Mr. Ling Huan (Six)
The night was deep, with only a few scattered stars in the sky. Under the cover of darkness, the R army's arsenal was brightly lit, illuminating everything within a 10-meter radius with crystal clarity. Row after row of soldiers clad in military uniforms patrolled with guns at the ready.
Two figures like wisps of smoke slipped past the patrolling soldiers, one of them making a face at a soldier walking in front, but the soldier seemed not to have seen it and walked straight past.
Those two figures ignored the heavy iron gate and walked straight in.
Unlike the bright lights outside, the arsenal was very dark. The light that came in through the window only saw a row of huge boxes neatly stacked inside the arsenal, filled with countless military weapons.
Those two figures wore blue long gowns and horse jackets, their faces pale with a hint of greenish white, without any vitality.
They were none other than Da Bao and Luo Ke, who had been driven out by Ming Shu.
Luò Kě opened the lids of those boxes, found what they needed, and then turned to Dà Bǎo who was standing aside: "Dà Bǎo, hurry up, you take these weapons out, I'll come after I blow up the arsenal."
Da Bao smiled foolishly, shouldered the boxes pointed out by Luo Ke, and with a slight flicker of his body, he disappeared into the ground along with the boxes.
This is the latest skill that Da Bao has cultivated, Earth Escape Technique. However, he can only bring a limited amount of things with him, and it can only be used once a day. Therefore, most of the ammunition in this arsenal cannot be taken out.
Luó Kě estimated the time, Dà Bǎo should have brought these things to meet with the team members, she poured all the gasoline found in the arsenal onto those military supplies, then took out a box of matches from her body, lit the match and threw it in.
Flames shot up into the sky, and a deafening explosion shook the night air. Luo Ke emerged from the armory with an expressionless face, standing beside the inferno as she coldly watched the soldiers who failed to escape being consumed by the flames.
The orange-red flames were imprinted on her eyes, revealing an inexplicable strangeness. Da Bao had returned at some point and silently wrapped Luo Ke into his arms.
"Xiao Bao, don't be afraid, Da Bao is here."
The silly Da Bao only knew how to say this one comforting phrase, Luo Ke's frozen heart slowly melted, she cracked a smile, and gazing at the armory engulfed in flames, softly said.
"Big treasure, I'm not afraid."
After being driven away by Ming Shu, the two of them wandered for a long time. The two of them had also survived for nearly a hundred years as old ghosts, and although they couldn't cope with those fierce ghosts and vengeful spirits, it was enough to protect themselves.
In addition to their never killing, there is no bloody smell on their bodies. Those Taoist priests with some skills will not make things difficult for them. As for those Taoist priests who are not up to par, even if they want to make things difficult for them, it's hard.
And so, after wandering around the vast land for several years, war broke out.
It was an inhumanly cruel war. The cold words written on the pages of history books are far from being as shocking as experiencing it firsthand.
The earth is soaked with blood, and the wailing voices of innocent civilians are everywhere. The invaders raise their butcher knives and chop at those helpless and defenseless compatriots.
The country is facing a life-and-death moment, and even as ghosts, they cannot bear to see those innocent civilians suffer from family destruction.
At first, Luo Ke and Da Bao only helped the civilians escape from the invaders' pursuit and massacre. However, their abilities were ultimately limited, and they could only help a few people. Many more civilians were left to struggle in despair.
Luò Kě was unwilling to take lives, even those of invaders. She couldn't bring herself to do it, fearing heavenly punishment and the fate of a ghost tainted with human blood, which would be doomed to wander forever, never able to transcend.
She knew her own weakness, so she desperately helped those civilians escape.
But Luo Ke saw with his own eyes an invader inserting a bayonet into the swollen belly of a pregnant woman, cutting out a fully formed fetus, the woman's eyes wide open, blood gushing out of her body like a fountain, staining the mud beneath her red.
When she died, her eyes were fixed on her rushing over, as if questioning her why she didn't protect her child.
At that moment, Luo Ke, who had been suppressing his emotions for a long time, finally burst out completely.
That was her first time killing a human being, different from the zombies she had killed before, that was a living and breathing person.
She slaughtered the invader with a cruel hand, contrary to what she thought, the invader's blood was also red, and the splashing stained her eyes. At that moment, Luo Ke seemed like a demon from hell, coldly looking down on those invaders.
The aftermath of that massacre was a series of endless nightmares.
Luò Kě never knew that ghosts also have dreams.
In the dream, the invader she had brutally killed was dragging his muddy body towards her, slowly crawling. Behind him was a sea of blood that covered the sky, and in the sea of blood, countless faces were churning.
Those faces with empty eyes kept asking her over and over again why she had to kill him.
When she was haunted by nightmares, Da Bao held her and repeatedly told her in her ear that it wasn't her fault, she had done the right thing.
It was Da Bao's voice that pulled her out of her nightmare and made her face reality.
Once shaken beliefs become unshakeable.
Killing an invader would allow countless compatriots to live on, and even if she were to be condemned by heaven for the slaughter, she would have no regrets.
Luò Kě didn't want Dà Bǎo to get stained with blood, but he was unwilling to leave.
Dà bǎo said: "Xiǎo bǎo, no matter what you do, Xiǎo bǎo will always be with you."
Luò Kě was deeply moved, but the more she felt this way, the more she couldn't let him accompany her to ruin herself. One person losing their soul was enough; she couldn't drag innocent Dà Bǎo down with her.
But the things that Dabao has made up his mind about will not change no matter what, and even when Lu Ke beats him or scolds him, Dabao still silently follows behind her. The last time, when Lu Ke drove him away again, Dabao quietly left.
Watching her leave, Luo Ke let out a sigh of relief, but more so, a sense of powerlessness rose from the bottom of his heart. Now that Da Bao had also left, she could do her own things without any worries or burdens.
Who would have thought that one day later, Da Bao came back again. The difference was that his originally pure soul had been stained with blood.
Dabao looked at her, grinning foolishly: "Xiaobao, now I'm just like you, you won't drive me away again, will you?"
Lu Ke's eyes stung, a thousand words stuck in her throat, and all she could manage to say was: "You idiot."
