Chapter 5: A Swarm of Snakes Dancing Wildly

Volume 1 Jin Dynasty Ancient Tomb Chapter 5 Group of Snakes Dancing Frenziedly

I spat out a few mouthfuls, and just as I was starting to feel a bit more comfortable, what shocked me even more was that the moment my acidic vomit and this morning's food hit the ground, flies swarmed in immediately. Unable to bear it any longer, I spat out a few more mouthfuls.

People only have two choices, busy dying or busy living. I think I've got a third choice: busy waiting for death. At this moment, my heart is truly terrified. People are always full of curiosity and fear towards unknown things. I believe that whoever is in my situation would also be left with nothing but fear. In the midst of it all, I feel like these "front-and-back" crawling flies have turned everything I spit out, including myself, into their food.

"This is unbearable, it's really like a woman." Zhu Baozi's sharp voice came over again, and at this time he had already put on a good leather boot for Liu Ran, and took out several bottles of alcohol and threw them over. Liu Wei and Shi Tou and others caught them, and poured the alcohol on the fallen leaves.

I secretly wondered, are flies afraid of the smell of alcohol? But Shi Tou made another move that shocked me, he lit a lighter, and I trembled with fear, shouting "This is all dry leaves, you want to self-immolate!"

The stone didn't reason with me, and I threw the lighter down. In my heart, I thought: Forget it, being burned to death is still better than being food for flies and mosquitoes.

"You're an idiot, don't spout nonsense there." Zhu Pangzi scornfully jeered at me.

Whoosh, the fire surrounding us ignited, but the flames weren't very big. Most of it was just the surface alcohol on the leaves burning, probably because the leaves were too wet and not many caught fire. Due to the fire, the flies quickly moved in both directions. As time passed, I felt the fallen leaves under my feet decrease, which made the flies visible.

"Alright, let's go quickly, they'll be back soon." Seeing the fire dying down, Liu Wei hastily shouted and beckoned me to hurry. Unintentionally, I saw a hint of icy killing intent in Zhu Baozi's eyes as he looked at Liu Wei.

We ran wildly for over ten minutes before we finally stopped. I was panting heavily, my whole body felt weak and numb, and I really couldn't hold on any longer, just about to fall down. Shi Tou hurriedly supported my arm and said, "Don't sit down."

"Could there be leeches here too?" I shuddered at the thought, that disgusting thing, I never want to see it again in this lifetime.

The stone shook its head, "It shouldn't be possible, horseflies are a variant of water flies and usually don't exist in large numbers."

"Then let me sit for a while! I'm exhausted." After hearing Shi Tou's explanation, I felt at ease again.

The rock pulled me over, leaned against him and said, "Then lean on me and rest for a while!" Just now I was scared enough, and after running wildly for so long, my physical strength couldn't keep up. Leaning against the rock with my eyes closed, taking a short break, I thought to myself, it's still the soldiers who can withstand the hardships! If there's another time like this, I reckon I'll be done for.

"Ah," another miserable cry, I shook my body and pulled the stone arm to open my eyes, but didn't see the person who made the miserable cry, only saw Zhu Baozi and Liu Wei each holding an axe to chop a plant that looked like it had grown dozens of times larger than a sunflower.

  "That's a man-eating flower." The stone said.

They didn't stop until they had chopped for more than five minutes. The plant wasn't very hard, but it was extremely resilient and couldn't be cut off no matter what. The cut wound would quickly be covered again by the green sticky sap that flowed out.

"Didn't I tell you? Don't touch things around casually." Zhu Baozi turned back and scolded loudly, then walked slowly back with Liu Wei.

"Why didn't you save him?" I asked weakly.

"It's too late, it's been so long, the person is already dead." Shi Tou said with a frown.

Zhu Pangzi walked back, glaring at us with wide eyes and scolding, "Damn it, whoever is not careful in the future, don't expect me to waste my energy saving you." After finishing speaking, he slung his backpack over his shoulder and continued walking forward.

I cautiously followed their footsteps, my hand clutching the stone tightly as I stared nervously around me, afraid that at any moment I would also be eaten. My god, being eaten by flowers, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it even if you had beaten me to death.

After walking for a while, a faint smell of snakes wafted through the air. Liu Wei called out in a low voice, "Everyone be careful around you and watch out for snake bites."

This stretch of road is even more terrifying to walk on, and the occasional sound of wind blowing through fallen leaves can make a group of people's hair stand on end, keeping them tense for half a day.

Suddenly, I felt a drop of water on my face. My heart secretly felt bitter. It was sunny when we set out in the morning, how did it start raining at noon? After walking a few more steps, the raindrops fell irregularly, sometimes heavy and sometimes light. I couldn't help but feel curious, so I lifted my head to look through the gaps between the tree branches. To my surprise, the sky was still a brilliant blue. This made me even more puzzled - it can't be raining on a sunny day! As I looked closer, my heart seemed to jump out of my body, and my limbs began to tremble uncontrollably. If I hadn't been leaning against a rock, I would have fallen to the ground right there.

"What's wrong? Let's go!" Shi Tou looked at me and didn't see me move, so he gave me a push.

Gudong, I swallowed a big mouthful of saliva and opened my mouth to speak but couldn't say anything. I pointed at the branch with my finger instead. Shi Tou furrowed his brow and took one look, his face immediately turning ashen.

"What's wrong now?" Zhu Pangzi suddenly turned his head and impatiently shouted at me.

Shitou nodded slightly, Zhu Baozi rolled his eyes and stopped in his tracks, his face as ugly as possible. Liu Wei and the others saw Zhu Baozi's abnormal behavior and looked up one after another. A green snake with a palm-sized body was quietly lying on the branch, its scarlet tongue darting in and out. If it weren't for the tongue, it would look like a green leaf. The tongues of ordinary snakes are forked, but the tongues of these small green snakes were sharp and intact. The snake's tongue was very long, and the part that was sticking out was already as long as its body.

"Damn it, we've run into them again." Liu Wei muttered under his breath, looking tense and a little frightened.

"Huddle together immediately." Zhu Baozi hastily shouted, as the fourteen of us leaned in close, Zhu Baozi put down his backpack and took out four flamethrowers from inside, handing them to Shi Tou and the two Japanese men, while holding one himself. He faced upwards and whispered "Follow me, don't provoke this group of living ancestors." After finishing speaking, he quietly started moving forward with stealthy steps.

"Don't provoke any of the snakes, Linzi. If one snake attacks you, all the others will follow, and they'll burrow into your body like flies." Shi Tou warned me with some concern, his eyes fixed on the snake above my head.

"My god, the bugs in this place are so disgusting." Although I was hiding in the middle, I still felt my legs trembling with fear, and my walk wasn't steady anymore. I kept feeling like a snake had licked my face, and my back was cold.

Those little snakes stared at us with their shiny green bean-like eyes, just like monkeys in a zoo, and did not attack us. They just lay there quietly, staring at us as we moved. We walked cautiously for over ten minutes, feeling like it was an eternity, before the trees ahead of us were finally free of snakes' shadows, and the huge stone that had been pressing on my chest finally fell off.

Just as I was about to take a deep breath and relax, Liu Wei suddenly shouted, "Not good, the snake is going to attack."

My breath almost didn't come up, I gripped the machete in my hand, trying to calm down, but when I looked up and saw the small snakes on the tree moving towards us in a sheet, it was like a pack of wolves in a dream. All I could hear was the sound of my heart pounding wildly. With a clang, because my hands were shaking so hard, the machete in my hand fell to the ground, and I grasped my right hand with my left hand trying to pick it up several times but couldn't.

Zhu Pangzi walked over with a fire extinguisher, sneering and cursing, "This time he's finished." After finishing speaking, he handed the fire extinguisher in his hand to a dwarf and said, "You cover the back."

"I, I, Big Brother Liu..." The short man's face showed fear, looking at Liu Wei with a pleading gaze, his eyes filled with begging. Liu Wei's mouth twitched, his expression changed, and he pulled Liu Ran and the man beside him over, saying "You two will cover our backs."

"They're my people." Zhu Baozi was about to get angry.

"Cut the crap, let's go." A Japanese man spoke up, and the calculation between the two came to a temporary end. I pulled Shi Tou's hand and shouted, "Let's run too!"

The stone pushed me and said, "You go first, I'll catch up right away."

At this time, I'll stay behind and Shi Tou will definitely take care of me. All I can do is not hold him back, as for others, I won't be able to care about how they follow up either, so I'll just sprint away.
