Chapter 8: 09 I will go on my own way
A deep corridor, with iron cells on both sides, the entire picture has a sense of spatial depth. The young man lowered his head, his black hair hanging down, and the chain on his feet dragged on the ground, making a hollow echo.
With a creak, the police opened the door and the dull white light outside rushed onto his face, Liang Chen squinted his somewhat dry eyes.
"How are you?" Hearing a familiar voice, Liang Chen turned his gaze towards the person sitting in front of him.
He had long guessed it was him.
"What are you looking for me?" Liang Chen sat down on the chair, his tone indifferent. His eyes were covered by his black hair, and not a ripple could be seen.
"Why don't you see the cat's hiding place." Wu Chi looked at the young man in front of him, and in just a few short days, he seemed to have changed into a different person. There was no spark in his eyes, what made him so desperate about this world that he even lost the courage to live?
"She doesn't need to see me." Liang Chen paused for a moment before responding in a low voice. "Besides, having you by her side is enough."
"This is just your idea." Wei Chi frowned slightly, "Do you think she'll give up if she doesn't see her? Do you think I can take care of her by myself?"
Liang Chen was silent and didn't say a word. The cat she loved wasn't herself, no one was more suitable to take care of her than Wei Chi, he knew this very well.
"I came to tell you that Meizi hasn't given up on you. Not now, and even less in the future. Yesterday, she went to beg the principal not to expel you, and even got into a fight with her classmates for your sake, but you won't even meet with her. What are you afraid of? Don't you care about her at all?"
Good day, furrowed brow, almost can imagine her injured appearance, heart uncontrollably sends over faint pain.
Why, when the whole world has already abandoned me, do you still insist on being foolish like this? Do you understand what you're doing? I'm just a murderer, someone who should have died long ago, not worth your efforts.
"No matter what you think, please tell her in person instead of avoiding it, which will only make her suffer for you." As Wei Chi said this, the door suddenly opened and he and Liang Chen looked towards the entrance at the same time. They saw Mao Ni standing there with a stubborn expression, behind him was Jing with an astonished face, as well as an awkward-looking policeman.
Although Wei Chi was slightly surprised, he knew that at this moment he should leave and let Mao Ni and Liang Chen clarify their conversation. So he stood up, walked to Mao Ni's side, and gestured for Jing and himself to step aside.
The cat looked at him with a thrill of excitement, and when she turned her head back, Liang Chen was sitting in his seat, burying his face, as if he hadn't seen her.
"Don't bother with me anymore, just pretend I'm already dead." Liang Chen said coldly before Mao Ni could speak.
Her face suddenly turned somewhat pale: "What did you say?"
Good times will not repeat themselves, he believes she has already understood, but is unwilling to accept: "What you're doing doesn't make any sense. I won't change my mind because of this either. So leave, and don't come back again. Even if you do come, I won't see you."
"Why are you doing this?" The cat asked him with clenched fists, but Liang Chen didn't say a word and remained silent with his head hung low.
After a long silence, she took a deep breath: "Although I don't know why Liang Chen wants to say such things, I won't give up. Even if you say so, I will still follow my own thoughts and we will never leave you... even if you want to get rid of us, it's not possible."
The cat looked at him one last time, "What I want to convey is just this, no matter whether you understand or not, I will persist. I'll go first."
The good times in silence finally lifted his head, looking at the cat that was about to turn around, she wore a thin shirt, her lips were slightly pale, her slender body looked like it was trembling with fear, but her fists were still tightly clenched, refusing to let go.
Just as she was about to reach the door, she suddenly felt a pair of hands on her shoulders and stopped in her tracks, turning around to look at him in surprise.
Li Chen draped the black coat over her, her delicate face still expressionless, but her eyes welled up with moisture. A moment later, he averted his gaze: "You've always wondered why, haven't you?"
"Mm." The cat puckered up her lips.
"I'm telling you."
