Chapter 5: Ancient Castle?
"Ruo Zi!" Fang Kai opened his eyes, and all around was pitch black. But Ruo Zi's back was in front of him, shining brightly, the light was dazzling, and Fang Kai had to squint his eyes.
Fang Kai stretched out his hand, wanting to grab Ruo Zi's shoulder, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't reach it. "Ruo Zi, wait for me! Ruo Zi!" Fang Kai made a great effort to get closer to the sacred Ruo Zi, but Ruo Zi's back figure was getting farther and farther away.
Suddenly, Ruo Zi's back disappeared, and a mirror appeared in front of Fang Kai. Fang Kai stopped, staring at the mirror in shock, with a person who looked exactly like him on it. At this moment, Fang Kai didn't smile, but the "Fang Kai" in the mirror had a subtle, intriguing smile at the corner of his mouth.
However, Fang Kai soon discovered that this was just his own illusion. The "Fang Kai" in the mirror had no expression at all. The two Fang Kais stared at each other, and a chill gradually rose from their feet to their hearts.
But the next second, Fang Kai saw clearly that his reflection in the mirror was slowly "walking" out of the mirror. "Do you think you can really escape death?" The "Fang Kai" stretched out its palm and pressed it against Fang Kai's face. It still had no expression, but seemed to be smiling eerily.
"Death? What is that, have I died?" Fang Kai looked at the "himself" in front of him, and for some reason, he didn't feel even a bit of fear. It was just that his mind was a complete blank, and he had no idea what was going on.
"Fang Kai" smiled, twisted his neck, and said in a fierce tone: "One day, you will see death. Believe me, one day... believe me." Suddenly, Fang Kai let out a shrill cry, then his eyes hurt, the mirror shattered into pieces of glass, falling into the endless darkness.
At the same time, countless "heh heh" laughter sounded around.
In the dark center, Fang Kai's head began to ache violently, he tightly covered his head, and his consciousness started to blur. He only felt that those eerie laughs seemed to be mocking him, swirling around him. "You will see death, you will see death... Ah!" A loud roar pierced through the darkness, and the endless blackness was instantly replaced by green.
Fang Kai opened his eyes.
He was panting heavily, with cold sweat constantly seeping from his forehead. It turned out that he had just had a nightmare. After calming down slightly, Fang Kai began to observe the surroundings.
He didn't realize it until he saw it, and Fang Kai couldn't help but jump in fright.
Unexpectedly, he fainted in the bushes. However, these bushes were taller and denser, and when Fang Kai moved his gaze to the back, he was shocked to find an ancient castle appearing before his eyes.
The ancient castle looked very old, with vines all over it. Fang Ke took out a laser shovel and scraped off some of the vines, then dug out a small sample from the grayish-white wall. Fang Ke rubbed his hands together, sniffed it with his nose, and found that the wall was made of granite. Granite is stable in texture, hard, and a good stone material for building walls. However - Fang Ke looked at the ancient castle from top to bottom, and initially determined that this magnificent building had consumed at least several million blocks of granite.
With so much granite used in building this ancient castle, this structure is absolutely not that simple.
As soon as he thought of this, Fang Kai took a closer look at the ancient castle and found that it was indeed a bit strange. Generally speaking, an ancient castle is semi-military and semi-residential, with a moat around it and a drawbridge for entry and exit. But the ancient castle in front of him was very strange, with only a simple arched door at the entrance, and countless vines hanging down from the top of the door, sealing the castle gate tightly.
Fang Kai hesitated for a moment, but his curiosity got the better of him. After making preparations, Fang Kai eagerly opened up a large hole in the vines at the archway, but just as he was about to crawl inside, a musty smell wafted out.
Fang Kai's eyebrows furrowed, and he immediately covered his mouth. He could now basically confirm that this ancient castle had not been visited by anyone for many years, and the air inside did not circulate with the outside at all. "Could it be that the shrubs around the ancient castle are too high and dense, so they were forgotten here?" Fang Kai couldn't help but reveal a bitter expression. If Joems was here, a few potions could quickly dispel this annoying ancient air.
As soon as he thought of Qiao Mu Si, Fang Kai thought of Pang Dong and Ruo Zi. "Alas, I wonder how they are doing now... It's strange to say, I should have been poisoned by the Electric Wolf, but why haven't I died yet? And that black thing..." Fang Kai covered his chest, only to find that his heart rate was very even, without any signs of poisoning.
"Also, why did I wake up here. And what is this place?" Fang Kai looked at the dark hole he had cut out and couldn't help but feel a little worried. He also didn't know when the air inside would mix completely with the outside air, after all, the toxicity of long-term sealed air was quite strong.
About half an hour later, Fang Kai estimated that the toxic gas inside the castle had been eliminated by about 70-80%, so he no longer hesitated and stepped in with his metal gun.
Inside the ancient castle, it was pitch black. Fang Kai thought of turning on the light, but found that the energy had been depleted. He patted his pocket and realized that he had also used up all his incendiary grenades. At a loss, Fang Kai could only take out his laser shovel. Now he discovered that, apart from killing enemies, the laser shovel had another use - illumination.
Turn on the laser, Fang Kai vaguely saw that under his feet was a road paved with cobblestones. On both sides of the road stood towering stone statues that were intimidating. Although covered by many spider webs and moss, Fang Kai could still distinguish that these statues were all warrior statues.
The pointed hat, the helmet with bird and snake patterns, and the figure holding a bow and arrow, shooting on one knee, all indicate that there are statues of warriors with different postures and movements standing on both sides of the cobblestone road!
Fang Kai's astonishment grew as he gazed at the vivid and lifelike warrior statues, marveling at the sculptor's incredible craftsmanship. These sculptures must have been created a long time ago, with some facial features blurred and certain parts damaged. Nevertheless, this did not diminish the profound impact on Fang Kai's heart.
What kind of people carved out these things, and what was their purpose? Isn't this a castle? The imposing statues on both sides seem to be hinting at the fact that there must be something unimaginable at the end of the road.
Fang Kai's curiosity was stronger than ever, and he couldn't wait to rush to the end to see what was there. However, some unpleasant voices interrupted Fang Kai's thoughts.
These unfriendly voices come from the base of the warrior statue.
It turned out that Fang Kai was so focused on looking at the warrior statue that he forgot what he had stepped on. It wasn't until a low, muffled "rumble" sound came from under his feet that Fang Kai snapped back to reality and looked down, only to find that it was a protruding mechanism!
Fang Kai's foot was on the trigger.
In an instant, a familiar voice rang out. Fang Kai vaguely remembered that it was in the tomb of Hu Fu. Indeed, when Fang Kai moved the laser to the bottom of the warrior statue, a black-brown striped viper was raising its head, staring coldly at Fang Kai. They didn't spit out red letters, but their eyes probably already expressed their intentions.
They want to tear Fang Kai apart.
Seeing this scene, even Fang Kai, who was known for his bravery and wisdom, couldn't help but swallow a mouthful of saliva. He had expected there to be danger in the ancient castle, but he hadn't thought it would be so many "small animals". Moreover, what made him even more anxious was that there were no lights around, only illuminated by laser beams, which was simply courting death!
What's most important is that Fang Kai didn't know how many warrior statues were on both sides of the cobblestone road, and how many vipers were trapped under the pedestals. "I'm going to be killed," Fang Kai thought anxiously in his heart, and suddenly his hand shook, sweeping the laser beam upwards. Fang Kai was shocked to see that at the top and corners of the ancient castle's walls, there were actually quite a few burning candles.
When he saw the candles, Fang Kai's heart finally settled. He raised his metal gun and shot at each candle, the bullets flying at an incredible speed, and somehow managed to relight the abandoned candles that had been extinguished for many years. [The material used in these candles is quite unique and reversible. After the original wick has burned out, the remaining wax drips back into the candle holder and solidifies again. As long as there is enough friction, the wax will reignite. Therefore, these candles are often used as extremely rare eternal lamps.]
It has to be said that the database helped Fang Kai once again. Fortunately, he had carefully studied its contents before, otherwise Fang Kai wouldn't have thought of using the high speed of the sonic bullet to create intense friction and re-ignite the wax tear.
A candle was lit, and the darkness was instantly repelled. The light once again enveloped the ancient castle. Fang Kai not only saw the location and number of the viper snakes but also saw that at the end of the cobblestone road, there was a super-large statue of the Feathered Snake God!
Fang Kai instantly understood without explanation that the ancient castle was not a castle but the legendary Temple of the Feathered Serpent God.
According to legend, the Maya people worshipped the feathered serpent god. In the hearts of ordinary people, it symbolized good weather; while in the eyes of priests, it was a protective deity and sacred representative of sacrifice! This long-haired snake held an irreplaceable position in the hearts of the Maya people, it was their pride.
Before, when Fang Kai read relevant materials on Mars, he had a strong interest in the Feathered Serpent God and always wanted to see its magnificent appearance. Unexpectedly, this time's unexpected awakening actually fulfilled Fang Kai's dream!
The Feathered Serpent Deity statue is carved entirely from green jade, with a human head and snake body, and a pair of large wings on its back. The deity's face is expressionless, solemn and sacred, holding a scepter in its hand, with deep eyes gazing out of the temple. The statue has clear edges and corners, giving off a sharp sword-like feeling. When you stand before it, you feel how small you are.
Fang Kai stared blankly at the image of the feathered serpent god, completely ignoring the venomous snake lurking behind him. It wasn't until the repeated shrill cries that Fang Kai was snapped back to reality.
Turning his head, Fang Kai only then realized how severe the situation was! After carefully counting, Fang Kai couldn't help but stare with his eyes wide open, the number of warriors hiding like a pit viper in an ambush was over one hundred.
What a magnificent sight!
