Chapter Fifteen
The sky was bright and clear, and Si Luo Chen finally broke through the distance of two beds, crawling into Xiang Qian Tong's bed to hug her and sleep beautifully.
Because I slept too late and was too excited, I didn't wake up until very late the next day.
But was disturbed by Qian Tong's phone call.
He reached out and touched the phone receiver: "Hello." Xiang Qian Tong's voice still had a hint of morning hoarseness.
"Has the doctor risen yet?" A woman's voice came over the phone.
"Miss Gu, hello."
"I just returned from the UK, are you free to meet up?"
Qian Tong felt the person beside her quietly get up and walk into the bathroom to wash up, before responding: "Mm, okay. What time?"
"This morning, I'll go to your office to talk."
"Alright, see you later." Xiang Qian Tong hung up the phone and fell silent, as if she had just woken up from a deep sleep.
"Do you have something to go out for today?" Si Luo Chen asked after washing up.
"It's the patient's daughter from yesterday, she wants to talk to me." With a gloomy expression, he looked at the other person and said, "Sorry, Luochen, I won't be able to accompany you today."
Yesterday two people just expressed their inner voice, normally today should go out and celebrate properly.
Xia Luo Chen didn't say a word, came to Xiang Qian Tong's side and pulled her up, saying lightly: "What are you talking about? I'm not a kid, go wash up quickly, I'll go make breakfast for you."
"Breakfast?" For some reason, every time Si Luo Chen said he would make something for her to eat, she felt a sense of fear. This fear originated from their university days when the four dormitory mates gathered at Wang Shao Ke's home, each person bringing one dish. Si Luo Chen was in charge of making black pepper beef, but... all that could be seen was charred remains with no sign of beef.
Always thought Si Luo Chen belonged to the dark cooking system graduate.
"The bread I bought at the supermarket, I'll help you toast it, and brew a cup of coffee. These two things I can still handle." Si Lu Chen replied tactfully, noticing the other person's skepticism.
"...I'll just have milk then, you can have the coffee." He replied with a silly smile.
"You went to bed so late yesterday and you have things to do today, if you don't drink coffee you'll be drowsy. Weren't you the one who couldn't live without coffee before?"
"You also said it was before, I've already quit, it's just that I drank too much and my body doesn't feel comfortable."
"Alright, you go wash up first. I'll get your breakfast ready, it'll be out soon." Seeing Si Luochen walk out of the room, Qian Tong looked at her back, a hint of a happy smile playing on her lips.
Is she really with Si Luo Chen?
What an incredible feeling, will this kind of emotion have a result?
Xiang Qiantong, who had always been insecure about his emotions, shook his head and walked into the bathroom to turn on the faucet, washing his face vigorously.
Decided to cast these thoughts aside afterwards.
Xiang Qiong Tong finished breakfast and went to the clinic. As soon as he entered the office, someone knocked on the door and came in. It was a refined and capable woman with medium-length curly hair, carrying a bag and walking towards Xiang Qiong Tong.
"Long time no see, Doctor."
"Long time no see, Miss Gu."
Si Luo Chenwo was at home, holding a psychology book to pass the time. He thought of all sorts of things from yesterday with Xiang Qian Tong, and his mouth would occasionally curl up into an unconscious smile.
I didn't know what I was watching, a complete picture of a happy woman in love.
But rational she always felt that in Qian Tong's words, there were many expressions that were not very clear.
That sentence 'if possible' ultimately didn't answer Qian Tong's question either.
Is she worried about something? What happened in these three years since she left?
In memory, Xiang Qiong's personality was indeed different from her university days. It can't be said exactly where the difference lies, only that her personality is no longer as sunny and outgoing as before, and she is more tactful in her actions, no longer speaking without reserve and joking around randomly.
But these are all personalities that can be honed in society, and Si Luchen doesn't like to suspect Xiang Qiong. He believes she has already become a habit. Even if something happens, Si Luchen believes that one day Xiang Qiong will tell her everything.
All we can do now is cherish the days we spend together in the future and make up for the lost three years.
This is Si Lu Chen's final decision.
I thought I could relax at home comfortably, but then I received a call from Shen Lue.
It's about Jack, Shen Lue said his condition isn't very good, hoping Si Luo Chen can go take a look.
As a doctor, even if she had doubts about this matter, she would still do her best for the patient. After simply tidying up and sending a message to Xiang Qian Tong, she headed to the rehabilitation center.
Yesterday New York had a night of rain, the sky was overcast after the rain, and the air was filled with a cool and damp feeling, especially at the rehabilitation center, which felt particularly desolate.
Under Shen's lead, they arrived at the ward and found Jack tied up on the bed by doctors, his body convulsing.
"What's going on?" Si Luo Chen asked in confusion.
"He wanted to commit suicide and was rescued by medical staff, now he's emotionally agitated." As she spoke, she saw through the window that medical staff had given Jack an injection of tranquilizer, and soon Jack fell asleep.
"It seems you'll have to wait for him to wake up before communicating." Shen said briefly.
Si Luo Chen glanced at her and didn't respond.
The medical staff came out and Shen Yue asked roughly how long it would take for Jack to wake up. The medical staff understood what Shen Yue meant and replied, "About an hour."
Nodding in agreement, he looked at Si Luo Chen with a smile: "For the time being, I'll take Dr. Si to visit the rehabilitation center first."
"What is Miss Shen responsible for here every day?" Si Luo Chen followed Shen Lue's footsteps and asked lightly.
"Does the doctor think I'm free every day?"
Si Luo Chen nodded expressionlessly: "A little."
Shen Yue's mouth corners slightly hooked up, and he didn't show any expression: "Why didn't you get up to see the doctor today?"
"She has patients today."
Shen Lue led the way, with Si Luo Chen following closely behind her as they walked through various areas of the rehabilitation center. Shen Lue would occasionally introduce some situations and related matters about the rehabilitation center, while Si Luo Chen only responded with one or two sentences from time to time. If Shen Lue didn't take the initiative to chat, Si Luo Chen's thin lips wouldn't even move once.
Fortunately, Shen Lue had already had a psychological understanding of Si Luo Chen's cold personality and was very patient, properly using language to ease the icy atmosphere.
Occasionally, she would glance at Si Luo Chen, who had no expression, but was very curious about what kind of appearance she had when facing Qian Tong.
"Doctor, it's almost time, Jack will be bothering you." Shen said, glancing at his watch.
Si Lu Chen nodded and asked lightly: "Is Miss Shen going with us?"
Shen Yue shook his head slightly, and Si Luo Chen left without any expression.
Entering Jack's ward, Jack had not woken up yet. Si Luo Chen held the materials that Shen Lue had just given her and patiently flipped through them. Feeling a slight change in the person beside her, Si Luo Chen raised her head to see Jack staring at her with an unfriendly gaze.
"Hello Jack, I'm Si Luo Chen."
Jack said nothing.
"I'm a psychiatrist, and I know you don't need me."
Jack had always been hostile towards Si Luo Chen, and with a look of discontent, he said, "What are you still doing here?"
As soon as Jack opened his mouth, Si Luo Chen considered it a success. With a gentle tone and a professional expression, he said: "If I really leave, what will you do? Will you continue to commit suicide?"
“……”
"I just simply understood your past and thought you were great. What would people who knew you in the past think of you, Jack?"
Si Luo Chen's tone was light yet powerful, making people feel very comfortable listening to him. Jack's eyes seemed to follow Si Luo Chen's words, naturally entering a state of reminiscence.
"Jack, I didn't mean any harm, just trying to help you as much as I can."
"I don't need any unnecessary help." Jack replied bluntly, his expression showing clear resistance towards Si Luo Chen.
"Indeed, you don't need me. What you need is a pair of legs, to get back to your unit, back to the battlefield, back into the cockpit of that plane you love so much, isn't it?"
Jack furrowed his brow, lowered his eyebrows and fell silent again.
"I saw your Facebook post after you were rescued. You said it was the worst day of your life so far, and nothing could be worse than why I'm still alive. This is the most miserable, painful, frustrating, and terrifying moment I've ever experienced. If I had a choice, I'd rather die." Si Luo Chen moved his chair closer to Jack's side and said: "I have never experienced what you went through, and I know I don't have the qualifications to help you in your eyes, but I hope I can be a listener for you. You can tell me what happened, and I'll use my 'professional' skills to help you, okay?" He emphasized the word "professional".
In the corner of the room, a monitor was fixed on Si Luo Chen and Jack's position, their every word, every expression was reflected inside. Shen Lue had his hands clasped in front of his chest, hearing Si Luo Chen's words, a satisfied smile curled up at the corners of his mouth.
Jack didn't respond and wasn't that repelled by Si Luochen, which was a kind of default attitude. In Si Luochen's eyes, this feedback had already succeeded halfway.
After a while, Jack and Si Luo Chen quickly became like friends as they got to know each other's lives in the army. It was clear that Jack enjoyed sharing with Si Luo Chen because she would always ask him many questions about his interests.
It can be seen from the conversation that Jack likes the life in the troops very much, explaining those questions of Si Lu Chen, with confident light shining in his eyes.
"Do you have someone you like?" Jack suddenly asked Si Luo Chen this question.
When patients ask questions actively, it is the greatest recognition of this doctor.
Si Luo Chen's mouth hooked into a smile, and he nodded his head lightly.
"May I ask you a question? Is emotion very fragile?"
This question might not be asked by ordinary people, but Jack is a soldier. His education didn't include much emotion, because emotions would make him lose his combat effectiveness.
But that doesn't mean he has no emotions, it's just that he suppresses them. Once in a while, they burst out like a flood.
"Do you believe her?" Si Luo Chen countered.
Jack nodded without hesitation.
"You must cheer up then. Even if you've lost a pair of legs, you still have a pair of hands to hold her, don't you?" Si Luo Chen said seriously, looking at Jack.
Jack's eyes stared at Si Luo Chen with a hint of surprise, as if he had grasped something from it, and for an instant, a glimmer of hope flickered.
"Perhaps your life started with ups and downs, but that won't affect what kind of person you'll become later. Jack, since you believe in her, give her time to accept this fact. People who truly care about you won't leave you just because you lost a pair of legs; they're afraid you've lost the will to live. So...you must be strong and give yourself and those around you another chance to start anew." Si Luochen's tone was gentle and professional from start to finish. To Jack, her appearance was like an angel's smile.
"Thank you, Dr. Sai." Jack's response was full of gratitude.
Si Luo Chen felt that today's communication was almost over, and he straightened up with a slight smile: "It's my honor to be able to help you, I'm very happy."
"......Will you come again?" Jack asked directly, but felt a little shy.
Cai Luo Chen nodded in response and turned to leave.
