Chapter 27:40 - The Battle of 250 Men (2)
Tianhu's eyes widened as he gazed at the six mortars that the Japanese devils had set up. He had seen their power during the defense of Singapore and wished he could have a few of those cannons.
The Japanese artillery fired wildly from afar, shooting dozens of shells before suddenly stopping. The enemy infantry began to gather in the middle.
"Everyone, prepare for battle!" Tianhu shouted, noticing that the enemy was about to charge.
As expected, the Japanese infantry gathered and charged towards Tianhu's defensive line.
"Fire!" Tianhu yelled, firing his machine gun and seeing the enemy fall one by one. The soldiers on both sides followed suit, and the sound of gunfire filled the air. The dozen or so enemies in the front row didn't even have time to scream before they fell to the ground.
"Retreat!" the Japanese commander shouted.
The enemy quickly retreated out of Tianhu's firing range.
"Immediately move all personnel to a new position, hurry!" Tianhu ordered Li Fei and another soldier.
Lü Liangwei, Aihamaide, Guo Ze, and Ma Haai didn't understand Tianhu's intentions. Why were they moving positions when they could be fighting?
But since the battle at Xinshan, Tianhu had shown incredible cunning and bravery in rescuing civilians, stealing weapons, and defeating the enemy. They couldn't help but trust him.
Luckily, they followed orders, or else they might have been annihilated. The Japanese mortars seemed to have eyes, striking their original hiding spots with precision.
"Wow, that's amazing! If Tianhu hadn't ordered us to move positions, we wouldn't be able to talk now," Ma Haai said, looking at the craters left by the mortar shells.
"Tianhu is really something. How did he predict the enemy's intentions in an instant?" Guo Ze asked in awe.
"I heard he was a commander of the Righteous Brave Army. With just 20-30 men, he defeated an entire Japanese infantry battalion and a naval squadron," Ma Haai said. "If the British hadn't been so cowardly and surrendered, the Japanese devils would have had to pay a huge price to take Singapore."
"The enemy is charging again! Everyone, prepare for battle!" Li Fei rushed over to deliver the message.
As expected, the Japanese infantry emerged in scattered formation, like a swarm of insects, and charged towards Tianhu's position.
"Fire! Everyone, shoot them down!" Ma Haai shouted.
The three machine guns forced the enemy to retreat when they reached 70-80 meters away.
"Retreat!" the Japanese commander shouted again.
This time, without waiting for Tianhu's orders, the soldiers quickly found new positions and lay down. Sure enough, the Japanese launched another fierce mortar attack.
