Chapter 7: Hand Seals and Mantras
"Chu Ping, you..." Yang Tian suddenly felt himself being a bit tongue-tied and didn't know how to ask the question.
Only Qing and Han Yu were also shocked, staring at Chu Ping as if they were looking at a monster.
"That's all. Just some Sanda fighting techniques taught in school!" Chu Ping felt a headache coming on and was forced to tell a lie.
"Nonsense! What they teach in school is all just empty theory, useless in practice. Do you think I'm an idiot?"
Yang Tian's face was filled with indignation, and he pulled on Chu Ping's sleeve, "You can't say that, you have to teach me!"
"Learning is for application, and flexibility is all that's needed!" Chu Ping seemed unwilling to dwell on this topic, and responded with a casual remark.
"Speaking of which, we also have a classmate in our dormitory, but she said that she learned family-style martial arts!" Yu Qing suddenly said.
"Family-transmitted martial arts!" Chu Ping's heart was secretly delighted, but he didn't show it on his face. He only thought to himself, "It seems that there are indeed many mysterious things passed down in the world, I just didn't know about them before!"
"How is this going to end?"
"Never mind him, let's get off the bus as soon as it stops!" Chu Ping saw that someone on the bus had already called the police and slightly furrowed his brow. With his easy-going personality, he thought it was better to have fewer troubles than more, and being taken to the police station for questioning wasn't likely to be a good thing!
The car drove for more than half an hour and when it arrived at the station, police cars were already waiting there for this troubled bus!
"What a hassle!" Chu Ping sighed.
Then came a series of treatments, Chu Ping and several others were taken to the police station, made a simple record, fortunately, the police station did not do much, let the four people go home.
"It seems I've watched too much TV and thought it would be a lot of trouble!"
The four of them left the police station and each went back home.
Standing downstairs, Chu Ping let out a long sigh and was about to go upstairs when he heard, "Young man, wait!"
A sudden loud noise came, Chu Ping turned around and saw an old man with white beard and hair!
They say he is an old man, only because his hair and beard are all white, but his face looks extremely young, without a single wrinkle, his spirit is full of vitality, his eyes shine brightly like the stars in the dark night, every move he makes is beyond description.
"Who are you?"
That man chuckled and said, "I was on the same bus as you on the way here. I saw your little brother being heroic and decided to follow him!"
"Oh, what do you want to do?"
Nothing much, just wanted to ask you a few questions!
"Alright, I'm home too. If it's convenient for you, come on in with me!"
"No, I'll just wait for you here, put down your luggage and let's find a place to talk!"
"Alright!"
Chu Ping didn't want his family to know about this either, so he agreed and said, "Then you wait here for a moment, I'll go and come right back!"
Quickly going upstairs, it just so happened that there was no one at home. Chu Ping returned home and didn't call ahead to let her family know she was coming. She put the gifts in her bedroom and then ran back downstairs.
That person's demeanor was elegant and refined, with an air of transcendence that set him apart from the mundane. His speech and mannerisms exuded a sense of peace and tranquility, and Chu Ping didn't suspect anything unusual about him.
He went downstairs, and with a faint smile, said "Follow me!" and started walking.
Chu Ping was slightly curious, and followed him, "Looking at this person's demeanor, it's clear that he's not an ordinary person. Could it be, could it be that he's also a cultivator? It must be, his hair is white and his beard is snowy, but his skin is as smooth as a baby's. If you say it's due to good maintenance, it's still impossible to have this effect!"
Chu Ping's home was already on the outskirts of the county town. The two walked for over ten minutes and had left the crowded area, arriving at the fields by the city's edge.
The old man stopped in his tracks, turned around, and smiled at Chu Ping, "Young brother is righteous and brave, not bad!"
Chu smiled faintly and said, "You're overpraising me, sir!"
That person looked Chu Ping up and down, "So young, yet able to...". The words stopped abruptly here, suddenly raised his hand, pointing at Chu Ping, "You... you..."
Chu Ping saw that he had a strange expression, but saw that the other party was staring at the six round Sheli hanging on his neck, and his heart moved, "Is there a problem with this?"
"Where did you come from?" The tone was somewhat urgent.
Chu Ping thought quickly in her mind, "This is an ornament I bought from a street stall, it's extremely hard and has a strange but nice shape, so I hung it around my neck!"
"What a waste of heaven's gift! What a waste of heaven's gift!" The man muttered to himself, and then suddenly came back to his senses. The look of shock and astonishment on his face disappeared, replaced by a solemn and serious expression, as if he had made some kind of decision. "Do you believe that there are immortals in this world?"
Chu Ping's heart skipped a beat, and he smiled, saying, "As Confucius said, respect the gods as if they are present! If you believe, it exists; if you don't believe, it doesn't!"
The old man chuckled and asked, "Good boy, what's your name?"
Chu Ping replied respectfully, "I am Chu Ping, may I ask how should I address you, sir?"
The old man burst out laughing, "I, I am a monk, my Buddhist name is Dou Sheng!"
"A monk!" Even though Chu Ping had always been calm and composed, he was still shocked to hear this man claim to be a monk!
He didn't say anything, but called himself a must-see. Looking at his temperament, he was quite bold and generous, which was completely different from the impression of those monks in Chu Ping who were indifferent and had no desires, sitting quietly and solemnly.
"What's wrong, isn't it allowed?!"
Chu Ping couldn't help but smile wryly, "Master, you're joking!"
When the other party claims to be a monk, Chu Ping even changed his title!
Dou Sheng burst into laughter, "Young one, I am the elder of Wuxiang Temple. The words of immortals may be elusive, but they are not empty!"
As he spoke, his hand slightly raised, pinched a strange seal, and exhaled loudly, "Zhe!"
Although the voice was not loud, it sounded like countless thunderclaps to Chu Ping, and what made him even more shocked was that with the opponent's true words handprint, he instantly lost control of his body!
Dou Sheng saw Chu Ping's shocked and frightened face, a smile appeared on his face, and he suddenly shouted, "Ha ha!"
Chu Ping was shocked and after hearing the word "Dou Sheng", he suddenly burst out laughing!
"Cry!"
Chu Ping's eyes welled up with tears again, and she burst into loud sobs.
Dou Sheng smiled and put away his Buddhist seal, looking at Chu Ping.
The other party retrieved the law seal, and Chu Ping immediately regained control over himself. However, his heart was filled with infinite shock, "This... this..."
Hesitating and stuttering, yet unable to say anything!
"How about it? Want to make me your master?"
"Master!" Chu Ping's face showed a surprised expression again.
"Not bad, this time I came down the mountain, was to travel the world, want to collect a few disciples to inherit my mantle. The temple's various masters and brothers have already had a large pile of disciples and grandchildren, I don't take a few also can't be justified. Today just happened to see you on the carriage, seeing your skills are not bad, and your roots are extremely good. Originally wanted to observe you for a few days, to see how your conduct is, but this sarira bead on your body is still pure white, from which it can be seen that your heart nature is not bad. How about it, come into my sect, I will transmit the cultivation method to you, and transcend the world!"
Chu Ping sighed in his heart, another guy who doesn't play cards in order! That guy in the mountain cave was like that too! This Dou Sheng monk is also like that!
He talks nonsense, if it weren't for the fact that I already have some understanding of cultivation myself, listening to his words would leave me completely bewildered and clueless!
Although she understood in her heart, Chu Ping still had to pretend to be confused and ignorant, "What did the master say about the relic cultivation? What's going on? Is it true that there are really immortals in this world?"
Dou Sheng was taken aback for a moment, then burst out laughing, "Look at me, I haven't even made myself clear yet!"
"What's hanging around your neck is a sarira! In Buddhist practice, the goal is to condense and refine the sarira, but the sarira you have is actually the physical remains of a great master who has achieved enlightenment and transmigrated! The former can be called inner sarira, while the latter can be called outer sarira! Inner sarira contains the spiritual energy of the practitioner's mind, and when they are reborn, they can recall their past life's abilities. Outer sarira, on the other hand, is formed from the physical body of a high-ranking monk, and others can also borrow its power to unleash immense abilities!"
"As for the legend of immortals, we cultivators have only cultivated our true selves. Once our methods are greatly accomplished, we can naturally break through the void and ascend to the heavens. In Daoism, this is called achieving an immortal position; in Buddhism, it's called becoming a Buddha or a Lohan."
