Insufficient balance
Since the United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 181 in 1947 (33 votes for, 13 against, and 10 abstentions), the Middle East has not been peaceful. From the first Middle East war in 1948 to subsequent wars, each time Israel was involved. It is unthinkable why such an unfair resolution would be passed at that time, giving 57% of Palestine's total area to Jews who accounted for only 32% of the population (originally owning only 7% of the land). This decision would make anyone uncomfortable if it were someone else. Every family has its own unspeakable secrets; no one knows what people thought at that time. However, everyone believes that if these people were allowed to vote again, they would probably get the same result. No one wants the Middle East to be too quiet, after all, it is the world's oil warehouse.
After the Fourth Middle East War, both sides were wounded and needed some time to rest, lick their wounds, and prepare for the next war.
As one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, France showed great enthusiasm for the situation in the Middle East. In order to protect French interests, some French troops were sent to the Middle East, including Paulette's sniper instructor, Ball.
Since March 1978, the French government responded to a UN resolution and sent an inter-arms force to Lebanon. For the Foreign Legion, as part of the French Armed Forces, with great international reputation and special identity, it was naturally the first choice for peacekeeping missions, so many peacekeeping missions were preferred by the United Nations.

After Ball left the Second Parachute Battalion, Bao Yulin took his place and became a sniper instructor. If Ball's teaching method was more focused on urban sniper warfare, then Bao Yulin's practical experience made him pay more attention to natural environments in field battles. However, this way, the snipers who fell into his hands were tired. Everyone knows that the training of snipers is closely related to the environment, if it is set as an urban environment, then the problem of eating every day can be guaranteed. The urban environment is like this, one person guards a point, generally in places with open views, and then Bao Yulin randomly selects several cardboard soldiers to appear, testing the snipers' adaptability and shooting level. Of course, there's also their protective level.
Outdoor training was different, Bao Yulin required snipers to shoot and kill all enemy targets within the range of the position while protecting themselves. This was not very difficult, but the problem was that the foreign-trained sniper team did not know when Bao Yulin would send out imaginary enemies or sneak up on their own hiding place. Often they would hide for one or two days, sometimes making them wonder if Bao Yulin had forgotten about them. In fact, however, Bao Yulin usually found them before they discovered the target and completed the task, then used stones or rubber bullets to tell them that this time's mission had failed again.
The snipers trained by Bao Yulin quickly emerged in various exercises of the Foreign Legion and received more attention and reuse. Bao Yulin himself was rewarded with an Excellent Service Medal and a promotion to First Class Soldier for this. He became the first Chinese soldier to receive the Excellent Service Medal of the Foreign Legion.

In early 1982, the situation in Lebanon deteriorated further. Anti-government forces supported by some Lebanese Phalangists and Druze militiamen attacked and harassed Israeli Defense Forces while also targeting multinational peacekeeping troops stationed in Lebanon for their mission. In their view, it was the presence of these peacekeeping troops and economic blockade that made the situation in Lebanon even more tense, deepening the suffering of the Lebanese people.
That afternoon, Ball and several other soldiers from the Fijian battalion were on a routine patrol at a checkpoint. Everyone knew about the situation between Lebanon and Israel, but generally extremist attacks were targeted against Israeli soldiers and UN peacekeeping forces were spared. But no one could have predicted what happened that day.
According to a UN investigation, on the morning of May 2, 1982, a car driven by a Lebanese and loaded with explosives and nails approached a roadblock manned by French paratroopers from the French Foreign Legion. As the soldiers approached the vehicle, the driver detonated the explosives, killing nine people including himself and six members of the UNIFIL French contingent.
As a soldier, once you put on the uniform, it means that you are ready to go to war at any time. War itself is defined as a matter of life and death. And joining mercenaries is even more so, according to the definition given by the Geneva Convention, mercenaries are military personnel who engage in armed conflict for personal gain, generally speaking, they do not even have the right to be treated as combatants or prisoners of war. The people in the French Foreign Legion are mercenaries, but in Lebanon, they enjoy various rights because they were hired by the United Nations.
Unfortunately, all these things were no longer important to Bal. He was one of the soldiers of the French Foreign Legion who went up to check the car. The large number of iron nails mixed in the car bomb directly led to his death.
Bao Yulin didn't know about the news until several days later. The officer of the Foreign Legion told Bao Yulin about the news of Bal when he was ordered to go to Lebanon for a UN peacekeeping mission.
"Baoyulin, according to the legion's convention, since you are currently serving as a sniper instructor, you have the option to choose not to go to Lebanon or recommend someone else to go in your place, so that you can continue with your current work. This privilege is only granted under normal circumstances, i.e., non-mobilization situations, as a special treatment for those who hold honorary coaching positions. Of course, if you choose to go, apart from enjoying high attendance allowances, you will also be promoted one rank, which will make it more convenient for you to guide other soldiers with your experience and skills in the war zone." The officer in charge of the conversation was expressionless, completely businesslike. After all, this was about sending someone to the front line.
"I wonder if Balu went through such an inquiry at that time?" asked Bao Yulin.
"Of course, this is the tradition of our legion and special treatment for every trainee who takes on coaching work. Because of your existence, our legion's combat effectiveness will be continuously improved." The officer apparently knew what Bao Yulin meant and explained.
"If Balken can go, why can't I? I'm a soldier, just like Balken. I have the awareness of fighting, and besides, the attendance allowance is high, isn't it? I'm a mercenary." Baoyulin didn't have the talent for telling jokes, but if someone else had said that last sentence, it would have been very tasteful. However, coming from Baoyulin's mouth, it had a moving tone to it.
"Then please confirm this document and sign here." The officer pushed the document in front of Bao Yulin, which was a task dispatch document. The main information on it was Bao Yulin's identity*. If Bao Yulin was like Balu, then his condolence money would be given to the person he designated according to this confirmed document.
Baoyu Lin's designated condolence money and inheritance recipient is Baoyu Feng. It has been almost two years since he went abroad, Baoyu Lin does not know the situation of his mother at home, he dare not and cannot ask about it.
After watching Bao Yulin sign the document, the officer stood up solemnly and gave Bao Yulin a salute. Not everyone who has served as a coach is willing to sign this document. Bar signed it, and now Bao Yulin has too.
After returning to the barracks, Bao Yulin didn't say anything to anyone else. Due to various reasons or professional relationships, Bao Yulin rarely communicated with others, and during training, he silently completed his tasks. Although he didn't physically fight or punish like Bal, the snipers he trained were all afraid of him. This fear seemed contagious, as no one in the team dared to provoke him. However, it was strange that usually in the army, people feared those who were strong and powerful, but Bao Yulin rarely spoke, yet made others unwilling to discuss him.
Bao Yulin remembered that there was such a thing, a guy who actively chose to join the 13th team as a driver saw Bao Yulin's oriental face and thought it was quite fresh, so he asked other old soldiers about Bao Yulin. As a result, everyone in the house looked at him strangely, as if he were some kind of monster. Later, it was his training instructor who came to his rescue.
He pointed at the new recruit's head with one finger and made a single sound: "Bang". It was very simple, just a gesture and a word. At that moment, the whole room fell silent. If Bao Yulin had walked past the window a few seconds later, he would not have believed that there were several seconds of absolute silence in the lively room at that time.
Later, Bao Yulin observed for a while and didn't know why everyone seemed to be really afraid of him. Few people took the initiative to talk to him about anything. But Bao Yulin didn't mind, he just didn't want to gossip with others anyway.
Back in the dormitory, Bao Yulin still had a lot to do. First of all, he had to recommend a sniper training officer for the troops. When the training officer has benefits, there are also corresponding obligations. His own things also need to be packed up, except for personal equipment and necessary living supplies, everything else can be handed over to the troop's custodian, in case of death, they will send these things back to China.
When tidying up, Bao Yulun was very careful, and all the medals he had obtained since joining the French Foreign Legion were kept. The key is to attach a Chinese explanation and introduction to the French Foreign Legion, so that if something unexpected happens, people at home can understand the nature of the foreign legion without asking for translation. Of course, there are also his own diaries. Bao Yulun hopes that if he really dies, Xiangshui Village and his family will understand that he is an excellent soldier, whether in the past or now, he has nothing to be ashamed of.
。。。。。。
Two days later, Bao Yulin appeared in Lebanon. His position was the original position of Bal. However, the legion made some adjustments based on the situation that occurred. The sniper will no longer be responsible for checking vehicles and pedestrians. But in a hidden location to fully monitor the checkpoint, if necessary, provide support to companions at the first time.
