Chapter 23 I Was Previously Engaged
In the middle of the night, Gu Xixin was woken up by a dry and itchy feeling in her throat. She got out of bed, put on some clothes, and went to the kitchen to get a drink. As she walked out of the bedroom, she saw a blurry black shadow on the sofa, which made her heart skip a beat for a moment before she realized who it was. Gu Xixin lightened her footsteps, turned on the wall lamp, and the dim yellow light cast a warm and fuzzy glow over the room.
Gu Xixin tiptoed into the kitchen, carrying a cup of water, and walked out. At this time, Gu Xixin knew she should carry the cup back to her bedroom, but her feet moved on their own towards the sofa.
Yin Shu was wrapped in a thick blanket, lying on his side on the sofa, with a face that always had a hint of a mischievous smile, but now had a look of distress. His eyebrows were furrowed together, and the expression on his face was unusually stern, it could be seen that he didn't sleep well.
Gu Xixin looked at Yin Shu curled up on the not-so-long sofa and felt a warmth in her heart.
At this moment, Yin Shuo's head moved slightly, and Gu Zixin was frightened to hold her breath. As a result, Yin Shuo just muttered a sentence and fell back asleep.
Although the words were not clear, Gu Zhixin still heard them clearly. He said: Zhixin, you're finally back.
Gu Xixin didn't understand what that sentence meant and couldn't comprehend in what posture she appeared in his dream, allowing him to have such a murmured phrase.
Gu Xixin gazed at Yin Shu, who was sleeping soundly. His straight eyebrows, sharp facial features, closed eyes, and slightly pursed lips made Gu Xixin once again marvel at the creator's favor towards this man, giving him such a delicate appearance.
As if possessed, Gu Xixin stretched out her hand and traced the contours of Yin Shu's face, only to have it caught by someone just as she was about to touch his skin.
Yin Shu opened her smiling eyes, and in them was clearly written: Gotcha!
Gu Xixin's face turned red, and she hurriedly tried to pull her hand out, but Yin Shu only held it tighter. With the help of the dim yellow light, Gu Xixin discovered that Han Yinshu's expression had changed a little, with unfamiliar emotions surging in his eyes.
Gu Xixin was about to pull out her hand and walk back to the bedroom, but Yin Shu suddenly pulled Gu Xixin onto the sofa and kissed her lips.
This kiss contained a strange affection that swept through Gu Xixin's mind, and Gu Xixin unconsciously responded to him. As her hands climbed onto Yin Shu's shoulders, her body also leaned closer to the warmth in front of her.
Unbeknownst to her, Gu Zhi Xin had already reached her limit and fell onto the sofa. Yin Shuo's kisses continued to roam across Gu Zhi Xin's lips, then her neck, and finally landed on her collarbone.
The strange emotions struck Gu Xixin's rationality, causing her to involuntarily let out soft gasps. As she looked into Shang Yinshu's enchanting eyes, she found that those eyes also had a longing that captivated Gu Xixin.
Yin Shuo's lips slid down along Gu Zhi Xin's collarbone, and the buttons on her chest were undone two at a time. A large area of skin was exposed to the air. Gu Zhi Xin shivered and blurted out: "Cold."
Yin Shu suddenly jolted, and in an instant, he seemed to have regained his composure. He straightened up, pulled at Gu Zhi Xin's clothes, "Sorry, Zhi Xin, I forgot you're not feeling well." Then, somewhat flustered, he stood up and said: "I'll go get some water to drink."
When Yin Shu walked out of the kitchen, Gu Xi had already tidied herself up and was sitting upright on the sofa. When their eyes met, they both felt a moment of awkwardness.
Yin Shuo walked over and sat down beside Gu Zhi Xin, using the back of his hand to check her forehead temperature, saying: "How come you're running a fever again?"
Gu Xixin didn't say a word, she couldn't tell Yin Shu because of what just happened, now her forehead wasn't the only thing "burning", her whole body was.
Yin Shu looked at Gu Zhi Xin, who was sitting there with a slightly knotted expression, and felt like laughing, but didn't dare to really laugh out loud, so he could only pull Gu Zhi Xin into his arms and hold her in his embrace.
Gu Xixin was curled up in Yin Shu's arms like a kitten, with Yin Shu's chin resting on her hair, and neither of them spoke for a long time.
"What's on your mind?"
"Huh?"
"Tell me about your past."
"A long time ago... what period of time did you want to hear about? Ah, actually I don't have many rich experiences."
"Tell me... about your high school and college days, anything is fine."
"High school... the memories of that time are quite vague, I was relatively well-behaved back then," Gu Zixin said with a slightly embarrassed smile. "Although I was relatively well-behaved, my grades weren't particularly outstanding either. Fortunately, my college entrance exam scores were not bad, and I met my initial goals, so I went to university."
"Is that all?"
"...That's all. I had a car accident after the college entrance exam." After being silent for half a day, Gu Xixin continued: "I always feel like I lost part of my memory in that accident."
The two people didn't speak again, with Yin Shu subconsciously tightening his grip on her arm.
"What's on your mind?"
"I... was previously engaged."
"Oh."
"Is the reaction so lukewarm?"
"You've already said it was before, so now it must have been resolved, what else is there for me to ask?"
Yin Shuo's laughter sounded above Gu Zhi Xin's head, "She was my first love, we were apart for two years."
"Why was the engagement cancelled later?"
"It wasn't until later that I realized, during those two years we were apart, I fell in love with someone else."
The two sat on the sofa, talking like this until Gu Xixin felt suffocated again, until her voice became softer and lower, until Yin Shu gently carried her back to the bedroom and covered her with a quilt.
Yin Shu gazed at the gentle face sleeping on the bed and whispered: "You don't know, do you? The person I fell in love with is you."
The next day, when Gu Xixin woke up, Yin Shu had already disappeared. On the table was a breakfast prepared by Yin Shu, along with a note he left behind.
Gu Xixin held the note in her hand and looked at the carefully prepared food on the table, silently laughing.
Yin Shu said in the note that if she felt uncomfortable, she could rest for another day. However, Gu Zi Xin lay in bed for a whole day and night, feeling like she was going to grow mold. Since her illness had almost recovered and she felt as light as a swallow, it was time for her to go out and get some sunshine.
After having breakfast, Gu Xixin tidied herself up, applied some light makeup and then headed out.
When I arrived at the unit, there were not many colleagues. It seemed that most of them had gone out for interviews. Gu Zixin opened her own interview book and was about to contact someone to go out and investigate. Just as she was flipping through the phone book, Gao Muyang's call came in.
Gu Xixin picked up the phone, wedged it between her ear and shoulder, and flipped through the materials while chatting with her: "Little miss, I thought you'd forgotten about me? Where have you been wandering off to lately?"
"Hey, a beauty like me is always busy, I barely had time to squeeze this in, and here I am visiting you!" Mu Yang was always able to joke with a straight face.
"You seem to be in a good mood, what's up? Ah, I guess I know, you're not having a romantic affair, are you?"
As soon as Gu Zixin mentioned this, Mu Yang suddenly became evasive, "That, let's not talk about it for now, see you at the usual place tonight, I have a surprise for you." He then hung up the phone in a hurry.
Gu Xixin shook her head and smiled happily as she looked at the darkening phone screen. She had a premonition that Mu Yang should have found the person she liked.
Gu Zi thought, finally there's something exciting again!
Digression
Kids, you're not behaving! No one answered your questions, so now you can only have a bowl of plain soup!
P.S: Still that sentence
