Chapter 29: Breaking the Enemy's Ambush (2)
Li Fei and Hane Ad exchanged a glance.
"Let's do it," Hane Ad said, shrugging his shoulders in resignation.
Li Fei had no choice but to follow Hane Ad, leading their troops to move swiftly to the left flank.
As soon as Li Fei and Hane Ad's troops were in position, the enemy entered their line of fire.
"Fire!" Li Fei and Hane Ad shouted simultaneously, opening fire on the enemy.
Instantly, all the soldiers began firing at the enemy. The sound of gunfire was deafening, causing the enemy to become disoriented and unable to react for a long time. By the time they regained their composure, over ten of them had been killed.
The enemy retreated in disarray.
Li Fei and Hane Ad did not want to withdraw yet.
Tian Hu, who was positioned in the middle, frantically waved his hand at them, urging them to retreat quickly.
"Should we retreat?" Li Fei asked Hane Ad.
"What about Tian Hu?" Hane Ad replied.
"I'll stay with him," Li Fei said. "You lead the troops and withdraw first."
"No way," Hane Ad said. "I'm familiar with this terrain. You two should leave first, and I'll ensure Tian Hu's safety."
Tian Hu was getting anxious on the other side, seeing Li Fei and Hane Ad still arguing. He picked up a small stone and threw it at Li Fei.
"Ah!" Li Fei cried out in pain.
Li Fei turned to see Tian Hu glaring at him, his eyes blazing with anger. He rubbed his head and said to Hane Ad, "Let's not argue anymore. We should leave now. If we don't, Tian Hu might start shooting at us."
Hane Ad also saw the look on Tian Hu's face and reluctantly followed Li Fei's orders, leading the troops to withdraw swiftly.
The enemy on the left flank had been severely beaten back, and those responsible for the central attack quickly realized that their pincer movement had been foiled. They launched a frenzied attack on the center, with over a hundred people charging forward.
Tian Hu opened fire before they entered normal firing range.
This caught the enemy off guard: What's going on? Are they wasting bullets?
The enemy slowed down, and because they knew that advancing further would be suicidal, their frenzied momentum dissipated. Many of the enemy soldiers who had been shouting earlier stopped in their tracks.
Tian Hu quickly finished a magazine of ammunition and hastily reloaded another, continuing to fire.
In the brief moment it took Tian Hu to reload, the enemy realized that there was only one machine gun firing from this side, and they understood that there was only one person on this flank.
The enemy became bolder and prepared to launch another charge.
At this time, the defeated troops from the left flank returned to the center. The Japanese lieutenant saw them and immediately stopped the central troops from charging: "These people are too cunning. We can't fall for their trap again and get killed."
The central troops listened and thought it made sense, so they cancelled their charge.
"Advance in scattered formation!" the Japanese lieutenant ordered.
