Chapter 19: The Script

  Voice Actor's Road

  ~~~~~Having played so many roles, have you ever been in a split personality?~~~~~
  After returning from the recording studio, Yuuka's emotions have been unstable. She really wants to pull Sugita and ask her about the countless questions in her heart, but it's hard for her to clearly express them in words. Many things, Yuuka understands that she needs to practice persistently to achieve the results, but she still really wants to know how her seniors did so well.
  Sugita's part was very small, and after finishing his lines, he left the recording studio with everyone. Although Yuka had wanted to greet a few seniors she had met before, this time there really wasn't any time. Thinking that there would definitely be many opportunities to meet in the future, Yuka could only give up for now.
  Sugita looked at the excited younger generation, but he didn't know where to start. Suddenly, he remembered his own nightmare-like experience of voice acting with his seniors in the past.
  Back then, I was only 19 years old and had a low voice, so I was cast as a character with a managerial position, but the subordinates who were shouting orders around me were all seniors, that feeling was really particularly thrilling.
  Fortunately, the seniors took special care of themselves, and that recording was completed without any surprises. Perhaps because this experience gave Sugita a particularly deep impression, he also took good care of his younger juniors under the age of 20. His shameless attributes would never be revealed in front of underage juniors, after all, seniors should have the demeanor of seniors.
  Sugita didn't say much and let those junior colleagues excitedly return all the way.
  Meanwhile, another group of trainees who had returned from a recording studio tour also came back to the company around the same time. For a while, the two groups of people enthusiastically discussed and completely couldn't hold down their high spirits.
  "Hey, I was asked by Ishida-senpai today!" Seki got out of the car and walked into the company, starting to talk to Sugita, "Didn't that girl who read the menu join your company? How did you manage to take her away? It's clear our side is a better fit for her, so next time bring her over, okay?"
  "Huh?" Sugita was also surprised. The Ishida he knew wasn't that kind of enthusiastic person, "Just how much does Ishida like this kid's voice?"
  "The more you like it, the more I like it, and the more he likes it." Kōichi pointed to Sugita, then pointed to himself.
  "Hmm..." Sugita shook his head helplessly, a faint, indescribable smile appearing on his normally expressionless face. "For some reason, I suddenly miss Maya."
  "What's wrong with that? They just got married, they didn't go to fight on another planet." Koji glanced at Sugita and thought what he said was too ominous.
  "Sugita-senpai, Seki-shacho." Just as the two were saying this, Yuuka slowly walked over and called out softly, as if her voice would startle these two seniors.
  "Ah, jam, how are you feeling today? Has this group of guys scared you?" Guan Zhiyi immediately changed the subject and turned to smile.
  "It's not that I'm scared, it's just that I'm really shocked. I always feel like there's still so much for me to learn. Even if I were given a role as an extra now, I might not be able to handle it."
  "Is that so? I'll give the role of that passerby in Shinju no Nana to someone else then." Seki Tomokazu pulled out a notebook from his bag and waved it around in front of Yuuka.
  "This is..." Yu Guo tilted her head, trying to make out the English on the book. But Kan Chi's hand moved too quickly, and she only managed to catch a few Ps and Ss.
  "Do you want it?" Seki Kazuki raised an eyebrow, grasping the notebook with both hands, holding it flat and placing it against his chest. "If you do, then call out."
  Sugita's expression didn't change, but his complexion did. He glanced at Seki Tomokazu and then turned to look at Yuka with a worried expression.
  "Hmm..." Yu Guo bit her lip, though somewhat hesitant, she still stretched out her hand, "Guan senior, please let me try the soy sauce once!"
  "Has potential!" Kōichi ignored Sugita's scornful gaze and handed the script to Yuka, "There are only two lines of dialogue, do your best."
  "Yes! Senior Guan!" Youguo took the script and opened it directly. She saw that Guan Zhongyi had carefully circled the soy sauce lines with a red pen, and she spotted them at a glance.
  "Let's go." Kōichi Minamoto saw Yuka staring intently and didn't disturb her either. He patted Sugita on the shoulder and dragged him away.
  Kanji Itsuki's script for Yuka was episodes 1-6, and her role just so happened to be a young male teacher with two lines in episode 6.
  After returning home, Yūka first went through the plot to get a general idea. Although this didn't have much significance for her voice acting role, being able to get in touch with the plot more was still good.
  This futuristic police story was quite dark, and Yu Guo had a cold sweat as she read it on this hot summer day. She put down the script, pushed open the window, and let the gentle evening breeze of the summer day blow into the room.
  "It is precisely because humans are superior to animals, in other words, humans have self-awareness and spirit, that they can experience despair. Those who do not understand despair will never have hope."
  What Yuka recited was not her own lines, but the lines of another important character in the play. She was a beautiful murderer, unfortunately, her ending, Yuka currently does not know.
  "People who don't understand despair will never have hope." Yu Guo repeated it again, savoring the meaning of the sentence, and suddenly felt a little uneasy.
  She accidentally entered this circle, and whether it brought hope or despair to her life, she still doesn't know.
  "Who is it?" Just then, a voice for justice accompanied by the sound of knocking on the door appeared.
  "What's wrong, brother?" Youguo hastily walked to the door and opened it.
  "Ah, just asking, how's your training going lately?" Zhengyi bent down, looking at his own sister.
  "Smooth sailing. By the way, have you found a job recently?" Youguo smiled and looked at Seigi's suit, knowing that he must have gone for an interview today as well.
  "Found it." Justice nodded and walked into Yūka's room with a tilt of his head, "Huh, you've already got a character."
  The script was placed on Yūko's desk, standing out particularly among a pile of colorful reference books.
  "Hmm, but there are only two lines of dialogue, and maybe even ED won't appear with a name." Yuka picked up the script, she wanted to show it to Masaki, but then thought that this anime hasn't aired yet, so it's still a secret for now, and put it down again. "Brother, what kind of job are you looking for? A regular company employee?"
  "It's still a game company." Justice scratched the back of his head and looked down, seemingly not daring to meet his own sister's gaze.
  "That's great, brother! You'd better do well, who knows, maybe we'll collaborate again in the future!" Yūka looked up at her older brother with a hopeful expression. "It's best if it's an otome game, I can work with Sugita-san and Tomohisa-san again!"
  "Haha, really?" Zhengyi thought his sister would still despise him for being unemployed like before, but now that they're all in the ACG circle...
  "By the way, brother, do you have an O-soul DVD? I haven't seen Sugita-senpai's representative work yet, and it feels like a loss of manners." Yuuka thought that since there was still time, she could catch up on a few episodes of old anime.
  "Sugita Tomoaki, you'd better start with Honey and Clover for his works." Masayoshi still didn't want his cute little sister to come into contact with that kind of work.
  "It's okay." Yu Guo didn't know what her brother was thinking, but she nodded and accepted his suggestion.
  ==============================================================================
  "Yu Guo, get up and have breakfast." Being able to call his own sister to wake her up made Zheng Yi suddenly feel a few inches taller. When he used to work odd jobs, he didn't need to get up this early to catch the bus.
  "Got it!" Yūka muttered, her voice muffled. She pushed open the door, her eyes puffy and red. "Brother, do you think I'm presentable today?"
  "You didn't stay up all night to finish two seasons of anime, did you?" Masayoshi took one look at Yuuka and knew she must have been so moved by the plot that she couldn't stop.
  "No, I haven't even finished the first season yet. It's just that I cried too much and my eyes are swollen." Yūko covered her eyes and explained, "Hurry up and get me some ice packs, brother, I don't want to go to the company like this!"
  "Good!" Zhengyi hastily went downstairs and brought up an ice pack for Youguo.
  Eating breakfast while applying an ice pack, it's at least reduced the swelling a bit. Although it still looks quite painful, Youguo didn't have any other choice, she couldn't afford to miss class. Moreover, she was about to get a voice acting opportunity soon.
  Arriving at the company, Yu Guo lowered her head and walked into the classroom. She didn't want to be seen by too many people in her ugly state. Sitting down at her seat, Yu Guo immediately picked up a textbook and covered her face with it.
  Sitting in the classroom with glass partitions, Yuuka looked up to see if the teacher had entered, but instead saw Sugita and Tomoki passing by shoulder to shoulder. She suddenly remembered the gentle man from last night's anime. Although Sugita-senpai always has a poker face in real life, he is unexpectedly kind.
  Especially yesterday, if he hadn't worn those slippers, his own face would have been lost to Tokyo Bay.
  Sugita senpai would definitely look cool if he wore glasses!
  For some reason, Yu Guo suddenly imagined it herself, and she felt a warmth in her heart, as if something gentle and sweet had melted in her chest.
  "I'm telling you, Director Kanji, although he's just a soy sauce character, but to pair Mizuki-chan with such a dark work as soon as she arrives, is that okay?" Tomoki said while walking, glancing sideways into the classroom. "Look at Mizuki-chan's face today, it's all swollen, she must have been scared by the script last night."
  "Huh?" Kōji didn't notice at first, but when he turned his head around, he saw Yūka with a flushed face and red eyes. "Hm? Is this kid under too much pressure or something? Guess she's still too green after all, Yūka-chan!"
  "Hmm..." Sugita nodded in agreement, "It's probably better if she's paired with DT, DT..."
  "DT!" Kanzaki's face changed in an instant, and a ambiguous smile spread across his face.
  "Hey, Guan Ershao, don't think too much about it, or you'll be accused of sexual harassment." You Shu reminded kindly, of course, he didn't want such a good sister to be tainted by the industry's number one lecher...
