Chapter 3: No Matter How Long the Dark Night Is
"Shut up! You still dare to be stubborn." The man had wanted to use force to grab her arm, but suddenly saw the ring on her hand and his eyes lit up immediately.
"You're penniless and yet you dare to wear a ring. It must be stolen." As she spoke, she pried open her hand, about to snatch the ring away.
"Let go!" The cat struggled angrily and kicked one of its legs against the man's calf.
He shouted, gritting his teeth and pulling the ring off her finger. Then he flung her to the ground: "Consider this your meal money, haha."
Seeing the good things she had been entrusted with being snatched away, the cat was so angry that it almost burst its lungs. She let out a loud cry and pounced on him, biting down hard on his arm with all her might.
The sound of skin cracking, the smell of blood filled her entire mouth, she bit down hard until the man let out a strange cry, opening his palm in pain, and then she snatched the ring away, glared at him fiercely and ran off.
"You damned dare to bite me!" A furious roar came from behind, along with more noisy voices, all surging over like a black tide, trying to engulf her.
She ran with all her might, panting loudly until she was exhausted. She walked slowly along the street lamps in the park, and when she couldn't walk anymore, she lay down on the grass, gazing up at the starry sky.
Every time she gazes up at the starry sky, she has a feeling that somewhere else, there is another pair of deep and profound eyes gazing back at her.
She knew that those were Wei Chi's eyes, he was looking at her, telling her not to give up, every life has its own value of existence, it's just that you're still too young, so you haven't discovered.
When will we discover the value of life? I feel that the night is so long and the day is so far away.
But no matter how long the dark night is, the sun will still rise on time. Wei Chi, if it were you, I'm sure you would hold such expectations and wait for dawn with strength.
A small insect suddenly crawled onto her cheek, itchy, she used her hand to touch, but found a patch of dampness.
She rubbed her eyes and gazed up at the starry sky with a naive and tired smile.
Many nights later, she was like this, facing the dim blue starry sky, thinking of a boy named Wei Chi, telling herself not to think about those sad things, and then fell asleep.
The next morning, she wandered around under the sunlight, squatting on the ground whenever she was tired, imitating the beggars by the roadside with a pitiful look and occasionally coins would fall in front of her.
Every time at that moment, she would recall the girl at the train station. When the girl gave her the first coin, her eyes were so clear and pure without any impurities.
And the people walking on this humble street do not have such clear eyes, they are numb and bewildered, as if they have been walking for too long, no longer knowing where the starting point is or where the way back home is.
She held the begged money, crouched on the ground to eat a few dollars' worth of noodles, watching pairs of shoes coming and going, thinking that she would eventually become like this too, living mechanically, only able to see the future within arm's reach.
It was around noon when the sun was shining brightly, she crouched weakly in the corner of the wall. Not many people pitied her this morning, so she still hadn't collected enough money for lunch.
She endured her hunger and saw a couple walking from afar, the man casually threw her a banknote, then stood with the woman under the shade of a nearby tree.
