Chapter 65: Forced Ambush (2)

Looking into the captain's eyes, I felt even more at a loss, nervously shifting my gaze away, my hands involuntarily tightening and loosening their grip on the gun. Several times I opened my mouth to speak, but couldn't get the words out for half a day. I didn't know how to respond because of what happened yesterday - deep down inside, I still hadn't given myself a satisfactory answer.
"Follow the black bear, ensure your own safety."
The captain patted my shoulder and walked to the side: "Maybe you don't understand what we're doing, but that's just mercenaries. We're not national soldiers, everything we do is unscrupulous, I don't regret killing them, but I don't want to kill either. Believe me, your blood flows with the genes of war, you will get used to killing, and become an important member here. When Black Bear chose you at first, it was absolutely not wrong."
My heart is in a mess, I lifted my head and took a look at his back, swallowed some saliva, turned around and walked towards the black bear on the side.
Scorpion Tail slid down from the tree with a "zip zip zip" sound and shook his head at the captain, saying: "The trees are too dense, no enemy was found!"
The captain nodded and loudly commanded: "Set up an ambush! The target is in the 3-4 o'clock direction."
The crowd quickly swept away the traces around them and set up ambushes in three or four directions. In the trees, among the weeds, and in the crevices of rocks, the people who had experienced countless battles hid themselves with incredible speed, and in an instant, the people who were just standing around seemed to have vanished into thin air. The footprints on the ground also returned to normal, making it impossible to detect that there were more than a dozen murderous mercenaries hiding around.
I was pressed by a black bear to the back of a rock, and I took over a withered branch handed over by him to block my face. The black bear then scooped up several handfuls of snow and sprinkled them on me, and finally hid himself in a snowy area slightly lower than me, covering himself tightly with accumulated snow.
But I remained still, watching the black bear help me hide well, then hid itself again, looking at others "disappear" from my line of sight, looking at the quiet yet dangerous mountain forest, looking at the hands hidden behind rocks and the SG552 half-exposed in the snow.
The surroundings were quiet, so quiet it was frightening.
Time is fleeting.
I waited for about fifteen to twenty minutes, until my hands and feet were numb from the cold, when a faint voice came through the earpiece: "Target spotted, three o'clock direction, approximately 50 meters away, number of people unknown, over."
And then added: "I'm absolutely in love with the mercenary group's intelligence department."
"Prepare for battle!" The team leader ordered in a low voice.
The sound of the scorpion's tail kept coming faintly from the earpiece, reporting the latest situation of the enemy.
"Forty meters, number of people unknown, finished."
"Thirty-five meters, three groups, about nine people, fully armed, finished."
As the rustling sound of scorpions grew louder, a team of fully armed soldiers gradually appeared in my line of sight. As they drew closer, I could see them more clearly. Nine men, maintaining a complete attacking formation, three men per group, with the middle group slightly ahead, and the remaining two groups guarding both wings. Each group stood back-to-back, vigilant for any signs of danger from all directions, forming a triangular formation. Rifles at the ready, they cautiously approached us, aiming forward.
There is no sniper.
Bulletproof helmets and bulletproof vests, new-style AK rifles, extremely standard military evasion movements, it can be seen that they have very strong combat effectiveness.
But now they are being ambushed by an equal number of us in secret, unaware that the muzzle is already aiming at them.
What appeared before us was just a squad of soldiers, the Russian army could not have only dispatched such a small number of people to search and capture, the only thing that can be understood is: they divided their forces into squads and scattered them in all directions from Li Si, this way not only increased the chances of finding us, but also as long as there was a slight movement, the other small groups distributed around would immediately come to support.
"Sniper spotted!" Scorpion and Kim Ji-hoon almost shouted in unison through the earpiece, with Kim Ji-hoon continuing, "Enemy sniper detected 15 meters behind!"
"I'll take him down!" Scorpion Tail said.
"Note that Scorpion Tail is in charge of sniping, the rest of you focus on choosing targets, center, finished." The captain's voice came from the earpiece.
"Left one, finished." The madman's voice came immediately after.
"Left two, finished." Farmer.
"Left three, finished." Kitchen knife.
"Left four, finished." Kim Ji-hoon.
"Right one, finished." Black Bear.
"Right two, finished." Water snake.
"Right three, finished." Birdman.
"Abandon, finished." Tank's nonchalant voice finally came from the headset, leaving me stunned for a moment. But I immediately understood that Tank's weapon was not suitable for this kind of instant ambush, the six-barreled M134 Gatling gun's power was enormous, but it was absolutely not suitable for precise and swift strikes. By the time his machine gun "rattled" into a steady stream of bullets, the enemy had probably already hidden away.
The opposing team has ten people, and our team, including me and Kim Ji-hoon, is exactly eleven. However, except for the abandoned tank and me, there is still one person on the opposing side who hasn't been locked down by us. One person, especially a well-trained special forces operative, can hold us back for several minutes or even over ten minutes. And in this situation, every minute we lose means an additional fraction of danger.
"Number 17, finished." The captain would obviously be more aware of the current situation than me, and the remaining person could only be handed over to me.
"I..."
I feel a bit uneasy, the scene from this morning keeps replaying in my mind. I'm hesitant to make up my mind, sweat is already dripping from my forehead and palms, I just can't get past myself. I'm torn, what kind of role should I play?
The enemy is getting closer and closer, seeing that I couldn't make up my mind for a long time, the captain didn't delay any longer, and commanded through the headset: "Scorpion tail, 16th, right four, you two take him down for me, finished!"
"Understood, over."
Scorpion Tail and Kim Ji-joon firmly accepted the task, their voices still laced with a hint of indifference.
No pressure from the task, my heart suddenly became very relaxed, lightly exhaling a breath, exercising stiff fingers, I only then discovered that the sweat on my forehead had already frozen into ice blocks. My entire face was tightly wrapped, and the combat gloves I wore were already soaked with sweat, exercising a bit of wind, especially chilling to the bone.
The special forces across from us are getting closer and closer, I can clearly see the paint on their faces and those pairs of vigilant eyes.
Closer still, all of the enemy were completely exposed to our gunfire. The captain's low voice came through the earpiece once again: "Everyone, count to three and fire together!"
"Ah!" The other party didn't notice anything and slowly took a few more steps forward with caution.
"Two!" I saw a soldier opposite me with an alert gaze looking over here, his big eyes sharp and vigilant.
Three!
The guns went off, and nine people simultaneously pulled the triggers. In the midst of the nine different gunshots ringing out at the same time, bullets whizzed out of the muzzles, shooting towards the targets in front of them.
That sharp and vigilant big eye was suddenly shot open in my gaze, the whole face instantly burst into a bloody mist, the owner of the big eye raised his head high under the force of the bullet and fell backwards in the bloody mist, fingers reflexively tightening. The rifle in hand helplessly fired a string of bullets into the sky before being flung to the ground in despair.
The nine soldiers opposite simultaneously fell to the ground in a string of blood flowers. Fully armed, they had only their necks and faces as their most vulnerable spots, and the bullets hit those two places, causing a bloody rain that made me shiver involuntarily, my eyes narrowing into a small slit as I stared blankly ahead.
Scorpion Tail and Jin-woo quickly pulled up their guns after firing the first shot, aiming at the only surviving soldier on the opposite side.
That soldier could be called an excellent one, at the moment his comrade was shot down, he rushed to a tree trunk with a diameter of two arms' span beside him with a reaction speed beyond that of ordinary people. The two scorpion-tailed men closely followed the target and moved their gun muzzles, but still were a little slow, two bullets whizzed out in two straight trajectories and hit the tree trunk, shaking down snow all over the sky. Everyone's gun muzzle also followed suit, pulling the trigger, but only shooting bullets into the tree trunk, shaking off more snow.
"Bullshit!"
The scorpion tail roared again, pulled up the gun bolt and aimed at the opponent's hiding position. The mountain was quiet again.
