Chapter 7: The Cheating Scandal

  Chapter 7: The Cheating Scandal

Although Wan Chao Hui rejected Lin Bo Yang's pursuit, she treasured his letter at the bottom of her drawer. For any boy who had pursued Wan Chao Hui, after a brief observation, she could make a decisive judgment about him and exclude him from her selection range. Only Lin Bo Yang was placed in the position of a good friend by Wan Chao Hui, but actually, she felt a little guilty and didn't know why she still had a hidden expectation for him in her heart, hoping that he would become perfect like the ideal lover in her dreams without her having to remind or force him. If such a day really came, perhaps it would be the fate between her and him.

Time flies, and the first semester of college is about to turn the page. The final exams are coming up, and Liu Hui and her friends have to focus on getting credits after playing around all semester. As for Wan Chao Hui, she hasn't actually put much thought into her studies this semester, but instead has been immersed in reading world classics.

In order to pass the exam and get credits, so as not to retake it next year, Wan Chao Hui still forced himself to memorize a lot of book knowledge by rote.

The last week before the exam, teachers made time for students to review. Wan Chao Hui followed his own study plan and diligently memorized theoretical concepts. His deskmate Liu Hui was even more diligent, writing with her head down. At first, Wan Chao Hui didn't notice her and thought Liu Hui had calmed down and was studying hard. But it was Liu Hui who couldn't help but laugh at Wan Chao Hui: "Chao Hui, I sometimes think you're really stupid!"

"I've never admitted to being smart in front of you!" Wan Chao Hui replied with a smile.

"Alright, you're implying something, you're being sarcastic towards me!" Liu Hui was also quick-witted and immediately picked up on Wan Chao Hui's tone.

"I said you're silly, not in any other way, but that sometimes you take things too seriously. Look at you, actually studying and taking notes!" Liu Hui pointed to the books and notebooks on Wan Chao Hui's desk, with a helpless expression.

"Don't talk about me being serious, you're the one who's been burying your head in books and trying to scrape by for the exam!"

"I'm not as serious about reading books as you are! Let me show you!" Liu Hui said, handing over the paper she had been copying at her desk to Wan Zhaohui.

"What is this! The dense handwriting, can you see clearly? What's the use of it!" Wan Chao Hui carefully looked at the note handed to her by Liu Hui, "Oh...... You're not planning to cheat on the exam, are you?"

"Miss, can you keep your voice down? Do you want the teacher to hear?" Liu Hui immediately covered Wan Zhaohui's belated surprised cry to avoid attracting the teacher.

"Liu Hui, you're really bold, cheating on the exam. What if you get caught?" Wan Chao Hui asked in a low voice, pulling away Liu Hui's hand.

"Our school's exams are not that strict and serious, trust me, I won't be wrong, I won't harm you!" Liu Hui said confidently.

"Hmm, I didn't cheat, but got caught by the teacher, how embarrassing! I'd better just honestly recite my lessons!" Wan Chao Hui continued to review his textbook without being shaken at all.

"Kindness is met with ingratitude, forget I said that, you can just foolishly read your book!" Liu Hui pouted and glared at Wan Chao Hui, who looked back at her nonchalantly and continued reading his book.

The first subject of the exam was "Philosophy". Wan Zhaohui memorized a thick book according to the teacher's outline, and although the philosophy textbook was confusing, fortunately, Wan Zhaohui's comprehension was not bad, understanding part of it and memorizing part of it, so getting 60 points should be no problem.

The philosophical invigilator is the class teacher He Lingling. This semester, Wan Chao Hui has been disobedient to He Lingling, in her eyes, He Lingling is just a vase, and what makes her even more disdainful is that He Lingling, an English teacher, has fallen in love with a school maintenance worker, just because he is a local, has a house, and is very attentive to her. What kind of romance is this? Wan Chao Hui thinks He Lingling has no backbone at all.

The exam is one person per seat, the distance between the tables is very open. Before the start of the exam, classmates put all books and review materials into the drawer according to the requirements of their class teacher, He Lingling.

Wan Chao Hui spent an hour filling out the test paper with the knowledge she had hastily memorized. It seemed that this test was a bit off, and the main knowledge points on the outline didn't account for about 80% as the teacher had previously estimated. Wan Chao Hui checked her test paper again, thinking that 60 points should be no problem, but she wasn't quite sure. What if the teacher gave fewer points in the final question? 60 points would be a bit dangerous then.

Wan Chao Hui felt a sense of urgency in her heart. She looked up to glance at her classmates on either side and was shocked to see that they all had small pieces of paper in their hands, with dense writing covering the test papers. Even the class monitor and study committee member not far away were cheating, while Class President He Lingling walked back and forth as if nothing was wrong, clearly turning a blind eye to the students' cheating.

Wan Chao Hui thought to herself: It seems Liu Hui was right, I really am stupid. She began to feel resentful and started thinking about the books in her drawer. It seemed she would also have to cheat, copying down more answers. If she didn't pass, it wouldn't be worth it.

Wan Chao Hui secretly took out the philosophy textbook from under her desk and looked for answers to the questions on the exam, she felt like a thief, very hypocritical. He Lingling was also strange, clearly knowing but pretending not to see, walking back and forth in the examination room, monitoring with pretence. Wan Chao Hui simply put the textbook on the table and openly copied, finishing early so she could leave early.

"Wan Chao Hui, what are you doing?" He Lingling walked in front of Wan Chao Hui and asked with a slightly serious tone.

"What's wrong with you?" she said, confiscating Wan Chao Hui's textbook and putting it on the podium. Wan Chao Hui looked at her discontentedly, "Why are you only picking on me?"

When Wan Chao Hui's textbook was confiscated, some timid classmates immediately put away the small pieces of paper in their hands, but the bold ones continued to cheat. The timid classmates saw He Lingling start to pretend to be nonchalant and look around, and they immediately felt at ease, continuing to sneak a peek at the small pieces of paper in their hands.

Wan Chao Hui took everything in, she inexplicably stared at Class Monitor Ling Ling who was walking around everywhere. She clearly saw that everyone was cheating, so why did they only catch her? Why couldn't they get along with her? The more she thought about it, the more indignant she became. Wan Chao Hui then took out the philosophy outline materials from the drawer and continued to copy them onto the desk.

Before long, He Lingling quietly walked to the front of Wan Chao Hui and took away the review outline materials in her hand, placing them on the podium.

Then, He Lingling walked and said in her "Lin Meimei" tone: "Your cheating level is not high at all, after the exam, find someone to teach you!"

Wan Chao heard her speak, and his heart was annoyed. He Lingling knew that everyone was cheating, why did she only confiscate my book? Now, in front of all the classmates, she says such a cold word! What does it mean! It's simply boring to the extreme!

Wan Zhaohui could no longer bear it and simply gathered his stationery and schoolbag, becoming the first to walk up to the podium to hand in his exam paper.

"Take all your textbooks back!" He Lingling whispered to Wan Chao Hui, while other book friends were watching.

Wan Chao Hui gave her a cold glance, stuffed his textbook into his backpack and quickly walked towards the classroom door. As he was about to leave, Wan Chao Hui suddenly threw out a sentence: "Head teacher, actually - you're not that great either!" After saying that, he left without looking back, leaving behind what he thought was a gloomy and suffocating place!

The subject of the afternoon exam was English 3. Wan Zhaohui rushed to school five minutes before the start of the exam, her high school English foundation was solid, and she had confidence in this college exam. As expected, without much effort, she easily completed the test paper with a confident feeling that she would pass without any problem. Without waiting for Liu Hui and others to come out, Wan Zhaohui went home on her own because she had prepared an all-nighter to memorize the Political Science subject for the next day's exam, mainly because the invigilating teacher of this subject was He Lingling again, and Wan Zhaohui did not want to do anything that would hurt her self-esteem in front of her.

At 8 o'clock in the evening, Liu Hui called. "Chaohui, how can you be so irresponsible? You dropped that sentence and left, He Lingling was furious, her face turned bright red, everyone was discussing it, tomorrow's 'Thoughts on Politics' is ruined, He Lingling will definitely guard the rules strictly, she won't show mercy to us again, we're all doomed because of you. I haven't even flipped through the textbook for Thoughts on Politics, how can I pass tomorrow? You're usually so calm and collected, why are you stirring up trouble at such a critical moment? You're too irresponsible towards us!" Liu Hui kept scolding non-stop.

"Are you done yet? Aren't you going to sit next to me tomorrow anyway? At worst, I'll just give you the answers!" Wan Zhaohui said lightly, from getting home till now, she had spent all her energy on memorizing books except for a minute when she went to eat. With one more all-nighter, she would have no problem reciting the entire book, and her ability to take notes was exceptionally strong.

"That's great! Alas, it's still not possible. You're amazing at giving me multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions, but what about short-answer and essay questions? What am I supposed to do?" Liu Hui was still worried!

"You're really annoying, if it doesn't work out, I'll just switch the test papers with He Lingling when she's not paying attention, and I'll directly help you answer them. That should be fine, right? Besides, who is Liu Hui anyway? A lucky person! You have a good destiny, heaven will bless you!" Wan Chao Hui said jokingly.

"This is just about right!" Liu Hui was indeed serious. "You'd better be more restrained in the future, I understand you, if it were someone who didn't know you, they would think you especially like to show off! And this time you offended He Lingling, in the future you'll have a good outcome, just wait and see!" Liu Hui was indeed quite nagging, but Wan Chao Hui still appreciated her concern.

"Thank you, I know!" Wan Chao Hui perfunctorily hung up the phone and began to study diligently.

The next day's Ideology and Politics exam, Wan Zhaohui finished the test paper in 40 minutes. She thought to herself that it wouldn't be a problem to get at least 85 points. Just as she was about to hand in her answers to Liu Hui beside her, she found out that this little scoundrel was cheating again by peeking at the book with a sly expression. Wan Zhaohui glanced at He Lingling who was patrolling around and felt that she seemed more relaxed than yesterday's proctor. After walking two rounds, she even turned to face the window, gazing at the distant view.

Liu Hui just asked Wan Chao Hui to help her with the multiple-choice questions and fill-in-the-blank questions, as she had already found the answers to the short-answer questions and essay questions in her textbook. Seeing He Lingling's change, Wan Chao Hui's heart softened, feeling that there was no need to show off in front of her, and decided to follow his usual principle of not offending others if they didn't offend him. So he waited until some classmates had finished their tests before standing up, walking to the podium to hand in his test paper, and then quietly left the classroom.

That night, Liu Hui called again. "Zao Hui, do you know? Today, all the classmates said they wanted to thank you. Yesterday, you and He Lingling had a big fight, it seemed like she had an epiphany, today when supervising us, she was much more relaxed, paper slips were flying everywhere, but she pretended not to see! It's so cool!" Liu Hui spoke rapidly, through the receiver, Wan Zao Hui could already feel her "machine gun-like" mouth.

"Miss, what did you say about me yesterday? You're really a chameleon!" Wan Zhaohui shook his head and said helplessly.

"I've always been straightforward, so don't take it to heart!" Liu Hui said cleverly. She had always thought that Wan Chao Hui was sharp-tongued but soft-hearted, and still quite easy to coax.

"How could I bother with you? I was just casually saying it, it's getting late, I studied all night yesterday and now I'm sleepy, so I won't chat with you anymore!" Wan Chao Hui replied with a smile. Suddenly, a strong thought arose in Wan Chao Hui's mind: Liu Hui is someone who can joke around and have fun together, but absolutely not a close friend or confidant, just like Zheng Hong Xia!
