Chapter 29: Breaking the Enemy's Ambush (1)
"Li Fei, you're not aware of it, but a part of the enemy is quietly retreating to the back," Tian Hu said suddenly, his lips tightly pursed.
Li Fei quickly looked towards the enemy. The movement was extremely subtle, and if Tian Hu hadn't been carefully watching them, they might not have noticed the change in personnel.
"What are the devils up to?" Li Fei asked, puzzled. "Are they also retreating?"
Tian Hu shook his head and remained silent, biting his lip again.
"Haen Eid, can you see what the enemy is plotting?" Li Fei turned to Haen Eid and nudged him.
"I don't see anything," Haen Eid replied, glancing over at the enemy. "It seems like someone is retreating, but I didn't look closely. Maybe they received a retreat order?"
"You're also an idiot, no brains," Li Fei said, unhappy, and returned to Tian Hu's side.
"Should I go take a look?" Li Fei asked Tian Hu.
"No need," Tian Hu replied. "I understand now. There's a road behind the forest that leads to the left side, which is where Haen Eid and his team took when they launched their surprise attack. The enemy seems to be planning to use the same tactic, attacking from both sides and pinning us down."
"That means their frontal assault will be greatly weakened," Li Fei asked, puzzled.
"It looks like they've already figured out our strength, which is why they're making this decision," Tian Hu said.
"What should we do? We have so few people now. If the enemy finds out, won't they just wipe us out?"
Tian Hu nodded: "The situation is very dire. Can you estimate where Guo Yinan's team has reached by now?"
"I've never been to Shen Mountain, I don't know," Li Fei replied. "I'll go ask Haen Eid."
"Haen Eid, can you estimate if Guo Yinan's team has entered the mountain?" Li Fei asked.
Haen Eid nodded: "They should be close by now. If we hurry over, we can only meet up with them in the mountains."
Li Fei quickly returned to Tian Hu and relayed Haen Eid's words.
Tian Hu thought for a moment, then suddenly pinched his nose between his thumb and index finger, making a decision: "Li Fei, you and Haen Eid take all the team members to the left side. As soon as the enemy enters range, open fire fiercely. If the enemy retreats, you'll immediately withdraw to Shen Mountain."
"How can that be? You're staying here in the middle, where the enemy's main force is attacking!"
"I think the enemy's true attack is on the left side, while the middle route might just be a feint," Tian Hu explained. "If I don't fire, they won't dare get too close. When you repel the enemy on the left, they'll realize our middle route is empty and switch from a feint to a full-on attack. That's when you can withdraw, and I'll just need to cover for another ten minutes or so before I can also retreat. This way, our team will be able to escape intact."
"That's too dangerous! No way, you're the captain, you go with Haen Eid to the left side, and I'll provide cover!"
"I'm more familiar with this terrain than you are," Tian Hu said firmly. "I'll provide cover."
"This is an order!" Tian Hu shouted sternly. "The battle situation will change in an instant. If you delay any further, the enemy on the left will attack, and we won't be able to make it! Execute the order!"
Haen Eid, who had been listening to the conversation between Tian Hu and Li Fei, turned around and requested: "Let me provide cover instead."
"This is an order!" Tian Hu repeated firmly.
