Chapter Thirty-Three
Foreword: This chapter is also a chance for me to explain some misconceptions about sniper rifle bullets, especially those described in some books where adding a ten-point wound to the bullet head makes it an all-purpose bullet. (I'm also satisfying my own vanity a bit here, haha.) I was hurt pretty badly that day. Recently, I haven't had time to correct typos, so please be patient when reading and point out any mistakes in the comments section. Thank you! The first person to speak up will receive a reward from me~ As for those who point out the same mistake later, sorry, no reward (who told you to type slowly?)
"Come on... don't hide... show your body obediently, yeah... just like that..." A murmuring voice slowly came out of his mouth, and the person he was talking to was the guy in the sniper scope. Thud! Along with the recoil transmitted from his shoulder, that guy had already flown backward, "Good boy, it's just going to hurt a bit, I didn't lie to you, did I?" He comforted the poor devil while firing the shot.
As the 16th guy who tried to get close was sent back home by me with a single shot, the enemy hid again and gave me and the mountain bear a chance to catch our breath.
"Take a rest, I'll take over the watch." Upon hearing the mountain bear's voice, he himself was indeed exhausted to death. He casually tossed the binoculars in his backpack to him and directly sat down on the ground, leaning against the wall behind him, breathing heavily with his mouth open wide. The mixed smells of various odors made people want to vomit just by smelling the air.
"Be careful, there may be snipers coming over soon." He whispered to Shan Xiong, then began to check the remaining equipment on his body.
Put the tactical vest on, take out everything one by one and lay them on the ground in front of you. 'There are 19 sniper rounds, including 10 armor-piercing rounds, 5 armor-piercing incendiary rounds, and the last clip...' In my heart, I silently count the number of bullets on me as my hands move, counting to the last clip without putting it on the ground, but instead holding it in my hand, gently pulling out all the bullets from the clip. I take out a handkerchief from my body and carefully wipe it clean, just like I'm caring for something I cherish the most.
"Are you sick?" The mountain bear saw me and treated the bullets in my hand like a lover, letting out a weak sigh.
"Ah!! What?" She subconsciously let out an exclamation, and immediately stopped the wiping motion in her hand. She looked up at Yama Kuma with a puzzled gaze, saying words that were equally filled with puzzlement. "What do you mean? I don't understand."
"I'm asking if you're sick or something? You're sweating like crazy!" The mountain bear saw that I didn't understand what he meant, so he explained it to me again, then raised his binoculars once more and began observing the outside situation.
Gently lift the bullet to a position parallel to your eyes, looking at the projectile head in the sunlight, emitting a faint flash of light. "Shan Xiong, don't you know? Every sniper has a few bullets he carefully crafted himself, so that in special situations, he can have absolute confidence in hitting the enemy. Haven't you heard people say that?" The eyes still stare at the projectile head with a faint reflection, confirming every arc and angle without any deviation. Then, gently press it into the cartridge, pick up another one, carefully wipe it clean, and lift it to your eyes again, confirming that there is no error in the processing of the projectile head by yourself.
"Refined? What does that mean? Are you guys going to make your own bullets?" The mountain bear heard the two words "refined" in my speech, and he who was particularly interested in this asked a question that could be considered outsider.
"Dummy, there are many ways to refine it, which one do you want to hear?" Deciding to give the mountain bear a good lesson, I started asking him what kind of method he wanted to know.
"I don't know any of them, just say it all!" This guy is not ordinary lazy, hearing my words, without thinking, he threw the answer over.
*Sigh*... He resignedly let out a breath, then continued to load the confirmed bullets into the magazine. Picking up another one, he began to answer his question, "The purpose of precision-made bullets is to minimize possible errors and special situations, or for specific purposes. Let me tell you about several methods and their intended goals." He said this as he loaded another confirmed bullet into the magazine, picking up the last one, confirming it, and starting to lecture Mountain Bear, "Firstly, also the most common method, is to use a die to create a decagonal wound on the bullet head. The goal is that when hitting the target, the bullet head will easily break apart due to kinetic energy and the decagonal shape, creating a much larger killing effect compared to regular bullets. However, this only applies to lead-core ordinary bullets, and personally, I think this method is the most idiotic..."
"Why? Why only lead core bullets? Can't steel core armor-piercing bullets be used? How can this be the stupidest method?" The mountain bear directly cut off my words, starting to ask his questions.
I shot him a "wasn't I just about to explain?" look, blaming him for interrupting me. Seeing his embarrassed heh-heh smile, I resigned myself to continuing, "Firstly, why is it only suitable for ordinary lead bullets? This method is only suitable for unprotected targets. The outer covering of steel-core bullets is designed to hit armored targets, using the outer covering to first make contact, then deform and accumulate energy. When the kinetic energy accumulates to a certain degree, the steel core inside will penetrate the outer covering and directly pierce the armor. If there's a deceleration after firing, the outer covering will easily shatter, but the steel core won't have accumulated enough kinetic energy and will only scratch the surface of the armor. Moreover, with a decelerator on the bullet head, it's fine at close range, but if you're far away, it's easy to deviate from the trajectory and hard to hit the target. Do you understand what I mean?" After speaking a long passage that he didn't quite comprehend, I tilted my head in his direction, quietly waiting for his response.
"It's roughly that, the general idea is that the things inside need to be accumulated first, and then they can penetrate armor. If not enough is accumulated, it won't work. That's probably what I meant?" The mountain bear condensed my words in confusion, and upon hearing them, I felt a wave of dizziness. "Good grief, he understands me! Why did I have to say such a long passage?!" My self-esteem thoroughly wounded, I let out a helpless cry in my heart.
"Absolutely right......" I had nothing to say, could only utter these two words, then saw the mountain bear's face filled with an arrogant smile, giving me a strong urge to punch him flying.
"What else?" Heaven!! This guy still wants to know more.
"There are many other ways, but this is the unspoken secret of every sniper. What I'm saying is what everyone knows." With my self-esteem thoroughly wounded, that's all I can say.
"Alright, go ahead!"
"Ah...... you won't understand even if I explain it to you. But they all have one thing in common, which is that they're only suitable for use in certain special situations, or they increase the probability of hitting, otherwise they're so powerful that they're scary, but they cause a lot of damage to the gun. The last possibility is just to boost confidence. He casually found a long passage to bluff him, and seeing his face full of distrust, he couldn't help but lament 'This guy, how did he become so smart all of a sudden!!'"
"Is that all you're going to do, just boost your confidence?" This time, it was my dignity that was ruthlessly crushed by the iron hammer of Mount Bear...
Give him an "I want to kill you now" angry stare, and start explaining my modification method. "Mine is to further grind the bullet head to make it more precise, which can guarantee the maximum extent of trajectory stability. Also, I increased the propellant by 30%, so the fired bullet has greater power, longer range, and can extend the direct shooting distance, that is, extend the range without adjusting the sight. However, this also has its drawbacks, want to know?" The last question directly hooked out Shanyin's curiosity, "Don't believe you won't ask me."
"Cut... I'm not interested in knowing." '......I want to kill someone!'
"Whatever, I'll tell you. Increasing the propellant will also increase the recoil, and it will put more stress on the rifling, firing pin, and other components in the barrel, which means it will shorten the lifespan of the gun." I was tricked by Shan Xiong's words, and I explained to him with a bad tone, only to realize that I had been completely fooled by him.
"I just counted, there should be 5 bullets in your clip, how come I only see you loading 4?" By the time Mountain Bear finished speaking, I had already reinserted all the clips back into my body and started checking other items.
"One heavy fragmentation grenade, one white phosphorus incendiary bomb, two smoke bombs......" After checking the grenades on my body, I looked up at him with a "are you stupid?!" gaze. Seeing his embarrassed expression, I felt some of my self-esteem return. "Yesterday that guy, I gave him one as a sign of respect."
"You perverts, show some respect to your opponent and have a good drink with him. Why do you have to go and smash his head off? When I got there, the guy's head was flying everywhere above his neck." Yama Kuma's voice was filled with disgust as he spoke, and he even made a disgusted face at me.
"You damn bastard....... Be careful!!!!!!" I laughed and scolded the mountain bear, when suddenly I saw a black thing flying in from the window next to me. With a loud shout, I immediately pounced on him and knocked him to the ground, covering his body tightly with mine... Boom!!!
Hearing an explosion in my ears, followed by the feeling of something scratching my back, many times. 'The empty bombing mode of a fragmentation grenade.' I felt this and immediately gave myself an explanation.
"Brother, how are you? Let me take a look." The mountain bear that I had pinned down pushed me away and immediately heard my low groan, hurriedly turned me over to check my back.
"Damn, it hurts to know? No need to look, just a bunch of abrasions, fortunately, they are relatively far away, or I would have been a sieve......" The self being pressed to the ground by him, while complaining about him, was also assessing my wounds. "Although they are all abrasions, but they can easily become infected."
"You damn thing, you're in big trouble! How am I supposed to face Xiao Feng now!!!" My neck felt something dripping on it, and I knew that Shan Xiong couldn't hold back anymore.
"You idiot, are you willing to die for me? Can't I take your place and block it for you? Everyone is approaching, hand over my gun." He explained in a low voice to Shan Xiong, then urged him to bring his gun over, because the range of the grenade was not far, at this distance, they should be almost under our eyelids.
"I'm going to kill you all!!!!" The enraged mountain bear didn't bother with me, but instead picked up the machine gun and stood at the window, forgetting to even take cover, crazily sweeping his shots downwards.
Seeing him like that, I could only quickly crawl to the sniper rifle beside me, stick the barrel out from the hole below, aim at a guy who was already preparing to shoot at the mountain bear, and fire. The recoil pulled on the wound on my back, it hurt so much that my mouth was wide open. 'Wait a minute, it will hurt even more......'
