Chapter 22 Memories
From this moment on, two voices spread throughout the class. One was betting that Xing Yue Princess would win, and the other was betting that Yi Yan Princess would win. The loser would have to clean the toilets for a month.
Ling Yu Xue watched with great interest as the "competition" unfolded. How would Yi Yan make the famous socialite disappear?
The warm summer breeze gently blew against the grass and flowers by the roadside, soothing them like a gentle caress. A small girl was crying softly on the side of the road, her voice clear but her sobs still audible.
"What's wrong?" a small boy asked, handing her a tissue.
The little girl took the tissue and cried, "Mommy doesn't love me anymore! It was my sister's fault, but she scolded me instead!" The little girl sniffled as she spoke.
"Don't cry," the boy said, his eyes shining with kindness. "My mom says that girls who cry won't be pretty when they grow up!"
The little girl half-believed him and wiped away her tears. "Really?"
"Yes! If you don't cry from now on, you'll be my princess - the most beautiful one!" The boy smiled, holding a small bag in his hand.
"Really? Then you're my prince!" The little girl's face lit up with a smile. She then asked, "Brother, what's that bag for?"
The boy looked mysterious and whispered to her, "It's to listen to the wind's voice!"
"The wind's voice?" The little girl pointed to the rustling sound around them. "Isn't that the wind's voice now?"
"Hehe, I'll tell you a secret! There's a fairy in the wind, and she sings songs inside this bag!" The boy said confidently.
"Really?" The little girl still looked uncertain but took the bag from him. "Hmm, there's no sound coming from it..."
"You have to hold it tight, put it against your ear, close your eyes, and listen carefully." The boy guided her as he placed the bag against her ear.
"Wow! I really heard it! The melody is so beautiful!" The little girl looked enchanted.
"This will be our promise from now on. Okay?" The boy smiled.
"What promise?" The little girl still looked puzzled.
"When we grow up, I'll come find you and make you my princess. You just have to hold this bag against my ear and let me hear the wind's song, and I'll protect you forever!" The boy's eyes shone with determination.
"Really?"
The boy nodded. "This song will be called 'Summer Breeze'. We must remember it and never forget!"
"'Summer Breeze' brother, I won't forget! Let's make a promise!" The little girl hooked her pinky finger around his: "If we break our promise, we'll turn into dogs!"
As the wind blew again, Yi Yan sat in the same spot where she had cried as a child. She gazed out at the distance and whispered, "Brother, did you forget our promise? You said I'd be your princess, and you'd protect me forever..."
Yi Yan smiled wryly to herself. Who would remember such a childish promise anyway? Maybe her brother had already left the city. Maybe he had forgotten about the little girl who cried in the park.
With a sigh, Yi Yan stood up and left, leaving behind only the rustling sound of the wind, whispering their promise - 'Summer Breeze'.
