Chapter 21: You Must Take Responsibility for Me
It wasn't until the morning, when Gu Xixin walked into her own cubicle, that she fully came to her senses. Yin Shuo was not as harmless as he seemed on the surface. The words from last night were still ringing in her ears, and the proof of his methods was now laid out right in front of her.
"I knew you weren't a thrifty lamp!" Gu Xixin resentfully stared at the large bouquet of roses on her desk.
Gu Xixin ignored the ambiguous or knowing glances from the people around her, calmly sitting down in the chair. The card in the middle of the bouquet had Yin Shu's name prominently displayed on it. Gu Xixin helplessly rolled her eyes, pulled out the card and slapped it onto the table.
She pushed the bouquet aside and began to work on her computer, the onlookers who had gathered around saw that the rumored female lead was still so calm and collected, they too dispersed to attend to their own matters.
"Quite a stir you've caused! Have you offended General Yin?" Shen Zihuan turned her chair around, teasing her when no one was paying attention.
Gu Xixin had always been close to Shen Zihan, so no matter what happened to her, she never kept it from her. So up until now, in the entire newspaper office, only she knew about Gu Xixin and Yin Shu's situation.
"Ah, capsized in a ditch, huh!" Zi Xin said with self-mockery.
"You're really something, having a god-level boyfriend by your side and still managing to keep it under wraps. If I were you, I would've already flaunted my happiness in all sorts of ways." Shen Zihuan said softly.
"Happiness also comes with a price... Look, take a look." Gu Xixin hinted to Shen Zihuan with her eyes to look back, Shen Zihuan turned around and found that two colleagues from the entertainment section were huddled together whispering something, occasionally stealing glances in their direction. When they saw Shen Zihuan turn around, they both became somewhat embarrassed and busied themselves separately.
"Cut it out, you were born with an eight-bitch face! Don't mind them." Shen Ziheng was quite nonchalant. "Zi Xin, what are you thinking?"
"I didn't think much of it, isn't it just afraid of becoming a topic of conversation for everyone after dinner? It's really afraid of what comes next."
Shen Zihan stopped talking, biting her lips that were painted a peachy red color, thinking for half a day before hesitantly opening her mouth: "You're not... you're not still remembering what I said to you back then, are you?" She was referring to the complicated context of something she had mentioned previously.
"It's nothing, it's my own fault."
"I advise you not to think too much, just because you meet someone who is excellent in all aspects doesn't mean you should doubt their sincerity. You have to know that it's possible for good things to happen and even fall into your lap. Shen Zihang returned to his usual carefree smile. Then he said seriously: "Never reject an opportunity to be happy just because of some messy thoughts, sometimes taking a crazy chance at life is what makes it fulfilling."
At noon, Gu Zixin and Shen Zihuan didn't have any interviews, so they decided to go to the tea restaurant downstairs to solve their lunch. As soon as they walked into the first-floor lobby, Gu Zixin stopped in her tracks. Not far away from the front desk of the newspaper office, a man was leaning against the counter with one arm, listlessly fiddling with his phone. Standing behind him, company receptionist Little Liu's small face was flushed with excitement and nervousness, occasionally sneaking glances at the oblivious man.
She's indeed causing trouble wherever she goes, Gu Zhi thought to herself.
Shen Zihan apparently also saw him, and immediately with a playful expression, she whispered in Gu Zixin's ear: "How about it, I told you, actions are still better when they're planned." As she spoke, she pulled Gu Zixin towards their target.
"General Yin, it's not as good to hear about you as it is to meet you in person! My name is Shen Zihan, and I'm a colleague and best friend of Ruo Xin." Shen Zihan stretched out her hand to General Yin.
Yin Shu also smiled like a spring breeze, holding Shen Zihuan's hand and saying: "The people around our family's Qixing are really unique! Miss Shen is talented and beautiful, it's an honor for me to know you!" His words were double-edged, flattering the two beauties while also complimenting himself. Gu Qixing could only roll her eyes in admiration at the ceiling.
Unfortunately, someone wouldn't let her deliberately feigned ignorance get away with it. "Darling, come and have dinner with me." The term of endearment made both Gu Xixin and Shen Zihuan feel a chill run down their spines at the same time.
"No, I promised Zi Han we'd go together..."
The result was not even finished, and someone had already surrendered without dignity: "I just remembered that I have something important to do, you guys have a good lunch!" Then he gave Gu Zixin a gentle and charming look before escaping quickly, and while walking, he exaggeratedly made a cold and shivering expression.
Gu Xixin helplessly watched Shen Zihans back, and followed Yin Shu out of the newspaper office building.
"How come you're here at noon?" asked Gu Zixin as she sat in the car.
"I was worried that you'd get angry and hurt yourself, so I rushed over to await your instructions." Yǐn Shù still had a cheerful smile on his face.
"You also know I'll get angry! Are you doing it on purpose?"
"Heaven knows I'm telling the truth... let bygones be bygones, and next time will be the same!" Yin Shu's expression clearly said "you can't do anything to me".
Now, Gu Zhixin was completely helpless. She steeled herself and let it go, anyway, it's too late to regret now. As expected, this move should be known by the cleaning aunt on the floor.
Two people found a place to eat near the street, because parking was not allowed on that street, so Yin Shu first put down Gu Zixin and drove for a while before finding a parking space.
After dinner, watching Gu Zixin's time to go to work was approaching, and there was also an interview scheduled for the afternoon. Seeing that Yin Shuo had almost finished eating, he kept urging him to leave.
The two walked out of the restaurant, perhaps because the air conditioner in the house was turned on too high, or maybe Gu Xi ate too much, and Gu Xi, who only wore a thin shirt, felt a hint of coolness.
Noticing Gu Zixin's slight tremble, Yin Shu hastily took off his own coat and wrapped it around Gu Zixin's shoulders, leaving himself in just a thin dress shirt. Now it was Yin Shu's turn to start shivering, and Gu Zixin insisted on returning the coat to him. The two pushed back and forth until Yin Shu finally grabbed Gu Zixin's hand and they sprinted all the way to Yin Shu's parking spot, where they both arrived panting heavily.
Gu Xixin was bent over at the waist, panting heavily, looking at Yin Shuo who was in a similar state.
Yin Shu's narrow and long eyes had an uncontrollable sparkle, the fine sweat on his forehead shone with a colorful glow under the sunlight, his hair was also messy from running, unlike its usual neatness. The expression on his face changed vividly, if he wasn't wearing a suit, Gu Xixin thought he looked just like a sunny and mischievous college student. This Yin Shu was unfamiliar to her, but she felt that this version of him, she liked more.
Yin Shuo kept looking at Gu Zhi Xin, watching as her gaze gradually filled with a smile, which then spread across her face. Yin Shuo's chest was filled to the brim, and on an impulse, he rushed forward and kissed Gu Zhi Xin. The kiss was domineering and intense, carrying a momentum that swept everything away. Under Gu Zhi Xin's rapid breathing, this kiss made her even more breathless, she wanted to open her mouth to say she was having trouble breathing, but just as she did, Yin Shuo's agile tongue... Soon, Gu Zhi Xin felt like she couldn't breathe, and her whole body went limp, unable to stand on its own, her hands also instinctively grasping onto Yin Shuo's shoulders.
After a while, the two of them parted with heavy breathing. Gu Xixin's face was slightly red, and she didn't look at Yin Shu, saying: "Let's go quickly, I'm going to be late." Without waiting for the other person to react, she turned around, got on the car and sat down.
Yin Shu sat in the driver's seat, started the car and drove forward. All the way, Gu Xi didn't speak or look at him, Yin Shu looked at someone who was obviously shy but didn't expose her, his mouth corner always had a smile.
Arriving at the newspaper office building, Gu Xixin unfastened her seatbelt and was about to get out of the car when she heard the person beside her say calmly, "My first kiss is yours, so you have to take responsibility for me."
