Chapter 21: What Happened Before I Was Eight Years Old

Chapter 21: What Happened Before I Was Eight Years Old

"How did you get the talisman of the Dongfang family on your hand?" Yuan Yiqin looked up and asked, staring at Beinan with an unfriendly face.

"God knows." She threw out three words very uncooperatively.

Just now when the talisman paper was thrown out, it's likely that only Lu Zhuang could recognize at a glance that it was a talisman paper from the renowned demon-expelling family, Dongfang.

Yuan Yiqin initially thought it was just a talisman with some slight power, but for Beinan, there were too many uncertain factors about her, and it wasn't surprising that she would have an exorcism talisman on hand.

But never would have thought, these talismans were actually from the Dongfang family.

"You can't possibly have any connection with the Dong family." Yuan Yiqin said very affirmatively.

At least when he investigated Benan's past, there was no connection between her and the Dongfang family, more importantly, the Dongfang family had moved abroad decades ago. Even if the power of the Bei family was mobilized, it would not be possible to establish a relationship with the Dongfang family, let alone get them to give out these valuable talismans so generously.

Yuan Yiqin stood up from his chair, walked to Bei Nan's face with big strides, slightly lowered his head and looked at the icy face that was suppressing anger, and asked seriously: "Tell me, where did you get these talismans? What is your relationship with the Dongfang family?"

His tone carried a strong 'urge' to ask, making Benan feel slightly oppressed, but because of the dissatisfaction in her heart, she pretended to be stupid with an expressionless face and refused to speak.

"Nothing can be investigated about her before she was eight years old. Is it related to this?" Officer Liu muttered softly.

Before the age of eight, no matter how hard they tried to investigate, they couldn't find a single hair. And from the age of eight until now, there is not a shred of information that can be investigated about Benan and the Dongfang family being connected.

Officer Liu suddenly thought of that thing.

Yuan Yiqin was taken aback for a moment before he came back to his senses. After some thought, he also felt somewhat uncertain in his heart.

"What happened before you were eight years old? Why can't anything about you be found out before you were eight?" he asked Benan.

Things before I was eight years old...

  Benan's expression was somewhat dazed.

Just as they were at a stalemate, the phone on the office desk rang. Officer Liu answered it and hung up with some excitement, saying: "Jia Mucun's prison visit permit has been issued, we can go visit him anytime."

Upon hearing this, Bei Nan's expression suddenly revealed joy. The next second, Yuan Yi Qin's icy voice came crashing over: "If you still want to go see Jia Mu Cheng, then tell me honestly."

At this moment, he can only threaten her in such a despicable way. Apart from Xiao Xi's matter being her untouchable taboo, other matters should be able to be 'forced' a bit.

Bei Nan gritted his teeth and stared at Yuan Yiqin's eyes, which were filled with anger.

"Yuan Yiqin, must you threaten me like this?"

"I have no choice, if this is what it takes to get you to tell the truth, then I'll do it. Sorry." A flicker of guilt flashed across Yuan Yiqin's eyes, he didn't want to do this to her, but he had no other option. Now, as long as there was even a sliver of an opportunity to gain advantageous information, he would spare no effort in expanding on that opportunity, so as to obtain more information.

Benan Qi's whole body trembled with rage, but after a while she compromised, just like a hedgehog that had been caught by the throat and retracted its prickly spines, even though it was very reluctant in its heart.

"I don't remember anything before I was eight years old. My mom said I got into a car accident and hit my head, so I lost my memory. Even if you interrogate me, I won't be able to give you any answers. As for what happened when I was a kid, I have no idea. If you can't investigate it, then you should ask the Bai family about it. It's probably because something happened when I was a kid and they covered it up." Bei Nan said coldly.

He then said, "I don't know anything about the Eastern family. From high school on, I would receive a package from abroad every year, and inside were these 'miscellaneous' things for driving out demons. Don't ask me who sent it, I don't know. Looking at those little notes written to me, I can be sure that the other person is probably a woman, but nothing else."

One question and three unknowns, it's not her fault either, she has been living in a state of confusion all along.

She can't remember anything before she was eight years old. She had also tried to investigate, but the results were all in vain. The only thing that can be confirmed is that the Bai family has hidden the truth.

What is it that needs to be hidden and buried, and the Be family's awkward attitude towards themselves, all of which made Bei Nan very puzzled, with an inexplicable feeling in her heart. It was precisely because of this that she had always been lukewarm towards the people of the Be family, even when smiling, it was a cold smile that didn't reach her eyes.

Benan's answer is of little value.

Looking at her determined eyes, Yuan Yiqin believed she was not lying, and his cold expression slightly eased.

"It seems things are getting interesting." Lu Zhuang leaned against the edge of the table, his chin sinking into contemplation.

"Don't you remember anything from before you were eight? Have you gone to the hospital for a check-up?" Yuan Yiqin asked with some discontent.

Bei Nan's anger had slightly subsided, and he shook his head in response: "Occasionally, there are some incomplete fragments, but every time I try to capture them, they disappear. Over the years, those fragmented memories have been insufficient for me to recall past events. I've also 'privately' investigated the matter, but the results were not optimistic. I've been to the hospital several times, and the doctors all say that my brain was injured, compressing nerves which led to memory loss."

Benan's tone was inexplicably somewhat weak: "I myself am living in a state of confusion, so don't ask me about those things, I don't know either."

"Why didn't you tell me about this earlier?" Yuan Yiqin's face was tense and looked very displeased.

Benan looked at him with some impatience: "Have you ever asked me? I don't think this has anything to do with those murder cases. You just want to find evidence and arrest me as soon as possible, right?"

"I think it was not you who killed Shao Yiyin and the others, you wouldn't do such a thing."

"That's not my Xiao Xi either." She said with a firm face.

When it comes to Xiao Xi, Yuan Yiqin reacted and stretched out his hand to grab Xiao Xi from Bei Nan's arms and threw her to Lu Zhuang.

"Yuan Yi Qin!" Be Nan was furious and ran over to try to grab it back, but was blocked by Yuan Yi Qin.

"As long as we confirm that the doll is fine, we will naturally return it to you. Or are you feeling guilty?" Facing Yuan Yiqin's aggressive words, Bei Nan fiercely raised his arm and punched him in the stomach.

Yuan Yi Qin's face turned pale, enduring the pain, he reached out with his hand to grab Bei Nan's hand and pulled her into his arms, restricting her movements.

"Give me some peace and quiet, or I'll destroy the doll right now, and you won't even get to see Jia Mucun in prison." He growled angrily.
