Chapter 16: The Japanese Devils (1)
The arrogant Japanese naval squadron and Lieutenant Colonel Yamada's infantry battalion were caught off guard by the powerful attack of the Righteous Brave Army, and they panicked, surrendering one after another.
Just then, a soldier rushed in to find Lin Jiangshi and said, "Captain Lin, the devils have occupied Queenstown. This is a letter from Chen Jiageng for you."
Lin Jiangshi took the letter and read it, his face immediately clouded with worry. He quickly found Tianhu and showed him the letter, saying, "The enemy has not only occupied Queenstown but also sent a regiment to Yulang and Banzhulan to wipe out the remaining Righteous Brave Army. Chen Jiageng wants us to avoid unnecessary casualties and disperse immediately. I think that for the sake of so many lives, we have no choice but to do so. What do you think?"
Tianhu did not respond, but instead became even more enraged, using his bayonet to kill two Japanese devils who were nearby.
"Give the order," Tianhu said, throwing away his gun and looking at Lin Jiangshi with tears in his eyes.
"Retreat immediately! Disperse and return to the city!" Lin Jiangshi ordered.
The Righteous Brave Army soldiers were all teary-eyed, muttering curses as they reluctantly threw down their guns and dispersed.
"Let's go, Tianhu," Lin Jiangshi said, pulling Tianhu along as he ran towards the rear of the battlefield.
"We'll split up to avoid being a big target," Lin Jiangshi said.
Tianhu looked at Lin Jiangshi's retreating back, then took off his Righteous Brave Army uniform and wiped away the gunpowder and dust from his face. He threw the uniform on the ground, looking disheveled as he walked towards the temporary hospital in Banzhulan.
The wounded soldiers in the hospital had also been transferred elsewhere.
Tianhu saw Long Fanglan still busy at work and quietly walked over to stand behind her.
Long Fanglan turned around, startled to see Tianhu standing there, then smiled happily and said, "You're back!"
Tianhu looked at Long Fanglan's pale face, worn out from lack of sleep, and didn't say a word. He simply pulled her into his arms.
Long Fanglan didn't resist, quietly resting her head on Tianhu's broad chest as he held her tightly.
"The devils are here! Everyone run!" someone suddenly shouted loudly outside the hospital.
"You should go," Long Fanglan said, pushing Tianhu away.
"What about you?" Tianhu asked.
"I'm a nurse, I can be of use to them. You're a commander of the Righteous Brave Army, they'll specifically target you. Don't worry about me," Long Fanglan said.
"No way. The Japanese devils are ruthless, wherever they occupy, the women there will be ravaged. I won't leave you behind," Tianhu said.
"Go quickly, don't worry about me anymore. If you don't go now, it'll be too late," Long Fanglan said, pushing Tianhu towards the outside of the hospital.
Just as they reached the door, three shiny bayonets appeared.
"You go from the back," Long Fanglan hastily tried to pull Tianhu back.
But Tianhu had already grabbed one of the bayonets and pulled it in, then slapped the Japanese devil on the neck, knocking him to the ground. Tianhu then turned the gun around and stabbed another Japanese devil in the heart with his bayonet.
The third Japanese devil saw that things were not going well and tried to escape.
But Tianhu's movements were incredibly fast - as soon as he had stabbed one devil, his other foot was already kicking the escaping devil, sending him tumbling to the ground.
