City of Evil (Chapter 7: Violent Interrogation)
Wen Qian and Xiao Yan saw three constables coming in, the first one was about 1.9 meters tall, even taller than the soldier on duty, this constable had a strong physique, wearing a black constable uniform that gave people a sense of fear, he had a gun holster and a decorative dagger symbolizing his identity as a constable officer on his waist, his all-black uniform was clean and tidy, giving people the first impression that he was a very serious military man.
Wen Qian stared at Yu Fei's face for at least five seconds, feeling that this guy was quite good-looking and had a strong presence. The military badge on his cap reflected the light brightly, and she really liked this unknown guy a bit. However, it didn't matter; from the start, they could slowly get familiar with each other. If he was also an honest law enforcement officer who didn't take bribes, she would choose him as her partner. After searching the building, the squad leader reported to the platoon leader: "One hundred and fifty police officers, one hundred and forty-eight dead."
"It's a shame for the federal government, it's better if they're dead, so we don't have to hand them over to the anti-corruption agency. Without them, we can start investigating other cases." Yu Fei said to himself, before coming here he only knew that this place was chaotic, but didn't expect it to be this bad, because of the uneven distribution of black money, the corrupt police and thieves fought each other to a pulp, if they hadn't taken action today, the police would have been killed off.
Wen Qian stood up and asked: "Hello, what should I call you?"
"Constable Yu Fei." Yu Fei didn't dare to focus his attention on the female police officer, and instead looked down at the ground with drooping eyelids. "Nice to meet you, I'm Police Officer Wen Qian, looking forward to a pleasant cooperation in the future." Wen Qian asked for his name and told him her own, hoping he would remember, but also fearing that he might not, so she handed over a business card. Pleasant cooperation? Yu Fei thought to himself with a smile, as long as there are constables like me in this city, who needs support from others? It's always the constables supporting other law enforcement departments, never the other way around. The constables are the only clean law enforcement team in this city.
Wen Yong is an officer, and there are still some things that need to be done. He sees Yu Fei not taking his business card, but quickly takes it over and hands him one of his own, saying a few polite words before the situation becomes too awkward. The arrogance in Yu Fei's personality is exposed in front of everyone. Wen Qian stands in front of him, her eyes fixed on his face, looking into his eyes thinking "you're quite arrogant, I don't believe you can't be tamed". She attaches great importance to Yu Fei, but with this attitude of his, it's unlikely she'll make contact with him immediately.
The military police collected the police's weapons and handed them over to the police for safekeeping, while confiscating all the bandits' weapons and preparing to seal them up. The scene was left for the police to handle, as the military police didn't have time to collect the bodies. Yu Fei was dealing with some trivial matters, preparing to leave, when Xiao Yan said to her: "There are no police here, you should send someone to guard this place. There are weapons stored here and many important suspects."
"Then take all these people away, the military police also have the right to detain suspects." Yu Fei actually wanted to investigate this matter and could only do so by bringing the suspects back. Xiao Yan was worried that more bandits would come here to make trouble, so she still had the suspects transferred to another detention center for custody. She called out all the suspects from the basement, filled out the necessary procedures, and handed over the criminal suspects to the military police for handling. The military police truck was loaded with the suspects and seized weapons and ammunition as it left.
Back at the garrison, Wen Yong still wanted to hold a meeting tonight to introduce the new commanding officer to the soldiers, but Yu Fei thought it would be better for the soldiers to get some rest, so he put it off until tomorrow. The morning exercise was cancelled because of last night's mission, and Yu Fei called the duty officer early in the morning not to sound the wake-up signal, letting the soldiers sleep in a bit longer. When the soldiers gathered together to prepare for their morning exercise, Wen Yong stood at the front of the formation, "Today's exercise is cancelled, go straight to the cafeteria for breakfast." The soldiers really wanted to cheer, but they didn't dare in front of this strict officer, so they just went to eat as usual.
Yu Fei himself bought a lot of food on the road, all in his bag. Yesterday, he had many tasks and didn't even open the food. He got up early, ate casually without going to the cafeteria, and then patrolled the entire barracks by himself. After finishing breakfast, the soldiers still didn't know what changes were happening, they lined up and waited for the new officer's speech.
"Good morning, I'm Yu Fei, the new platoon leader. From now on, we'll be working together. I want to make one thing clear: this city has the highest crime rate in the world, and my goal is to crack down on it severely. Before I leave office, I aim to solve all these cases. If anyone is afraid of those thieves, speak up and I'll transfer you out of here. I don't like cowards. The Minister of National Defense and the Provost Marshal don't want us to be a bunch of idle eaters either."
"Sir, we've been wanting to take care of those thieves for a long time. You can encounter dozens of pickpockets just by taking a bus ride. There are too many local thieves and the police don't care about us. We're willing to follow you to clean them up." The squad leader, Qian Shifei, took the lead in expressing support for the new officer's crusade against crime. In the past, their superiors not only didn't dispatch them to catch thieves but also forbade them from carrying weapons when going out. Several times, they had clashed with thugs on the streets and the military police had been at a disadvantage. Everyone hated those outside thieves.
"This morning, everyone will rest first and be on high alert. There is an important suspect in our detention room and we must guard the barracks well." Yu Fei didn't arrange training for them and let them defend in place. "Ensure the completion of the task." The soldiers were all delighted, no need to train and suffer from the sergeant's torture, how comfortable and great it was.
After dismissing the soldiers, Yu Fei took Wen Yong into the underground detention room and brought a middle-aged man wearing a suit with a sullen face into the interrogation room. This guy is one of the leaders of the local criminal gang, it was him who had conflicts with the police that led to last night's bloody battle, this kid has some real power.
"How dare you lock me up like this, just unlock the door and let me out. Don't think that just because you're a stinky soldier, even the Minister of Internal Affairs in the Ministry of Justice wouldn't dare treat me like this. Look at those little police officers over there, they don't listen to my words and that's what happens to them."
"This is Shen San, a local ringleader from Wanghaijiao District. He commits all sorts of crimes and has bribed many officials, so no one dares to touch him. What do you think we should do since the lawsuit hasn't even started yet?" Yu Fei walked over, pulled out an M1911A9 pistol, and shot two bullets at his ankle, disabling him on the spot. This shocked Wen Yong, who didn't expect him to disregard legal procedures and rely solely on violence to deal with local crime syndicates.
Shen San cried out in pain, staring at his wound, "You won't die a good death."
Yu Fei circled around the suspect a few times, holding the heavy M1911A9 pistol and hitting him on the head several times. "The experience of dealing with criminals is not to talk about law or justice with them. Prosecuting them is useless, they have money to bribe prosecutors and judges, and can even buy off prison police in the federal law enforcement agency. Even if they go to court, they won't die, and their property won't be confiscated. If their money is confiscated, all law enforcement officials can turn it over, but they themselves won't get anything. So, money can serve as a bond, tightly linking them together into a group. Even if they're put in prison, they'll still enjoy the same treatment as in a five-star hotel, and can be released on parole at any time. The only way to avoid their collusion is not to let them go to court. We have no choice but to take illegal measures to punish them. If you don't want to do it, go to another law enforcement oversight department to report me. That's equivalent to protecting all the city's criminals."
This move allowed Wen Yong, who was deeply resentful of the criminals, to vent his anger. "As long as it can bring peace here, I won't report you even if you break the law, because I'll work with you to suppress the gang's influence." Wen Yong genuinely stood together with him, and he wanted to eliminate the criminals with one heart. If not, he could have written a report yesterday saying that the police were watching from the shore and not rescuing, which would also make Yu Fei leave.
"You think I'll let you live to see a judge and accuse me of hurting you? I'm telling you, you won't see a judge. Once you're dead, I'll just throw you out and that's it." Yu Fei ignored Wen Yong's response and continued talking to the bandit leader. After finishing, he returned to his seat and waited for the bandit to confess on his own. Just as they hadn't gotten any information yet, a voice came from the intercom: "Officer, there's someone outside looking for you, says they're your friend."
Yu Fei was still puzzled. Since he didn't have any friends locally, it wouldn't be someone coming to plead for this guy's release, would it? He picked up the intercom and said: "What's the name of the person looking for me?"
"He said you have to call him Mr. Xu Er Ye." The soldier replied and stood up immediately, knowing who had arrived. Yu Fei walked out of the gate and saw that it was Xu Rui, and quickly stepped forward politely saying: "How did you come?"
"You've become prosperous and yet you don't come to see me, isn't that very thoughtless?" Xu Rui saw the military officer behind Yu Fei was Wen Yong, and immediately walked over, "Old Nine, how did you end up here without contacting me? You little scoundrel is even worse, how did you get mixed up with him."
"Brother, I've been a soldier here for two years and can't leave." Wen Yong came forward to greet him.
"How did you two get mixed up together, don't you know each other? Can't forget the past when we were fighting for our lives?" Xu Rui used to run a mercenary company, Yu Fei was just an ordinary employee in his company, and Wen Yong was his childhood best friend. His own brother Wen Yong had followed him and Yu Fei before, and after a few years, both of them had changed a lot. "Wen Yong is my brother, you're his superior now, take care of him, don't let him risk his life, he's the only one in his family." Xu Rui was also familiar with the local situation and knew that being a constable was too dangerous, so he gave Yu Fei advance notice. Yu Fei had followed Xu Rui as a mercenary before, and their relationship was not bad, they were sworn brothers, how could he not take care of his benefactor's brother? It was nothing to take care of him, and as a constable, he definitely wouldn't send him to dangerous places.
