Chapter 22: A Small "Illness" Brings Joy

Chapter 22: The Little "Illness" Brings Joy

As a result, Gu Zixin still caught a cold the next day. She slept until midnight and was woken up by the chill, but she didn't think much of it, assuming she had just gotten too cold, so she wrapped herself tightly in her blanket, turned over, and fell asleep again. When she woke up in the morning, her head felt heavy and dizzy, and her feet felt like they were stepping on cotton, only then did she realize that she had caught a cold.

When the body has problems, the mind will also slacken. Gu Zixin thought that since she hadn't taken a holiday for a long time, she might as well take a day off and rest at home.

After calling her direct supervisor, Director Li, to ask for a leave, Gu Xixin fell back onto the bed and continued sleeping with her head covered. Half asleep and half awake, she heard the ringing of her phone, pressed it off vaguely, and then became drowsy again. She didn't know how long had passed when the doorbell rang repeatedly, waking Gu Xixin up from her deep sleep. With great effort, she got up to open the door, and upon seeing Yin Shuo's tense face with a look of anxiety, Gu Xixin relaxed her body and fell directly onto the floor.

When she woke up again, she smelled the fragrance of rice in the kitchen. To be precise, she was lured awake by the fragrance of rice. Gu Zixin felt much better now, and her stomach had started to rumble with hunger after not eating for half a day. Putting on some clothes, she walked into the kitchen and saw the man who was acting as the family's househusband. Yin Shu was wearing a shirt with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, carefully cooking porridge by the stove. Seeing her standing at the door, he came over and checked her forehead temperature with his hand, then nodded in satisfaction: "Hmm, your fever has finally gone down. I was scared earlier, so I called my doctor friend over, and he gave you some medicine to bring down the fever before leaving." As he spoke, he walked back to cook porridge, turning around to peck her on the mouth before doing so.

Yin Shuo's culinary skills were in no way inferior to his self-proclaimed abilities, the delicate preserved egg and lean pork porridge emitted a tempting aroma, Gu Zhi's appetite was opened wide, and she ate a large bowl.

"How did you know I was sick?" asked Gu Zhi Xin with a mouthful of porridge.

"I called your cell phone but you didn't answer. I thought you were in an interview. After work, I went to the company to look for you and it was your colleague who told me."

After dinner, Gu Zixin took medicine under Yin Shu's supervision and then was driven by him to lie on the bed pretending to be dead.

"I have something to do at the company this afternoon, I'll come see you again tonight. Cover yourself with the quilt and sleep well, don't get out of bed and walk around, did you hear? After thinking for a moment, he turned around and walked back to the living room, and came back with Gu Xixin's mobile phone and laptop, putting them on the bedside cabinet. "If you really can't sleep and are bored, just turn on the computer and watch a movie." Then he tucked in the corner of the quilt for Gu Xixin, kissed her forehead, "If you don't feel comfortable, call me right away, got it?"

Gu Xixin nodded and closed her eyes. After a while, she heard the sound of the door being gently closed, and Yin Shu had left.

Gu Xixin opened her eyes again, looked at the water, medicine, mobile phone and computer placed beside the bed, felt a sense of relief, and with that thought, she fell asleep again in a daze.

When she opened her eyes again, it was already somewhat dark outside. Gu Xixin touched her forehead and found that it was a bit hot to the touch; the medicine had worn off and she was starting to run a fever again. She struggled to sit up and look at the clock, not realizing that she had slept for three or four hours.

Gu Xixin got up to pour herself a glass of boiling water and gulped it down, just thinking of running back to bed to wrap herself up, when the doorbell rang. Gu Xixin walked over to open the door, and Yin Shu came in with a chill, holding vegetables and fruits from the supermarket.

He rubbed his hands together, feeling the temperature of Gu Zixin's forehead, and Yin Shuo's expression was a bit tense: "Damn it, she's got a fever again. Hurry up and lie down, it's even harder to get better when you're cold."

She helped Gu Zixin onto the bed, took her temperature and fed her some antipyretics. After drinking a large glass of water, Yin Shu instructed Gu Zixin to rest quietly before taking off his jacket to go cook in the kitchen.

Gu Xixin lay motionless on the bed, waiting for the medicine to take effect. In the dim light, the room was unusually quiet, and Gu Xixin could clearly hear every sound coming from the kitchen, guessing each step of Yin Shu's preparation of dinner.

After listening for a while, Gu Xixin felt that the antipyretic medicine she had taken was taking effect, her body started to sweat, her mind became clearer, and her whole body felt much more relaxed. After lying down for a while longer, Gu Xixin confirmed that she had indeed reduced her fever, got up and put on a sweater, then walked into the living room.

Yin Shu Zheng brought out two plates of stir-fried vegetarian dishes from the kitchen, saw Gu Zhi Xin come out and put down the plate first touched her forehead, confirmed that the temperature had dropped before revealing a relieved expression.

Gu Xixin sat at the edge of the dinner table, savoring the two brightly colored green vegetables, then scooped a spoonful of vegetable porridge in front of her into her mouth, and widened her eyes incredulously.

"Are you sure you did all of this?"

"Is there anyone else in this house besides us?"

"How did you get so skilled in cooking?"

Yin Shu thought for a moment and said: "When I was studying in the US, I often had to cook for myself. After a long time, I can make anything."

  "Not bad at all."

"You're sick now and can only eat something light. When you recover, I'll cook a few of my signature dishes for you."

  Gu Zi Xin nodded enthusiastically.

Just as dinner was about to end, Yin Shu suddenly said: "I'm not leaving tonight, so if anything happens to you at night, there will be someone by your side." With a matter-of-fact expression.

Gu Zi Xin suddenly looked like she was about to fall off her chin, "This way, isn't it not very good?"

Yin Shu didn't even raise his eyes, "Don't think too much, I just don't trust you that much. Don't worry, nothing you're worried about will happen, and don't be so confident in yourself." As he spoke, he raised his head to look at her with a playful gaze, "Or should I say, do you actually hope something happens?"

Gu Xixin was furious and stared straight at Han Xu, but the latter seemed unaffected.

Yin Shu stood up, clearing the table while saying, "I'll just make do with the sofa tonight." The affirmative tone meant: I've already made up my mind, no room for discussion.

Gu Zixin could only grit her teeth.

At nine o'clock in the evening, Gu Xixin listened to the wall clock striking the hour and thought: It's already so late.

Two hours ago, Yin Shu said he would go out to buy some toiletries and pajamas, and Gu Zixin didn't say anything. However, two hours have almost passed, and Yin Shu still hasn't returned. Gu Zixin wouldn't think that Yin Shu had changed his mind and wasn't coming back to live with her, but she couldn't help feeling a little worried: Does it take so long to buy something?

Just as she was lost in thought, the door opened. Yin Shu walked in with a large bag of daily necessities and pushed open the door to take a look at Gu Xixin, who was pretending to sleep on the bed, calling out softly: Xixin?

Gu Xixin pretended to have just woken up from a dream, mumbling unclearly: "You're back? I'm sleepy, I'll sleep first, goodnight. Ah, right, the quilt and pillow are on the sofa, you go to bed early." As she spoke, she pulled the quilt tightly around her and turned over, turning her back to Yin Shu.

In the dim light, Yin Shu pulled up the corner of his mouth towards the figure wrapped in a quilt on the bed, gently closed the door and backed out.

The last bit of light in the room also disappeared with the closing of the door. In this complete darkness, Gu Xiang's spirit lifted, and her two ears searched for any possible sound in the living room with all their might, but unfortunately, there was not a single movement.

For the first time, Gu Xiang was in the same room with Yin Shu so late at night. She admitted that she indeed felt a little strange inside. At this moment, lying on the bed, she couldn't help but wonder what he was doing, whether he also had some ups and downs in his heart like her. However, she couldn't deny it, because he was guarding outside, Gu Xiang felt very secure.

After lying in a daze for a while, Gu Zhi Xin entered a sweet dreamland.
