Chapter 15: The Final Battle (2)
Quickly, the soldiers from the 7th and 8th lines moved out to the abandoned British warehouse to transport gasoline. Under Tianhu's command, they carried the gasoline to a mound of earth and rolled it down.
In no time at all, the area in front of the 3rd line was littered with gasoline drums. Tianhu then ordered the soldiers to pour the remaining gasoline from the storage room into the sea.
The gasoline floated on the surface of the water, drifting towards the Japanese army's camp along the coastline. Before long, a thick layer of gasoline had formed on the surface of the water, extending all the way to the Japanese army's camp.
After Tianhu finished deploying the gasoline, he ran back to the 3rd line to observe the enemy. The Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron was disembarking from their ships.
"Everyone, get ready for battle," Tianhu ordered. "We are facing the Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron, which is known for its superior equipment and rigorous training. We must be on high alert. Wait for my command to fire your guns at the gasoline drums, not at the enemy. The three-man team on the left wing, after the battle begins, you will blow up the two gasoline drums placed by the sea."
"Understood!" the soldiers replied.
Tianhu then fixed his gaze intently on the enemy's movements. The Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron had finished disembarking and was marching towards Tianhu's position under the leadership of Major Yamada.
These Japanese sailors were too arrogant, not taking us seriously at all, marching in formation towards us. I'll teach them a lesson, let them taste our fury.
Tianhu decided to lure the Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron into the area with the gasoline drums and then attack, letting the fire burn them alive.
Just as Tianhu was waiting for the right moment to give the order to open fire, Lin Jiangshi rushed over.
"The British have abandoned their defenses, allowing the Japanese to land at Changi without resistance. Chen Jiaxing and other leaders of the guilds want us to preserve our strength, disperse, and immediately withdraw from the battlefield to avoid a devastating blow."
Tianhu didn't respond, pointing at the Japanese troops marching towards them and asking Lin Jiangshi, "What do you think?"
"Too arrogant," Lin Jiangshi replied.
"Do we still fight?" Tianhu asked.
Lin Jiangshi hesitated for a moment before seeing Tianhu's determined and hateful gaze. He gritted his teeth and said fiercely, "Fight! Let's kill those bastards!"
Tianhu immediately gave the order to open fire. In an instant, the soldiers on the 3rd line fired their guns at the gasoline drums in front of them.
The sound of explosions shook the air, echoing through the skies. The three-man team on the left wing also fired at the two gasoline drums placed by the sea, causing them to explode and ignite the gasoline floating on the surface of the water.
A wall of fire spread along the coastline, burning all the way to where the Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron had anchored their rubber boats. In just a short while, the boats were all sunk.
The Japanese Navy's 6th Squadron and Major Yamada's infantry battalion were surrounded by the sea of flames.
"Charge! Kill!" Tianhu shouted, leading the soldiers in a fierce counterattack.
"Everyone charge together, kill them all!" Lin Jiangshi also shouted, leading all the soldiers from the eight lines to follow Tianhu in the attack.
For a time, the sound of gunfire and shouts filled the air on Pasir Panjang Hill.
