Chapter Eighteen's Grievance
When I woke up, the sky was already bright, and footsteps were heard in the corridor. I hastily got up from the sofa and rushed to my desk. Fortunately, my research report was still intact in a transparent file folder. I stretched out my hand and carefully flipped through it. Okay, everything is fine.
My tense heart slowly relaxed, it seems that my luck isn't always that bad, misfortune will eventually forget about me.
The sunlight shines in, illuminating the table opposite, warm and comforting, like a candle in the darkness, or a large wipe for the soul. The originally gloomy and depressed heart suddenly sparkles with light.
It's a great morning, I took a deep breath, yesterday's sorrow has passed, and I'm going to make the most of today. I comforted myself in my heart and also secretly encouraged myself.
Colleagues came one after another, the high heels of female colleagues tapping on the floor, while male colleagues rubbed their eyes, like a bear that had just awakened from hibernation and walked out of its den.
"Hey, it's early." Zhang Xin, holding a meat pie in both hands, ran over with her two slender legs in high heels and greeted me.
"Never mind, I didn't go back last night because I was rushing to finish the research report." I rubbed my slightly tired cheeks and said.
"Is that so?" Zhang Xin raised her beautiful almond-shaped eyes, with sparkling lights flashing in the black pupils, and then said sympathetically: "You're really having a hard time."
After finishing speaking, she lowered her pretty face and started nibbling on a meat pie.
I suddenly envied her, if I had her delicate skin, slender and sexy figure, how good it would be.
But I, shrinking back in shame, suddenly shriveled up like a silk nightgown that had been scalded with hot water.
Although I can't see my own reflection now, I clearly feel that the small eyeballs wrapped in puffy eyes must be dull at this moment, and how can my collapsed nose bridge compare with Zhang Xin's high and straight nose? My lips must be very tasteless, will they look like two lifeless worms lying there? And its color is definitely grayish white. Just like an ugly girl in a dream?
Thinking so, I subconsciously bit my lip with my teeth, and a faint salty taste came to the tip of my tongue. Suddenly, I remembered that I hadn't washed up yet.
Colleagues have not arrived yet, I quickly walked to the bathroom, as soon as I entered the bathroom, I saw the image reflected in the mirror on the wall and found that it was not as bad as I imagined earlier.
As she was admiring herself, Aunt Xǔ's image emerged from the mirror, walking in with a bowed back and pulling a mop.
Is she the ugly girl ghost in the dream? Is there any connection between them?
I stole a glance at her in the mirror, her skin was yellowish with some blackness, somewhat similar to Meng Po's skin. Her mouth had no blood color or elasticity, but it was still different from that of an ugly girl. Her eyes were cast down, and her eyelids drooped, making it difficult to see her pupils clearly. I pretended to bend down to pick up something, lowering my head, trying to get a clear look at her eyes.
Never expected her to suddenly raise her head, a pair of sparkling eyes met mine in a four-eyed confrontation.
I was embarrassed and flustered, hastily calling out: "Hey, Auntie Xu, sweeping the floor?"
"Hmm." Auntie Xu gave me a sharp glance with her eyes, then immediately lowered her head and buried her eyes again.
"Uh, I'll just go wash my face." I muttered, and then turned on the faucet as if on cue. A stream of clear water flowed out.
"Who is so shameless!" A sudden angry scolding came from Auntie Xu's mouth, I turned around in surprise, and Auntie Xu was panting with rage as she scrubbed the water tank next to her, "And still wearing a white collar, I think they're not even as good as street sweepers, dressing up like humans but doing things that are far inferior!"
"What's going on, Aunt Xǔ?" I asked cautiously.
"Look, look, who is this? How shameless! Not even a kid would dump trash into the water tank! Look, there's tea leaves and chewing gum too! How can you have no morals at all!"
"Goodness gracious, who did this?" I poked my head out and saw that the water pool next to me was clogged with tea leaves and chewing gum, filling up a whole pool of water.
"Alas, this job can't be done anymore. This boss is always closing his eyes to the fact that these people have no quality, and only knows how to deduct money. From morning till night, he's always finding fault with something not being clean here or there, and uses it as an excuse to deduct money. You're really a stingy boss! Just looking at him makes me think he's a ghost who died of starvation!" Aunt Xǔ's waxen face was shrouded in anger, and her words struck right at my heart.
"Is that so? Does the boss also deduct your money? I thought he only disliked me, yesterday he deducted 200 yuan from me and asked me to compensate twice for the loss of the fire yesterday. He's simply a capitalist who exploits people. To be honest, I don't like the boss either, but what can we do? We rely on others for food and are controlled by them, after all, they have money." I feel like I've met someone who understands me, it's quite relatable.
"Hmph! I don't care about his little broken money, to be honest, I've had enough of this place, he's really gotten on my nerves, and when the time comes, I'll fight him to the death!"
"I don't dare, I still rely on this salary, I think this environment is too oppressive, it's just like the White Terror of the Nationalist Party era, no human rights, let alone respect. It's really incomprehensible, are we poor people just slaves to their rich people? Can bosses just be above us and do as they please?"
I was just indulging in my addiction when the door to the men's restroom suddenly swung open. With a loud "clang", both I and Mrs. Xu instinctively turned our gaze towards that forbidden place, the men's toilet.
Good heavens! Who else could be coming out from behind the cream-colored door but the boss?
