Act 1 Chapter 34
"Idiot, hide quickly!!!" I swapped the magazine with one hand and kicked the mountain bear to the ground with one foot. His body had just fallen when a bullet grazed his helmet and added another bullet hole to the wall behind us.
"Brother! What are you doing?" The mountain bear that was kicked to the ground roared in my ear in confusion.
He didn't respond to the shouting, but instead calmly pulled the trigger, causing one guy's blood to splatter onto the wall behind him. He carefully observed through the scope, confirming no one else was showing their head before putting down the gun and turning around to look at the mountain bear.
I looked at him with a cold gaze, he started to glare back at me with angry eyes, but after a while, he turned his head away in shame, not daring to meet my gaze again. Without saying a word, he turned his head and continued to observe the outside through the sniper scope, until the person behind him couldn't help but start asking me questions.
"What's wrong with me? Why are you looking at me like that?" A voice came from behind, without turning back, continued to monitor the front.
"Do you know where you went wrong?" The cold voice came out of my mouth, and for the first time I spoke to Shanyin in such a tone. Even without turning back, I knew he was now full of puzzlement.
"I don't know? Tell me, brother, what's wrong with me, I can change." This guy thought for a long time and finally realized he didn't know where he went wrong, so he could only whisper in my ear and ask this question.
"Do you know what the first thing we heard was when we first went to the battlefield? I know, we're not in the same unit, but you must have also heard the same words as me." As soon as the question came out, I knew that Shan Xiong would definitely use "we're not in the same unit" to refute me, so I directly said one sentence, making him start to wonder.
"Ahah! Look at that!! You really are careless, aren't you? Alright, let's use this as the price for your carelessness~" The mountain bear, without even adjusting his position, continued to search ahead. Finally, I spotted a guy who had accidentally exposed his shoe tip from behind the wall. As I muttered to myself, I slowly aligned the sniper scope's crosshairs with the approximate position of his body behind the wall. "Next time, remember not to hide behind such thin walls." Along with the sound of the gunshot, I watched with satisfaction as blood splattered outwards, and then muttered a warning to this newly-struck unlucky devil.
"Go on and say it! Stop muttering to yourself over there." The mountain bear behind him finally couldn't hold back.
"Better protect yourself, so you can better hurt the enemy. Haven't you heard that?" I continued to look for my prey, without turning back, and lightly spoke out the answer to his question.
"But what does this have to do with you kicking me down?" This guy is still puzzled behind me.
"You didn't even bother to hide yourself, if I hadn't kicked you down, now it would be me crying over your corpse!!" Still not turning his head, he loudly questioned the mountain bear behind him.
"But didn't they miss me?" This guy just won't learn his lesson.
Throw the gun in his hand, turn over and pounce on him, ride on his body, grasp his collar with both hands tightly, "You idiot!! Do you know how worried I am about you? Do you know how sad I would be if you, the only person I care about in this world, left? Are you waiting for something to happen before you regret it?" His voice grew louder and louder as he spoke, until tears fell uncontrollably from his eyes and dripped onto his face.
The bear, who was getting angrier and angrier at my words, had already prepared to push me aside, but when he saw the tears in my eyes and felt them fall on his face, he stopped moving. Instead, he gently wiped away the tears on my face, and a low voice whispered in my ear, "Sorry, sorry I didn't mean to, can you forgive me? I see that you're hurt again, why do I always have to protect you? It was like this before, and it's still like this now. Why? I'm angry at my own incompetence, for not being able to protect you well enough. I'm angry! I'm angry at how incompetent I am!!" The bear also let out a loud roar beneath me, but this time it wasn't because of my mistake, but because he was angry at his own lack of ability.
"Fool, how can I blame you? You're the only one I care about now. If you leave, what will I do?" The bear's hands were very rough and he didn't know how to be gentle, so when he helped me wipe away my tears, it scratched my face painfully. But I still gave him a smile on my face.
"Brother, why do you feel like a woman?" The recovered Mountain Bear found me sitting on his chest, my hair had fallen onto his face because I lowered my head. As a result, he made an "I can't take it from you" expression and cracked this joke.
"Ah!!!!!" Upon hearing the mountain bear's words, I realized that my expression and actions were indeed ambiguous. I directly punched him in the chest, hitting him while he was laughing loudly. He gasped for breath, then started coughing violently. However, this guy, even in the midst of violent coughing, still hadn't forgotten to laugh. Now, I wanted to punch the arrogant smile off his face with one fist.
"Die, you bastard!!" Unable to hold himself back any longer, he finally made the declaration out loud at the same time as kicking him into a corner of the wall, letting him laugh to death over there.
"Don't smile, don't smile, lie down there and let me see your wound." As I turned my back to continue on high alert, the mountain bear saw that the wound on my back, which had gradually stopped bleeding earlier, began to slowly bleed again due to the intense exercise.
"Okay, okay! Stop pulling my clothes!!" I replied while trying to stop him from undressing me and applying medicine.
"Isn't there still one more in your backpack?" The mountain bear stopped his action and asked this question with a puzzled tone.
"If you want to tear, you have to wait for me to take off my tactical vest first, or where will I put the bullets?" While talking, he sat up and endured the pain on his back, forcing himself to take off the vest, then gestured for him to tear open his clothes.
Ouch! With the intense pain, the mountain bear has already torn open my clothes, because they were stuck to my flesh. He forcibly tore them off, it hurts so much!
"Hold on, it'll be alright soon." The mountain bear saw the wound on my back and knew I must be in a lot of pain as more blood flowed out due to his movements, so he quickly comforted me with a gentle voice by my ear.
"You say, the war has been going on for so long, when will it end?" Regardless of the pain coming from behind me, I knew he was helping me clean my wound, and casually asked this question out of his mouth.
"I don't know, I really don't know" The mountain bear paused for a moment because of my words, and then continued to move again. I knew that in his heart, he was also thinking about when the war would end.
Continuing to observe the outside from the sniper scope, at this time, my heart is discovering - I have long been accustomed to observing the world from the sniper scope. "You say, if we can survive until the end of the war, what will we do? I've already forgotten how to live a normal life!!" This question, I know, sometimes Mountain Bear's heart is also thinking about it.
"You'll probably go be a sniper instructor, I...I don't know, probably just go back home and farm." Shan Xiong's words whispered softly in my ear, making me inexplicably feel a pang of sadness. 'Have we all already forgotten what normal life is like?'
"Why?" she asked Xiong Xiong softly.
"You have skills, but I, apart from being physically strong, probably don't have any abilities. When the time comes, I'll definitely be discharged and then go back to my hometown to farm, when you're free, come visit me and I'll treat you to a drink."
"My family used to have an orchard, but now, nothing is left." Upon hearing the mountain bear's words, I thought of my hometown, which is now a wasteland.
"My home is gone too" the mountain bear slowly said, and as he spoke, I felt something fall onto my wound on my back, it stung so much that I knew they were his tears.
"You said, if one day we could reach the other side of the sea, would you destroy their hometown?"
"No, I know, no sense of home" This honest old fellow who always thinks for others.
"How long have we been here together?"
"Look at the sun, it's almost half a day. Bear with it for a bit." Along with Yama Kuma's words, there was a flowing sensation on his back, followed by a sharp pain that pierced through to his heart.
"What the...?! What is this thing?!" I cursed out loud, my whole body trembling in pain, and then asked him that question.
"This is the last of the wine I brought from my hometown." The mountain bear's low and mournful voice came from inside, filled with reluctance and nostalgia.
"Don't pour it all out, leave some!" The mountain bear heard my words and stopped the action of pouring more wine from his hand onto my back.
"What's wrong? Does it hurt?"
"Bring it over!!" Along with my voice, the mountain bear had already handed the wine jug to my mouth.
Reach out, tilt your head back, and drink half of it. The spicy liquor flows through my throat to the bottom of my heart, followed by a warm feeling rising from my stomach. "Good wine!! Come on, finish it!" As I exclaimed, I handed the wine jug behind me, and as he took it over, I also asked him to drink the rest in one gulp.
"You've drunk all the wine, such good wine, without even giving me a taste, you'll spill it on your body, and your wine will cry." Hearing the sound of the mountain bear drinking the wine behind him, he began to explain the reason.
"Haha~~~ you guy! Wait for me to apply the hemostatic powder." The mountain bear laughed loudly as he finished treating my wound, then had me sit up and started bandaging me.
"You said, didn't they give up on us two already? It's only 10 kilometers, now it's been more than half a day, enough to run back and forth several times!" I asked Mountain Bear while putting on the clothes from my backpack.
"Could it be that they didn't go back?" Shan Xiong was searching for the last possibility.
"Got it... those few guys, there's no enemy intercepting from behind at all, didn't you notice? Outside, at least three more squads have been added, and the enemies nearby have all been attracted by us." I slowly explained, while also seeing Mountain Bear's eyebrows furrow.
"By the way, why didn't they send a sniper?" This guy is changing the subject.
"That group of idiots, the most powerful ones have all been taken care of by me. What's the point of coming to others if not to send them to their deaths?" I said with a big mouth, but my heart was racing. "It's been almost an hour since they last attacked, what are they doing?"
"Haha ~ You haven't finished speaking, and a loud noise interrupted you. After the dust settled, we found that the building where we were hiding was already half gone. At this time, I, who was on high alert, saw a tank slowly coming out from the street corner. 'Damn it, they're waiting for tanks'"
Time seems to have slowed down, the bear's roar is gone, and in my line of sight, a tank appears, slowly turning its turret, and what I see is the dark muzzle pointing towards me and the bear.
