Chapter 4 Selection
Every moment is making choices, or being chosen.
Lin Fang didn't know how long it had been, if not for the ear-piercing alarm that kept reminding him at every moment, he really wanted to believe that this was a nightmare.
"It's interesting." A person with a light and proud face said a sentence that caught Lin Fang's attention.
Lin Fang raised his head and looked at that arrogant person. He saw him get up from his seat and walk towards that strange door.
"Wait a minute, what do you want to do?" Lin Fan said to that person with an unknown surge of strength.
"I'm going over there." This arrogant person didn't even look at Lin Fang and said with a proud tone.
"We still don't know what's over there, you're recklessly going over, isn't it dangerous? Moreover, how do you plan to get past that strong wind." Lin Fang this time was completely blocking the person's path, stopping his advance.
"It's all in the past, isn't it? There were two ropes, just grab them and go." The arrogant person finally looked at Lin Fang, but his response left everyone bewildered.
Lin Fang was stunned by such a simple answer, and he didn't know how to react.
"But wasn't it dangerous in the past? And that rope may not be sturdy." Lin Fang still wanted to stop him, but the words he spoke were quite forced.
"So what's changed by staying here?" The frivolous person looked at Lin Fang with a scornful gaze.
Lin Fang was speechless this time, because he found that he was only afraid of the door and what was behind it, without discovering the sentence said by the madman.
Lin Fang lowered his head again, holding onto the armrests, but the wind blowing from outside the door was so real.
That arrogant man walked over, holding two ropes, observed them for a moment, and pulled hard, they were very sturdy, at least not easy to break. But he didn't make any further moves, just kept looking down on the door and the situation outside with disdain and arrogance.
Perhaps after a long time, perhaps very short. Lin Fang heard another person's voice.
"Unless you go first and we'll protect you?" The smiling man appeared beside Lin Fang, supporting his shoulder.
Lin Fang was first startled by physical contact and then frightened by what he heard.
"Why should I go first? I don't want to do something unknown." Lin Fang suddenly became very angry, feeling as if he was being sent to his death.
"Because you're afraid, and also cautious enough to do it. If it were someone else among us, do you think we would be okay?" The smiling person's smile at this moment gave Lin Fang the strength, but his words made Lin Fang feel stimulated again.
Lin Fang opened his mouth but didn't know what to say, because he felt that except for the trembling person who was afraid, others had no difficulty or danger at all, because they couldn't feel any tension.
"Besides, let you go first, we'll watch from behind, isn't there someone to take care of it? And that passageway can only allow one person to pass through at a time, two people won't fit." The smiling person seemed to be persuading Lin Fang at this moment.
Lin Fang looked at the strange door, a strong gust of wind blew in, accompanied by an ear-piercing alarm sound, and the unclear outside of the door clearly told Lin Fang that this place was not safe.
"Alright, I'll go. You guys help me pull those two ropes, so I can grab onto them and get across." Lin Fang said with his head down, because the alarm was too loud, he wasn't even sure if they could hear him clearly, he himself couldn't hear very well either.
"Alright, no problem." The smiling person heard it, probably because they were right next to me.
Next, Lin Fang saw the smiling person walk over and say a few words to the arrogant person. The arrogant person then looked at himself with a scornful gaze that seemed to have diminished slightly, but it was hard to tell. He leaned against the wall, staring at Lin Fang.
"Alright, are you ready?" The smiling person returned to Lin Fang's side and said, the smile on his face making Lin Fang less afraid.
Lin Fang used all his strength, took a few deep breaths, and let the air fill his body. His legs also gained some strength.
"I'm ready, remember to help me pull the rope tight." Lin Fang's eyes were no longer so fearful as he walked towards that strange door.
"Kid, hope you won't fall off." The reckless person said beside Lin Fang.
"I won't." Lin Fang said stubbornly to him, perhaps stirred up by his own unwillingness.
The slightly mad person didn't say anything else, just a corner of his mouth curled up. Lin Fang didn't know what this smile represented, but it shouldn't be something like good wishes.
The wind blowing from beside the door was even stronger. Lin Fang looked at the high-altitude scenery outside the passage and really didn't know how he had agreed to it.
"Later on, you hold one end of the rope and we'll pull it straight from behind to help you balance." The smiling man said from behind Lin Fang.
After finishing speaking, he and the lightly mad person each grabbed a rope and pulled him straight, in the passageway two ropes were pulled like railings, the texture was motionless.
Lin Fang took a deep breath, looked around at the two of them, grasped the rope with both hands and took the first step.
His right foot had just stepped out of the door, and there was nothing unusual. When half of his body was exposed, a huge pressure filled the front part of his body. The strong gusts of wind whizzing by made Lin Fang unable to hear any other sounds, and he couldn't even open his eyes.
He moved his left foot forward, just leaving the floor, and immediately began to lose balance. He couldn't move too fast. Lin Fang quickly put down his left foot and could only inch closer step by step. This passageway was only 2 or 3 steps away.
But Lin Fang had to inch forward with difficulty, strong winds, eyes that couldn't be opened, and could only look vaguely ahead. Fortunately, both hands were still grasping the rope, which didn't move at all, bringing Lin Fang a sense of security.
Lowering his head, the strong wind was slightly less intense, but the blowing wind made Lin Fang's breathing very difficult, unable to breathe forcefully, and could only breathe slowly.
If it weren't for the sound of the wind blowing by, this scene would look like it's in slow motion, 10 times slower.
Lin Fang slowly moved closer and closer until he finally reached the middle of the passageway.
For some reason, the aircraft shook violently, causing Lin Fang's entire body to sway back and forth.
"It's over, what's going on." Lin Fang suddenly felt like he was done for.
Fortunately, the swing passed quickly, and the two ropes remained still. Lin Fang wanted to see how the two people behind him pulled the rope straight, and such a swing could maintain the balance of the rope.
Just turned back to look at the past, but couldn't see anyone, two ropes were like what was seen at first, can't see the source.
This glance made Lin Fang feel a chill run down his spine, and he also discovered another problem. The wind, logically speaking, should be blowing towards his back as he walked backwards, not in front of him.
But the feeling transmitted from his body clearly told Lin Fang that the wind was blowing from outside towards himself, rather than from behind.
Lin Fang stood still in the middle of the passageway for an unknown amount of time, the ear-piercing alarm sounds and flashing warning lights from behind were no longer noticeable, while ahead was a scene that couldn't be seen clearly until he got closer.
Lin Fang was hesitant at this time, unsure whether to move forward or backward. The strong wind continued to blow, blowing against Lin Fang's clothes and making a rustling sound.
Finally, Lin slowly took a step forward, continuing to lower his head and move closer.
This time it was very peaceful and quiet, except for the wind that had been blowing all along, nothing came to affect Lin Fang's advancing footsteps, although it was slow, but he was just one step away from stepping into the front door.
And Lin Fang also saw further ahead a scene that was indeed like a cockpit.
Finally, Lin Fang took the last step out, first with his right hand grasping the door frame, then his left, until both hands were tightly gripping. As his right foot stepped onto the middle of the door, Lin Fang seemed to feel something. He turned his head back for a second time, and this time, it made Lin Fang's fear, which could no longer be suppressed, burst out.
Lin Fang thought that once he stepped through that door, everything would turn for the better, but the things before his eyes told him that it was all even more bewildering.
What Lin Fang saw in front of him was two rows of passengers sitting tightly, and the alarm sound, alarm lights, even the strong wind that had just blown past Lin Fang's ears, all disappeared. Even the strange corridor seemed to have never existed.
Lin Fang was stunned for a full minute before he thought of the two black ropes, which were gone. Originally, Lin Fang couldn't see where these two ropes came from, no matter which direction he looked from. And just like that eerie passageway, the two black ropes had vanished into thin air.
The flight attendant's voice could still be heard in her ear, reminding the passenger how to fasten his seatbelt.
Lin Fang stared blankly at the group of passengers behind him, and there was no difference from before the plane took off. The only difference, perhaps, was himself.
Lin Fang stared blankly at this group of passengers, also didn't know how long had passed, until he was asked a few questions.
"Excuse me, sir, excuse me, is there anything I can help you with?" A pretty flight attendant asked in front of Lin Fang, she just noticed that Lin Fang had been standing here for a long time and was busy earlier.
Lin Fang still looked stunned, perhaps he thought he was dreaming now.
The flight attendant saw Lin Fang still unresponsive and thought something was wrong, so she was about to go call the lead attendant over.
Lin Fang suddenly turned his head to look at this flight attendant.
"Which plane is this flying to?" Lin Fang's eyes still lacked luster, remaining hollow.
"This gentleman, this is a plane flying to Suzhou." The flight attendant looked at Lin Fang with a puzzled face, and someone actually didn't know where they were going and got on the plane.
"Excuse me, sir. Let me see your plane ticket." The flight attendant was still cautious and asked to see Lin Fang's ticket, thinking that he might be some kind of lunatic.
Lin Fang maintained a dull expression, took out the plane ticket and handed it to the flight attendant. The flight attendant checked three times, confirming that there was nothing unusual about the ticket, and returned it to Lin Fang.
"Where did I come from?" Lin Fang muttered to himself.
To be honest, the flight attendant was already frightened by Lin Fang's actions. Think about it, a person with dull eyes, muttering to himself there, I wonder where he came from, either mentally ill or suffering from amnesia.
"Sir, are you sure you're okay? Do you want me to call the medical staff?" The flight attendant looked at Lin Fang warily, preventing him from making any sudden movements. Isn't it said that people with mental illnesses have certain things they can't be asked? But duty-bound, she couldn't not ask.
"It's okay, thank you." Lin Fang finally seemed to have come back to his senses, and lifted his head to say to the flight attendant.
The flight attendant confirmed with Lin Fang for a few times that everything was fine, then pointed out his seat and left to attend to her duties.
Lin Fang looked at the plane ticket in his hand, perhaps if he had chosen to retreat earlier, the outcome would have been different, but it was unknown whether it was good or bad.
Every regret after a choice is just because one's vision isn't broad enough, it was before and still is afterwards.
