Chapter Fifty-Five: Wounded Heart
I lay down for a while and felt sore in the waist and back. I got up, limping on my injured foot, and slowly walked to the window, looking out.
How long has it been since I last stood by this window, gazing out in a carefree manner, lost in thought?
In the past, I liked to sit by this window - there was a low table that had been converted into a small Japanese-style tatami mat by my wife. From here, you could see the world below: green trees shaded the area, and not far away, there was a small square where every morning and evening, leisurely housewives would take their children and dogs for a stroll.
When I first moved in, I often fantasized that I would live a life like hers one day. She would get up with the sunrise and rest with the sunset, while I would be a good wife and mother, raising flowers and plants - because I said I liked them, she even set up a special flower house next to me, where I once raised all sorts of flowers and plants. But after her passing, those flowers and plants also declined along with their master.
Now, I will raise them all.
Thinking of this, the corners of my mouth rose up.
Just then, I suddenly saw a figure flashing by under the building. I only felt that the back shadow was extremely familiar, tall and thin, very straight. It was Sun Wen.
I suddenly tensed up. He had long known about this place, but whether he knew that the person who bought this house was Su Jinan, I wasn't clear. If he knew it was Su Jinan, and now I'm living with Su Jinan here, he would definitely suspect something and investigate. Then Ji Luan's identity might be exposed!
I lifted one foot and jumped to the edge of the bed, found my phone and dialed Su Jinan's number.
But his phone was actually turned off.
I wasn't in a hurry at first, but now I'm getting anxious all of a sudden.
Although I couldn't become Sun Yat-sen's wife, I never thought of becoming his enemy.
I moved over to the window and looked out. There were not many people left, but Sun Wen was still wandering around outside.
He seems to have no purpose, just wandering around aimlessly.
What is he doing here?
I was looking outside when I suddenly heard someone coming back from outside.
I felt a sudden tension, but when I turned around, I saw that Ji Luan had already walked in.
"How did you get up? Your feet should not walk for a few days, and don't leave any roots of the disease." Ji Luan became somewhat anxious as soon as he saw me standing.
"Come quickly. Look here."
He walked over with a suspicious look on his face, following my hand as I pointed, and saw Sun Wen downstairs, immediately becoming alert.
"When did he come?"
"I didn't know, just found out, was about to call you, but your phone is off."
"I went to that cold drink wholesale place last night. I sneaked in, avoiding people, and saw it for myself... Originally, I thought about taking it back, but after some thought, it's better to leave it there for now. We don't have the conditions to store it ourselves, and if we bring it back, Sun Wen will discover it - or perhaps someone else is behind him. After startling the snake in the grass, I'm afraid nothing can be investigated." Ji Luan's face was full of determination and decisiveness. I knew that this battle would be long and difficult. We don't know who the opponents are or what their purpose is.
"What should we do now? Sun Wen probably found out that we live here."
"No, when I bought the house, it was for my parents..." Ji Lian suddenly became sentimental and his voice weakened.
"They've aged a lot. I'm quite unfilial."
