Chapter Eighty-Seven
As I watched him walk further and further away, his figure was blocked by the green shade. Only then did I turn around, push open the door and walk into the yard. I saw Grandpa holding an iron shovel in the yard, busily digging a hole, as if he hadn't noticed my return. He was bent over, sweating profusely, and it seemed that the shout I had heard outside the yard earlier wasn't from his mouth.
If it were an ordinary day, I think I would have rushed over to greet Grandpa with a big smile on my face. However, having just had a fight with the fox and not knowing if he's back yet, I'm afraid that if Grandpa asks me about it, I'll reveal my weakness and make him angry.
Before he turned his head back, I quietly walked towards the direction of the back door, seeing that I was only a few steps away from it, and soon I would be entering the house, and couldn't help but feel secretly pleased.
"Lotus in Summer Clearness."
The pitch suddenly rose high, and Grandpa had already discovered me without knowing when. He cursed in his heart, and the hand that had just touched the door lock was withdrawn again.
"What's wrong, Grandpa?"
I tried to calm down and asked Grandpa with a smile, just like I usually did when I got home from school.
He dropped the iron shovel in his hand, turned around, frowned and asked: "Why are you the only one who came back? Where is Lord Hu Xian? Why didn't he come back with you?"
The fox hasn't come back yet? How is it possible, this is really the first time I've heard of it.
"Hasn't Lord Hu Xian returned yet? I thought he had already come back, but it turns out he hasn't!"
I forced a smile and hid the unease in my heart.
On ordinary days, he would send me past the chaotic tombs and then abandon me, rushing back alone. This time, since he didn't come back, could it be that I said a few unpleasant words to him and he ran off like this? No way, this doesn't seem like his style of doing things.
"Have you done something stupid again and scared off Lord Fox Spirit?"
Grandfather glared at me with one eye, staring at me angrily.
I reckon if I nod a bit, he'll come after me with an iron shovel and beat me up.
"No, no." I shook my head. "I don't have the guts to offend him. He's probably already back home alone and is likely sleeping soundly in his room right now. Grandfather shouldn't think too much about it, I'll go check his room now and see if he's hiding inside without coming out."
"Really?"
Grandpa looked at me with suspicion on his face.
"It's definitely so, don't think too much about it."
I nodded hastily and repeatedly.
Now, hiding for a while is just for a while. If the fox is really not in the house, then I can only escape and go to Xiao Su's home to stay for a few days before coming back.
"Alright, hurry up and call him out. And, why did you come back so late today? Dinner hasn't even been made yet."
He said, giving me a white eye.
"Alright, I'll go now."
I pushed the back door open and walked in, not having time to throw my school bag into the room, I ran to the fox's door, because I had scolded him a few words before, now I still felt a little guilty, so after thinking for a while, I still knocked gently.
"Hey, Fox, are you in there?"
After a while, there was no sound coming from inside. I leaned in close to the door and concentrated my mind to listen carefully, but still didn't hear even a faint sound coming from inside.
He wouldn't have really been driven away by me, would he?
As soon as this idea came out, unexpectedly, I didn't feel a bit happy in my heart, but instead, there was a hint of worry, worrying that Grandpa would get angry and lose his temper, worrying that in the future, I would have to get rid of Xiao Su again when I went home.
