  Phenytoin

  Also known as: Primidone, Mysoline, Desoxyphenobarbital.

  Primarily used for grand mal seizures, it also has some efficacy against psychomotor seizures. This product is often used in conjunction with sodium phenytoin to achieve a synergistic effect. In the body, it is mainly converted into phenobarbital and primidone.

  Usage:

  May cause various deformities, chlorpromazine can produce retinal degeneration.

  Quinine, chloroquine and mefloquine can cause fetal malformations and other defects such as deafness, limb deficiencies and hydrocephalus.

  Hormone class:

  Estrogens such as ethinyl estradiol, progesterones like medroxyprogesterone acetate and testosterone. Oral contraceptives can cause fetal abnormalities, masculinize female fetuses, virilization, labial fusion, and hypospadias in male fetuses.

  Antibiotics:

  Drugs such as streptomycin and kanamycin. Tetracycline and oxytetracycline can cause fetal limb abnormalities, bulging fontanelle, congenital cataracts, and enamel hypoplasia in children when used in late pregnancy: Streptomycin and gentamicin can damage the eighth cranial nerve of the fetus, leading to congenital deafness, and can also impair renal function. Neomycin can cause abnormal skeletal development in the fetus, as well as clubfoot, congenital cataracts, intellectual disability, and pulmonary and renal artery stenosis.
