptionally warm and passionate, casting onto the river surface, causing the originally calm and slow river water to become slightly agitated, waves chasing after the light, finally entwining with the light together, the river surface seemed as if a layer of flowing mercury was painted on it.
The two stood silently at the bridge for a long time, and Tian Nuanyu slowly opened her mouth: "She has a very nice name called Feng Yuanting, but now few people know her name. She said that when she was young, everyone called her nickname Feng Huang, and now everyone calls her Feng Nainai."
"I met her three years ago when I came to this nursing home as a volunteer, her story is just like what's written and filmed on TV, she was born into a scholarly family, used to be a talented lady, fell in love with a poor teacher at 18, broke up with her family, eloped, and finally married the teacher without any hesitation."
"They lived a life of displacement and poverty, with inadequate clothing and food. When the war came, her husband joined the revolution, and she silently supported him. Later, they had a son named Rú Shēng. At 15 years old, Rú Shēng enlisted in the army, but he sacrificed his life on the battlefield before his 18th birthday."
"Afterwards, she and Old Feng went through the end of the war, the turbulent years, and welcomed a new society. When they were about to enter their 70s, they could have spent their remaining years together in comfort, but Old Feng passed away first, leaving her to live alone for twenty whole years."
"This year she is ninety years old, all her relatives have passed away before her, but she said that this life has no regrets, married the one she loved, had children of their own. Although they did not walk together to the end, they accompanied each other until old age, and finally it was she who sent him off first."
"Although her family opposed her marriage at the time, they eventually forgave her and accepted Grandpa Feng. She said that she had never done anything against her conscience in this life, and that heaven had been especially kind to her, allowing her to live for 90 years in the mortal world, which was already very satisfying."
"Now the time has come, heaven calls her back to the paradise world, she can reunite with her loved ones and children. She said it's a happy thing, she told me not to be sad, but to be happy, but I'm still heartbroken."
"Perhaps between life and death, there is only a river like this one. I am on this bank of the river, while those who have left are on the other side. However, I cannot see them, even if we gaze at each other from afar. That's why I'm so sad."
Tian Nuoyu spoke slowly and softly, while Lan Shengyan remained silent without saying a word. However, Tian Nuoyu felt that he was quietly listening.
She and Lan Shengyan were unfamiliar with each other, and they didn't understand each other even more. However, at one moment, Tian Nuanyu felt that what she said and the feelings in her heart that she hadn't expressed yet, Lan Shengyan understood.
Lan's silence at this moment is the best way, she doesn't need others to comfort her, she just feels that in her heart, apart from sadness and sorrow, there is more emptiness.
Something that had always been there suddenly disappeared, she could no longer touch it, and there was nowhere to pursue it. A sense of helplessness and powerlessness entwined her heart, yet she couldn't find a way to vent it out.
Tian Nuanyu finally fell into silence as well, and the surroundings also fell silent with her. There were no vehicles coming and going, only the sound of the wind blowing over the surface of the river.
Suddenly, a ringtone broke the silence.
