Chapter 10: The Debate on Female Virtues

Volume 1: Gathering Winds of Splendor Chapter 10: Dispute Over the Female Precepts

With a worried look on his face, he stared at the female prisoner in front of him, two fingers holding a brush in an awkward posture, struggling to write on the poor-quality yellow paper.

Writing is one thing, but the content of this woman's scolding makes me so angry that I feel like cursing loudly.

"If a woman is not virtuous, she has nothing to serve her husband with; if a woman does not serve her husband, the principles of righteousness will collapse. In order to maintain the principles of righteousness from collapsing, it is necessary for women to clearly understand the principles of righteousness."

"A man values strength and a woman values weakness; regardless of right or wrong, a woman should unconditionally obey her husband."

At this point, "slap" sound, An Xin heavily slammed the brush in his hand on the table, and the ink splattered all over the table.

This is not a book, it's simply a brainwashing cult, having read too many books like "Female Chastity", what if one day I really become that kind of woman in ancient feudal society, there's nowhere to cry.

"Mother, mother." Anxin shouted loudly with her mouth open wide.

"What's wrong." Hearing An Xin's somewhat urgent call, An Su thought there was something urgent and rushed over in a flurry.

Reluctantly getting up, with his back to An Su Su, he puffed out his chest, looking gloomy and mumbling, "Mother, you'd better beat me, I really can't write this stuff." If he continued writing, he feared that even his own ideology would be completely subverted.

"What's wrong with you, little ancestor? How did this 'Admonitions for Women' offend you again?" Ansu asked with a gentle smile.

With a relieved expression, seeing no signs of anger from her mother, An Su's eyes sparkled as she stood up straight and ran to her mother's side, tugging on her sleeve and saying in a spoiled tone, "Mother, look at this book. It's all about the necessary virtues and behavior for women, but once a man and woman are married, they should be one entity. If there's a 'Female Precepts', shouldn't there be a 'Male Precepts' too? But the book says that women should take their husbands as heaven, I think it's unreasonable."

"Oh" An Su heard An Xin's words and suddenly became interested, "Then tell me what's unreasonable about it."

Anxin bit her lip, thought for a moment, and said in a crisp voice, "Between husband and wife, they should support each other, go through thick and thin together, respect each other equally. Why do men have to be superior, while women are like servants waiting for their husbands' occasional favor? When they're happy, they'll pamper you like a little dog, but when they find someone new, they'll abandon you to the farthest reaches of the sky. This is so unfair."

An Su's eyebrows rose slightly, her words laced with a hint of resignation that was hard to detect. "But this is an unchanging principle, a woman should follow the four virtues and be a virtuous wife."

"Mother, are you also so stubborn? Ah Xin pouted and felt a faint sense of disappointment in her heart. She continued with a hint of sarcasm, "Having to watch one's own husband dote on other women every day, and still having to put on an air of 'this is how it should be' - is this what marriage is about? If so, Ah Xin would rather remain alone for the rest of her life." Her words were forceful and resounding.

An Xin's words fell, and An Su was taken aback, looking at her with a face full of disdain and contempt. An Su's face had a hint of distraction, since ancient times, mothers and daughters have shared the same heart, so would An Xin follow her in having such rebellious and unorthodox thoughts?

"Anxin said it's right, Mother also hopes that you will find a man who loves you wholeheartedly in the future." Ansu only slightly nodded, and instantly returned to her usual cheerful demeanor, smiling lightly as she spoke.

"Ah?" An Xin was taken aback, thinking that her mother would scold her severely for saying such things. Unexpectedly, today's luck was so good that she passed the test so easily. Indeed, it was her open-minded mother, who even as an ancient woman, had thoughts that could keep up with 21st-century women's trends.

"Mother, you are truly great! If anyone had the good fortune to marry you, their ancestral tomb would be filled with prosperity and good fortune!" Anxin exclaimed, jumping up and down excitedly with a joyful smile.

"This idea of yours, just tell your mother about it and that's all, if you go around talking nonsense outside, no one will dare to want you." An SuSu scratched the tip of her nose and spoke with a hint of bitterness.

"It's better if no one wants me, then we can be together for a lifetime." she said with a peaceful and carefree tone.

"Alright, then don't write anymore, go out and have some fun, remember to come back early for dinner." An Su said with a smile.

"Understood." An Xin heard the words and was overjoyed, he couldn't help but give a military salute with some pride, then ran out in big strides.

Sighing softly, the bitterness at the corner of her mouth gradually dissipated, and she muttered to herself, "Even a child can understand that I'm at peace. Why didn't you understand my heart back then?"

The faint bitterness at the corner of her mother's mouth, she couldn't help but notice as she walked with a pause in her step. Her worried eyes turned back to look at her mother who was lost in thought alone. She couldn't say anything because in her mother's heart, she was still a little kid and wouldn't understand the pain in her heart. Nor did she know what to do, for she knew nothing about her life before the age of five. What could she do to make her mother happy?

Close your eyes and take a deep breath of the warm air, with a hint of worry between your eyebrows that lingers for a long time, hoping that time can heal the wounds of my mother.

She took one last deep look at An Su Su, then turned her head back and walked out the door with a heavy heart, knowing that her mother didn't want her to see her in this state.
