Volume 1 Chapter 22 River Blocking the Road
The little snake sighed: "Although extremely disappointed and afraid, at that time, the situation did not allow me to think too much, because it was already past 11 o'clock at night. In this unknown mountain, I had no way of knowing how many dangers were hidden. Even if there were no ferocious wild animals in the mountains, I was alone, and if I fell into a ditch or accidentally fell into a hunter's trap, it would be enough to end my life."
The little snake said, and a few people listened quietly: "Fortunately, I grew up in the mountains since childhood, and I still have rich mountain survival experience. Three to five days without water or food is not a big problem for me. After slowly adapting to the situation, I didn't rush either. Let's take our time to find the way out, one day if not two days, two days if not three days. In the vast mountains, there are plenty of wild animals and plants that can fill my stomach, and we will eventually find a way out."
"You're so carefree, I'd have gone crazy by now." Fat Chen muttered.
"Are you still as lazy as before?" Lin Jie hugged his waist and teased with a smile, she had already stuck to him like a dog skin plaster.
"What happened after that?" Xu Ming asked.
"I fell asleep," Xiao Hua's words began to slur, his tongue slightly thickened. Hong Jun hastily poured him a glass of mineral water. Xiao Hua took it and drank a few mouthfuls. "In the mountains, I wouldn't dare wander around alone at night, so I found a pine tree, climbed up onto a branch and fell asleep."
"Haha, you little kid can still sleep at this time, really not bad." Hong Jun laughed.
"Alas," the little snake sighed, "you think I'm so brainless and gutless that I can sleep in the wilderness? I was trembling with fear on the tree all night, not daring to close my eyes for a moment."
"Hiding? Hiding from what?" Fat Chen asked.
"I don't know, when a person spends the night in the wilderness, they're afraid and don't dare to stay on the ground for long. So, they climb up a tree. I think most ferocious beasts can't climb trees, and those that can are usually small animals that aren't very threatening. Therefore, compared to being on the ground, it's much safer in a tree, and from up high you can see what's going on all around you, which makes you feel more at ease." The little snake said, then stopped talking.
The snake's eyes began to dart around, and he finally noticed Lin Jie, looking at her and Fat Chen's intimate appearance, so he asked Fat Chen: "Fat brother, who is this?"
"Don't mind her, you continue with what you were saying." Fat Chen didn't respond directly, in fact he couldn't think of how to respond. In his heart, he was still hesitant about whether or not to accept Lin Jie as his girlfriend. Although the two had already had physical contact, at their age, they didn't place too much importance on this aspect. To Fat Chen, it was just like eating a salty dish - nothing special. In fact, he had already eaten several bites of the salty dish.
"Okay." The little snake responded and continued to tell his story. The first midnight, he slept in the wilderness, hiding on a tree with bated breath, not sleeping at all, and the branches creaked, making him feel uncomfortable all over. It was more like suffering for a night than resting for a night, but he really didn't dare get off the tree, especially after midnight, when the sounds of various animals and birds in the mountains made him tremble with fear.
In this way, he barely made it through the night until the east showed a fish-belly white, and fortunately, it was midsummer with long days and short nights, so before he knew it, the sky had brightened. Of course, for Little Snake, this one night was much longer than a whole year. Otherwise, he himself would have doubted whether he could survive a single night in the wild.
The sky brightened, and he jumped down from the tree. On the mountain, he found some wild fruit and filled his stomach. The big mountain was good in this way - it wouldn't let people starve to death. While eating, the little snake thought that fortunately, he had gotten lost on a lush green mountain. If he were lost in the desert, Gobi Desert, or snowy mountains for a night... He didn't dare think about it anymore. So, he started searching everywhere for a way out of the mountain. As a result, he walked around 10-15 miles up and down the mountain before crossing over to the front of another big mountain. After walking another three or four miles, a huge cliff suddenly appeared in front of him, with no road to continue on.
The cliff is not high, but the water flows rapidly at the bottom, it's a turbulent river. The snake looked around and saw that the widest part of the river was about 8-9 meters, and the narrowest part was also 4-5 meters. Judging from the color of the water, the middle of the river is at least over one meter deep.
The water was deep and fast, the little snake couldn't swim, and more than a meter of water was enough to drown him. Looking at the flat mountain on the other side, he had no way to get past. The little snake shook his head painfully.
He still decided to go down to the river for a trip, not for anything else, but to supplement his body's water. In the hot summer weather, the water content in the wild fruits eaten in the morning was not enough to maintain the circulation of the body.
After more than ten minutes, he finally made it down to the riverbank with great difficulty. He washed his face and scooped up water with both hands to quench his thirst. In this deep mountain forest, God knows when he would see water again next time. He had to prepare for the worst, lest he die of thirst before finding a way out.
He stood on the riverbank, lost in thought, unable to think of any way to cross the river. He shook his head and climbed back up the cliff. Looking upstream and downstream, it was all steep cliffs, with no end in sight.
At this point, he had to re-choose a direction. Should he go back, follow the river downstream or upstream? Or should he continue downstream? He told himself that it seemed like they were not in Xinjiang and this was not an inland river. So, following the river downstream would eventually lead him out of the deep mountains or to the sea. If he went upstream, he might get deeper into the mountains and get lost inside. More importantly, surviving in the deep mountains wasn't about starving to death but rather dying of thirst, especially during the scorching summer days when the body's water consumption increased greatly. Without water, having food was pointless as well. Therefore, following the river would solve his food problem.
Having thought this through, the little snake decided to follow the river and walk along it. Although there would be some twists and turns, as long as he didn't starve or die of thirst, with his twenty-something-year-old body, he would eventually be able to walk out of this deep mountain.
As long as this world still follows the laws of nature. He didn't dare to think that unless, because he didn't dare to confirm whether this world was still the normal one in his eyes.
Walking for several hours is very tiring, especially when you are alone with only one goal, and the dullness of walking in the mountains, opening roads and building bridges, is a huge consumption of physical strength, not to mention the great torture on the spirit. Fortunately, Little Snake was born as an otaku, and he had already gotten used to being in his own environment. So, he could still encourage himself to continue walking.
