Volume 1 Chapter 42: The Glowing Tomb
"What's that?" A voice suddenly broke the extremely enthusiastic atmosphere, and Rui Xin, who was in a daze, opened her eyes wide, pointing to a not-too-distant place, asking.
Hong Jun couldn't care less about Rui Xin's question, he was already close to madness. He was like a male lion, savagely tearing at his prey, that weak and fragile prey had completely surrendered under his demonic claws. He was stripping off the prey's clothes, wanting to make the prey know his majesty on this night. Moreover, in fact, he could already feel the majesty of a certain part of himself.
"Wait, wait, look over there." Rui Xin struggled with all her might, panting as she spoke. Hong Jun finally realized something from Rui Xin's sudden and forceful struggle, he stopped his reckless behavior and lifted his head.
He saw a sky full of stars. There were red ones, green ones, and blue ones. They twinkled at the entrance of the village.
He rubbed his eyes and found that he had a bit of a rush of blood to the head earlier, and his eyes were seeing things. Those weren't stars, but rather small, unknown lights, some big, some small, gathered in a large patch of darkness at the entrance of the village.
That dark place is the ancestral tomb of the Hong family.
Hong grew up in the village, and he was naturally very familiar with his ancestral tomb at the entrance of the village. From childhood to adulthood, he didn't know how many times he had been there, whether it was for play or worship, this was a place he had to go. However, from childhood to adulthood, he never thought that such strange things would happen on his own ancestral tomb. Today, he saw for the first time, inside his family's ancestral tomb, there was such beautiful light, those sparkling lights, like fireflies lighting up colorful lanterns, floating around. He suddenly couldn't control himself, and he wanted to go forward to take a look.
"Xin'er, go home. I'll take a look over there, that's our family's ancestral tomb. In all my years, this is the first time I've seen it like this." He said to Rui Xin.
"No, you go with him." Unexpectedly, Rui Xin neither stopped him from going forward to take a look nor asked him to return home with her. Instead, she suggested that she would go together with him. As she spoke, she tied up the skirt that he had pulled open.
Hong Jun looked at her fastening her short skirt under the starlight, wanting to speak, his throat moved slightly, but he restrained himself. Now, the mood and atmosphere were gone, continuing would be counterproductive. He sighed.
Rui Xin might have guessed his loss and said with a smile: "Big bad egg."
As soon as the words came out, Hong Jun's mood immediately improved. He was a clever boy and he could hear Rui Xin's inner thoughts from these three words. In this world, not all words need to be spoken directly. Many words contain implicit meanings that are far richer than their literal meaning. And some words, when said by different people in different situations with different tones, can have vastly different meanings, even opposite ones.
For example, a sentence like "How are you? Are you uncomfortable?" between lovers is caring and sweet.
If it were said between enemies, this sentence would become a sneer and a provocation.
He was after all a university student, who prided himself on being able to read between the lines. Naturally, he understood the meaning of those three words "Rui Xin" in this situation tonight. So, he tightly grasped her hand.
"Aren't you afraid?" He remembered she was going to the tomb with him.
"You're not afraid anymore, I'm by your side, what's there to be afraid of?" Rui Xin said, her two hands clenched even tighter.
"That's our family's ancestral tomb. When I was a kid, we'd still play hide-and-seek inside it at midnight. What's there to be afraid of?" Hong Jun smiled.
"I'm not afraid either. In the future, I'll be your wife, and as a daughter-in-law, I'll go to my husband's family grave, there's nothing to be afraid of." Rui Xin said, "Maybe those old people will see me and especially like me, and intentionally protect me for you."
At this point, Hong Jun was 100% sure that tonight, the girl was ready to give herself to him. However, seeing these bright lights, he couldn't suppress his curiosity and re-planned tonight's action, deciding to go take a look at what was going on before continuing with Ruixin where they had left off earlier.
He sniffed the lingering fragrance on his hand, a unique scent that belonged to the girl, and made up his mind.
They were close to the village entrance, and in just over a minute, the two of them arrived at the cemetery. This was a place that Hong Jun often came to, and inside were buried some of his own elders. Although it was nighttime and he was with his girlfriend in the cemetery, he didn't feel scared, but rather had a sense of closeness. He was confident that no matter what happened, those ancestors who had loved and cared for him would not come up from below to harm him, and might even protect him.
Humans are emotional creatures, and family ties are forever etched in the deepest part of their hearts. Even when separated by life and death, they still fill with love and trust for their loved ones.
So, Hong Jun can come to his family's ancestral tomb in the middle of the night without any psychological burden.
It was strange that the bright light he had just seen at the entrance of the alley was gone when he arrived at the cemetery.
In the dark tomb, it was easy to determine that the bright light had indeed disappeared. So, La Rixin sat quietly beside an old ancestor's grave, where a long stone slab was placed, left by ancestors of unknown generations, allowing later generations to rest when they were tired of worshiping themselves.
This old ancestor was thoughtful, and before his death, he had thought of this detail for future generations. Hong Jun thought to himself as he put his arm around Rui Xin, but of course, he didn't make any further moves, standing in front of his own ancestral tomb, he wasn't that interested.
His eyes kept scanning the cemetery, he didn't believe that these strange lights would disappear just like that, he had a strong premonition that these lights were closely related to his recent bizarre encounters.
Half an hour passed, and there was nothing unusual in the cemetery, except for the noisy insect calls and the occasional passing of vehicles on the distant highway. Hong Jun felt as if he were in a lonely world, where there was no vitality left in the dark night.
Next to her sat Rui Xin, embracing her, in their ancestral tomb at home, looking at the darkness around them and the stars above. This scene would have scared anyone who saw it by chance. Now the first impression people got from these two was that they were a loving ghost couple crawling out of their tomb at midnight to talk about love.
Fortunately, it was already midnight, and most people in the village were asleep. Even if someone occasionally passed by the village entrance, they would never think that there was such a frightening scene in the tomb. Moreover, the surroundings were really dark, and if Hong Jun hadn't gotten used to the darkness, it could be described as "can't see five fingers when stretching out one's hand". Even if he had adapted to the darkness, he could only see two meters ahead of him, so even if someone looked into the tomb, they wouldn't be able to see anything. Besides, who would be bored enough to look into a tomb in the middle of the night? If they saw something, wouldn't that be asking for trouble?
Bored to death, Hong Jun was daydreaming about whether he and the other person should suddenly scare the next passerby when they walked through the village entrance, but he quickly gave up on this idea. One reason was that their appearance at midnight was too terrifying, and it was likely to scare people silly or even to death. Another reason was that in the quiet darkness, bright lights appeared again, initially blurry, slowly clearing up, with different sizes and colors, some as big as a bowl mouth, others as small as bullets, yellow, white, and green, twinkling here and there in the cemetery.
Hong Jun's body immediately broke out in goosebumps. The quiet cemetery suddenly emitted so many bright spots, what was it? Ghost fire? Hong Jun immediately denied his own thoughts, although he had never seen ghost fire before, but felt that ghost fire wouldn't have so many colors. Moreover, this cemetery, Hong Jun had come at night countless times, and even helped to relocate an old grave a few years ago, yet he had never seen or heard of ghost fire appearing here.
In the darkness, he couldn't determine what the light spots that appeared now were, which made him feel afraid. However, for Rui Xin by his side, he didn't dare to show anything unusual now. He could only forcibly suppress his trembling voice and say to Rui Xin: "Those bright lights have appeared again."
Rui Xin also saw those strange bright lights, her voice didn't change at all, still as calm as ever: "Yes, what is that?"
Yellow, white, green... lights are floating around in the cemetery, the closest one is only two or three meters away from me.
"Let's go take a look." Hong Jun thought for a moment, picked up a stone from the ground to boost his courage, but didn't think about whether ghosts would be afraid of stones. He then pulled Rui Xin towards a red glow, thinking that even in the underworld, red was still a festive color and wouldn't lead them astray.
His brain has actually short-circuited, because he has forgotten that in Hong Kong ghost movies, the most terrifying ghosts are always dressed in big red clothes. Red is auspicious for humans, but for ghosts, it may represent eeriness.
