Chapter 4: Since the last time Li Hui helped Wang Zijiao avoid the teacher, he discovered that Wang Zijiao was no longer as guarded against him as before. Sometimes when they met in the corridor, Wang Zijiao would still smile and greet him. Although there wasn't much verbal communication, it was a significant improvement for her.
"Can I borrow your math notebook?" Li Hui asked, lightly tapping on Wang Zijiao's shoulder. Wang Zijiao looked at him, didn't say anything, and handed over a colorful notebook from her desk drawer. "I'll return it after I'm done," Li Hui said, flipping through the notebook. He saw that the important points were written in different colors, making it easy to understand. Although the handwriting wasn't great, overall it was quite good. It showed Wang Zijiao's diligence and attention to detail.
Li Hui couldn't help but feel curious about Wang Zijiao. What kind of person was she, really? What stories lay behind her silence? He felt that she must have been an outgoing person before.
As for Wang Zijiao, she could still sense Li Hui's kindness during this time. She thought that even if he had a bad reputation in his previous school, it must have been due to the environment. People are born good, and he wouldn't have reminded her to pay attention in class, saving her from being discovered by the teacher.
"You don't recognize this character?" Li Hui asked, breaking Wang Zijiao's train of thought. Wang Zijiao turned around, looked at it briefly, and then turned back. Just as Li Hui thought she was ignoring him, a piece of paper slipped onto his desk from the front. He was taken aback and looked up to see Wang Zijiao, picking up the paper to examine it.
Li Hui couldn't help but laugh; she was too cute. The writing on the paper was just like her notebook - illegible. He wrote a response on another piece of paper: "Please forgive me for my limited skills, I really can't guess what you're trying to write. Can you please write something simpler?" He passed it back to Wang Zijiao.
Wang Zijiao opened the paper and saw Li Hui's message, her mouth curving into a smile. She realized she had been too nervous and wrote something that even she couldn't recognize. She rewrote it neatly and handed it over to him from the right side of her desk.
Li Hui took Wang Zijiao's notebook for two or three days but didn't return it, making her feel uneasy. She was worried about how to face him again, pretending not to know him. But she couldn't just take back the notebook now; that would be too awkward. What should she do? She felt a bit flustered.
Li Hui had been holding onto Wang Zijiao's notebook for days, asking her questions from it every day. He was waiting for her to get angry and demand the notebook back or to finally open up and answer his questions.
