Chapter 20: New Mountain Rescues the Refugees (2)
The Japanese devils' barracks were divided into small squads, each with only about ten people. The Japanese devils seemed to be used to sleeping soundly.
Tianhu sneaked into the barracks and saw eight devils inside through the dim light coming from outside the window. He didn't disturb them and went straight for the guns.
Tianhu took a few rifles and grenades, but just as he was about to leave, he stumbled upon a heavy machine gun.
"Machine gun!" Tianhu was overjoyed, not expecting to find one here. He had experienced the terror of the Japanese devils' machine guns during the defense of Singapore's third line of defense.
Tianhu immediately put down the other guns and picked up the machine gun. He suppressed his excitement and quietly left the room.
Outside, under the moonlight, Tianhu excitedly examined the machine gun, thinking to himself, "This is a big catch!"
But suddenly, he realized that the machine gun didn't have any ammunition.
What's the use of having a gun without bullets?
Tianhu put down the machine gun and immediately snuck back into the barracks to find the ammunition.
"Bang!" Tianhu was startled and hadn't noticed, but he accidentally bumped into someone. The person was knocked to the ground.
"Who is it? Why are you bumping around?" the Japanese devil who was knocked down said gruffly.
Tianhu's heart skipped a beat as he quickly lay down on the bed, not making a sound.
"Who is it? Why aren't you speaking?" the devil asked again.
Tianhu's heart was racing as he quietly pulled out his dagger, ready to use force if necessary.
But the devil just yawned and muttered a few words before going outside to relieve himself.
Tianhu wiped away the cold sweat on his forehead and quickly got up to search for the machine gun ammunition. He found six rounds and was excitedly trembling with joy.
Just then, the devil who had gone outside returned, yawning and walking towards his bed.
Tianhu quickly lay down next to the gun rack, pretending to be asleep.
The devil didn't notice Tianhu's presence and climbed into bed, snoring loudly.
Tianhu quietly crawled out of the barracks with the ammunition and found the machine gun on the ground. He quickly ran to the meeting point.
The other team members had also successfully stolen guns and ammunition and were excitedly showing off their spoils at the meeting point.
"Let's hurry up and leave! We can show off later!" Tianhu said, carrying the machine gun.
"What is that thing you're carrying? It's so big!" the team members asked in surprise and admiration as they followed Tianhu.
"It's a machine gun. This thing is powerful, one of it can take down dozens of rifles. I'll let you see its power later," Tianhu said, quickening his pace.
"Tianhu has returned!" A team member who was keeping watch on the shore reported to Guo Yinan.
Guo Yinan came out of the ship to welcome Tianhu and saw that he had brought back a machine gun. He exclaimed, "Good job! This is a big catch! We're not just a group of refugees anymore; we should form a guerrilla team!"
"Tianhu, you've returned! I was worried about you," Long Fanglan said, running down from the ship to welcome Tianhu.
Everyone boarded the ship, and Tianhu's team members gathered their stolen weapons in the cargo hold.
"Tianhu, you're truly famous! I was worried that you would wake up the devils and not be able to escape. But you brought back so many weapons without being detected. I'm impressed," Guo Yinan said, admiring the weapons.
"Can we leave now?" a Malay fisherman asked.
"Are all the people on board?" Guo Yinan asked.
"Most of them are, but there are over a dozen who refused to come with us. They wanted to go back by themselves."
"Hmm, I'm afraid they won't survive if they go back. But it's too late now; we can only let them be. Let's leave," Guo Yinan said.
The five large fishing boats, each carrying over a hundred people, set off under the cover of night, heading towards Kota Kinabalu.
