Arrogant and self-righteous
Standing outside the door of the law enforcement department, I still feel like I'm in a daze, and haven't come back to reality yet.
Inexplicably, I got involved in this murder case and inexplicably became a disciple of Gao Cheng. Oh, that "master" who got me into this inexplicable situation is now inside the door, saying he wants to "pay respects" to the deceased's body.
Before he stepped through the door, he invited me to go in with him with a very sincere expression, but I refused. Going to the murder scene at midnight was already beyond my limit, and asking me to "visit" those corpses that had been autopsied by forensic doctors made my legs weak. Especially after seeing those bloody photos before, the lingering fear hadn't faded away.
I didn't get anxious, because my mind was a mess, thinking this and that, and before I knew it, time had passed. When Gao Cheng walked out from inside, the expression on his face was like he had just attended a grand banquet, rather than having just seen a dead body. His dark eyes sparkled with excitement. Seeing me, he walked over and grasped my wrist, lowering his head to examine my face carefully, saying: "Indeed, you're an unpolished jade!"
While I was stunned, he suddenly said in a light tone: "It's really a pity that you didn't go in, otherwise you would have had more concrete and tangible experience. Xia Zhu, are you sure you won't go in to take a look? Although the body has been autopsied, the forensic doctor basically restored it."
"Shut up, Gao Cheng!" I growled, unable to bear it any longer, but as soon as my voice came out, I immediately attracted several gazes.
Director Zhang Ji and Xu Jianglun who had been waiting outside with me all along.
The meeting was still in progress when Gao Cheng suddenly suggested that he wanted to see the body. The director had no choice but to announce the end of the meeting and asked each department to make a detailed report. Then, Zhang Ji followed Gao Cheng into the Procuratorate's office, while Xu Jianglun noticed my abnormal expression, brought over a cup of warm water, and stayed by my side.
A faint blush appeared on his face, but the high wall seemed to be completely unaware of the heavy atmosphere. He shrugged and threw out a sentence: "Let's go." Then he pulled me along as we walked away, but I heard the director coughing awkwardly behind us: "Ah... High sir..."
Gao stopped and turned around, looking impatient. The director looked at Xu Jianglun: "Xu, see them off." Xu Jianglun rubbed his nose and nodded, then pointed in the opposite direction of the corridor with a gesture: "Mr. Gao, Xia Zhu, go this way."
Sitting in the return car, Gao Cheng turned his head and stared at me, "Is it funny?"
I learned from him, shrugged and replied: "So-so, has a funny point." The residual light scanned his depressed expression, just felt relieved. Obviously didn't know the way, but always thought he was right, made two wrong turns in a row. It's actually his face that makes people admire, he doesn't feel embarrassed at all, I saw that even the director couldn't hold back.
As he looked away, I glanced at him and said, "Huh." His dark eyes shifted slightly, and I asked, "What is decryption? And what does the code name 'Cheetah' mean?" I had also secretly asked Xu Jianglun this question earlier when they entered the law enforcement department, but he looked embarrassed and apologetically told me that he wasn't clear about it. It wasn't that he was intentionally hiding it from me, but rather that in the conference room, I noticed that when the police officers received the papers handed out by the director, they first carefully read them with serious expressions, only slowly revealing their surprise afterwards.
While the director mentioned the code name "Cheetah", he also said that "some people" should understand, which means that not everyone is clear about this, and their later reverence and trust come more from that written text.
However, it can be certain that Detective Zhang Ji must have understood that his gaze at Gao Cheng was different from others. If he still had a reserved attitude in the conference room, all his doubts were gone when he came out of the Legal Supervision Section.
Gao Cheng's eyes flashed with a hint of movement as he said calmly, "I won't tell you."
