Chapter 24: Mom (6)

  Mom (six)

Lily was young after all, and being tightly hugged by a strange man suddenly scared her into loud wailing, shouting "Mom" nonstop.

Victoria couldn't care less about Lily's tears at this moment, she stared blankly at the familiar face in front of her, and those memories hidden deep in her mind were instantly awakened.

  "Uncle Lucas."

Lily, who had been crying uncontrollably, was taken to one side by the policewoman. It was unclear what method she used, but Lily soon stopped crying and buried her face in the policewoman's chest, only looking at the stranger squatting there talking to her sister with a pair of timid eyes.

Her mother just told her that he was her uncle and she would live with him from now on. She didn't know what "uncle" meant, but she didn't want to be separated from her mother.

Mom said she would accompany her until she didn't need to, how could she not need mom? She will always be with mom.

Lucas never thought he would see his two nieces again, three years after his brother shot and killed the two partners of his company as well as his wife before disappearing with the two kids.

They searched for a long time, but in the end they only found their brother's crashed car. The three of them seemed to have vanished into thin air, leaving no trace. Lucas had been searching for two years and was now hopeless. His brother and those two children were probably dead.

He received a call from the police department while he was at work, saying that his two nieces, Victoria and Lily, had been found.

Lucas hung up the phone and rushed out of the company, speeding all the way, running through countless red lights. His mind was in a mess, wanting to believe yet not daring to believe. He had almost confirmed that the two children were dead, but now he heard that they were still alive.

God, has your glory finally shone upon me again?

He pulled out his driver's license and made it clear that he was Lucas Sandrich, Jeff Sandrich's brother, the uncle of two kids.

The police handed over the two children to Lucas after repeated confirmation.

Lucas's home is very small, a two-bedroom house packed to the brim, looking somewhat cluttered and disorganized.

Judging from the furnishings in his room, he didn't live a wealthy life. In recent years, he had spent almost all of his money searching for his missing brother and niece, and this month, if he couldn't find them, he would have to give up completely.

He piled all the dirty clothes on the sofa into the washing machine. Lucas settled the two children on the sofa and ran to the kitchen to prepare food for them.

In an unfamiliar environment, two children were somewhat nervous. Lily's small fist was clenched tightly, and she asked in a low voice: "Mom, are you there?"

Victoria suddenly turned her head, her eyes flashing slightly, she opened her mouth to say something, but when she saw the black shadow behind Lily, she closed her mouth and lowered her head, sitting there in silence.

Luoke, who had been hiding and following them, appeared in front of Lily, squatting down and gently stroking her chubby little face.

"Lily, don't be afraid, Mom is here."

Lily understood the meaning in Luo Ke's eyes, slowly relaxed her body, but a pair of small hands still tightly grasped Luo Ke's hem and refused to let go.

Lucas soon came out of the kitchen with two plates of spaghetti, saw the two children sitting there obediently, and a look of heartache appeared in Lucas' eyes. He put the steaming hot noodles in front of the two children and said softly: "Eat, it's delicious."

The two children looked at Lucas timidly, but showed no signs of making a move.

The thing in front of them was something they had never seen before, but it smelled so good, as if it were delicious. Could they really eat it?

Lucas wore a gentle smile on his face, releasing his kindness, and softly cooed to them over and over again.

It was Victoria who made the first move. She picked up her fork, took a bite, and after confirming it was edible, fed Lily.

Lucas saw this and wanted to take over feeding Lily, but Victoria shook her head at him, saying: "Uncle, you feed, Lily won't eat."

Lucas could only give up. After all, Lily was still young and to her, he was completely a stranger. Children's defenses against strangers are the strongest.

Fortunately, they will live together later, and Lily will also slowly accept him.

In the evening, when Annabelle returned home, she saw her husband busy in the kitchen and two pretty little girls playing with colorful building blocks at the dinner table.

As soon as someone came in, Lily immediately hid behind Victoria. Lucas heard the door and walked out of the kitchen, seemingly unaware of Anna's displeasure, smiling and introducing: "Anna, this is Victoria and Lily, my nieces, I found them."

"Aren't they dead......" Anna knew she had misspoken as soon as the words left her mouth, and quickly changed the subject: "How did you find them?"

"That's a long story, we'll talk about it later, you sit down and chat with them for now, the food will be ready soon."

Lucas finished speaking and went into the kitchen, continuing to be busy.

Anna barely suppressed the annoyance in her heart, irritably glancing at the two children. She had never liked kids, especially these two who suddenly appeared and were about to disrupt their lives. She disliked them even more, tossing her bag onto the sofa as she turned around and went back inside.

"Victoria, I don't like staying here, shall we go find mom?"

"Lily, we have to stay here from now on, this place is our home."

That night, Lucas and Anna said something, she reluctantly accepted the existence of the children.

"Lucas, you want to leave them here but I won't give up my job to bring the kids back, that's my bottom line."

"Alright, Anna, dear, I agree, just hope you'll be nicer to them next time, they're two poor kids."

  "I'll try my best."

With her glasses on, Victoria's world became clear again. Once, Rocco accidentally appeared in front of her, and at that moment she clearly felt the fear emanating from her whole body.

From then on, whenever Victoria knew she was coming, she would take off her glasses. Luo Ke knew that she was afraid of her, and when she couldn't see clearly, Victoria had already vaguely sensed her difference. Now, having seen her face clearly, Victoria is probably even more afraid.

When Rocco found out that Victoria was intentionally or unintentionally blocking Lily and her close friends, he slowly stopped appearing in front of them.

The children need a normal life, she is a ghostly figure, so it's better not to linger too much in their world.

The next story is not a horror movie in the true sense, but I think what happens in the film is more terrifying than ghosts - Korean films "Sunny" and "The Crucible".
