Insufficient balance

  June 6, 1982, a month after Bao Yulin arrived in Lebanon, Israel used the assassination of its ambassador to the United Kingdom by Palestinian guerrillas as an excuse to mobilize more than 100,000 troops from land, sea and air to launch a large-scale attack on the Palestinian Liberation Organization guerrilla forces and Syrian troops within Lebanon.

  Actually, in the days leading up to the outbreak of war, everyone had already sensed that something was amiss. On June 4th, the Israeli Air Force suddenly launched a surprise attack on the base of the Palestinian Liberation Organization's guerrilla forces within Lebanon. The following two days saw continuous exchanges of fire, making everyone extremely tense, especially the French Foreign Legion troops from the United Nations peacekeeping force stationed at the border between the two countries.

  They were in a location right on the border between Israel and Lebanon, in Nahariya. The area was flat as a pancake, with large concrete blocks placed along both sides of the highway. However, everyone knew that these were just for show, and would be no match for tanks or armored bulldozers. In any case, if either side were to launch a surprise attack on the other, the peacekeeping forces would be the first to bear the brunt. As a result, many people joked that they had become human shields, armed but unable to fight (according to UN regulations, peacekeeping forces are equipped with weapons but are not allowed to use force unless in self-defense). All they could do was wear bulletproof vests and take bullets for others. But this was just a joke - everyone knew that except for a few factions and extremists, regular armed forces would not dare to attack the peacekeeping forces, as this would mean going up against the entire international community.

  On the 6th day, early in the morning, Bao Yulin had just returned to his dormitory after being laid off. After washing up, before he could even lie down, a sudden vibration of the earth caught his attention. An earthquake? It didn't seem like an earthquake. The vibration and sound seemed to be coming from the direction of Israel. Connecting this with the unusual actions of the Israeli side over the past two days, Bao Yulin suddenly realized that this wasn't an earthquake, but rather the vibrations caused by a large-scale tank movement!

  The emergency assembly whistle sounded at this time, and Bao Yulin's clothes had just been taken off. Now nothing else mattered, he hastily put on his clothes, grabbed his gun and rushed out of the barracks. Of course, he didn't forget to wear his bulletproof vest.

  "Ladies and gentlemen, according to radar indications, it seems that Israel is planning a large-scale attack on Lebanon. I have already reported this to the battalion and the United Nations. From now on, I require each of you to strictly follow your designated positions and defend your individual posts. Everyone must remember that our mission is to maintain regional peace, not war. Therefore, I demand that everyone be mindful of their responsibilities and remain calm in any situation, without acting irrationally!" The foreign legion commander said sternly. Both the French government and the foreign legion attach great importance to the United Nations' mission. The highest commander at the point where Bao Yulin is located is a lieutenant colonel."

  "Yes! Sir!" Not just Bao Yulin, everyone knew that once the war started, what they would face.

  "Everyone in position!" The officer didn't want to say more, and with a single order, dozens of soldiers from the French Foreign Legion quickly arrived at their designated positions as they had practiced before.

  Everyone knows that if there is any movement on the Israeli side, with just a few dozen infantrymen carrying light weapons, they will not be able to withstand the Israeli military's tanks and artillery. However, before receiving orders, they can only try their best to hold on.

  The lieutenant colonel of the legion and the Israeli colonel were talking about something, when the Israeli colonel suddenly pulled out a pistol and pressed it against the chest of the foreign legion lieutenant colonel.

  Bao Yulin knew that if the lieutenant colonel of the foreign legion dared to block the road with a dozen men, he was not someone who feared trouble. Since he dared to do so, Bao had nothing to fear either.

  Just as the Israeli colonel was threatening the foreign legion lieutenant with his gun, Bao Yulin's gun fired. He stood up, facing such a large number of troops, this bunker built on the rooftop was a joke in itself, and it would be better to be more generous. Bao Yulin fired two shots in a row, the first shot was a warning shot into the sky. The next shot hit the ground in front of the Israeli colonel's feet.   The armed personnel of the UN peacekeeping force are not allowed to use their guns at will. There is only one condition for using guns, and that is in self-defense. Now, an Israeli colonel is threatening the life of a lieutenant colonel from the foreign legion with his gun. Bao Yulin fired his gun, and he did so openly. Bao Yulin understood that the purpose of firing this shot could only be to serve as a warning. With dozens of peacekeeping soldiers against tens of thousands of heavily armed Israeli soldiers, it was simply impossible to fight back. He stood up not wanting to cause misunderstanding, fearing that the Israelis would think it was a signal to start fighting. As long as he made such a gesture, everyone would understand that the UN peacekeeping force and the French foreign legion did not want to confront them, but they would not be threatened!

  Bao Yu-lin's two shots shocked the Israeli soldiers, who simultaneously raised their guns in the direction of Bao Yu-lin.
