Chapter 18: Stir-fried Bamboo Shoots with "Liver"
This crying has nothing to do with me.
That was an infant crying in his mother's arms.
It's just this crying sound that makes me think of Baby, that idiot girl.
The baby is still in my house! If that female ghost goes there again tonight, I don't know what will happen.
The baby may be in danger.
This brought my footsteps to a halt.
No way! I can't just abandon her like that. That's too unscrupulous, it's even worse than what beasts would do.
For conscience's sake, I turned back again.
When I ran to the front door of the house, I took a sneak peek at the door across from me. The door had nothing unusual about it, still as shabby as ever, and there was no light coming from inside the house.
It seems that female ghost has not come out yet, just take advantage of the opportunity to bring the baby away too, lest being entangled by that female ghost.
I opened the door of the house.
The door creaked as I pushed it open.
The innocent and cheerful smile of the baby is floating in front of my eyes again.
"Grandpa, you're back?" The baby excitedly shouted at me, "Liu Auntie is here too."
"Huh?"
I let out a scream of fright.
If it were an ordinary person, they would have been scared to death by now. But who am I? I'm someone who has seen monsters, one ghost can't scare me to death.
I took a deep breath and calmed down.
"Where's she?" I asked softly towards Baby.
"Make bamboo shoots for me in the kitchen." The baby smiled brightly.
"Ah—" I let out a sigh of relief, "Baby, come with me."
"Go? Where?" The baby blinked and asked me.
"Run for your life!" I said, "This damn house can't stay any longer, come with me quickly."
"Why can't I stay?" The baby asked me in puzzlement.
"Shh! Be quiet! There's a ghost in the house!" I whispered to Baby, "If you don't run away, the ghost will eat you up."
"What is a ghost?" The baby had no idea what a ghost was. Judging from her IQ, it's normal that she didn't know what a ghost was.
"Ghosts are bad people!" I didn't have time to explain too much to her, so I just casually said a sentence and gave ghosts a definition.
"Is there a bad person in the house?"
As soon as he heard the bad guy, the baby also became tense immediately, staring at me with wide eyes.
"Uh-huh." I nodded vigorously.
"Then let's run quickly." The baby urged.
After hearing what the baby said, my hanging heart finally fell. It seems that this silly girl is not so silly after all! At least she knows how to escape.
I stretched out my hand, wanting to pull her along and run together. At this moment, she suddenly turned around.
I was stunned for a moment, and didn't know what she wanted to do.
"Aunt Liu Mei, come and run with us quickly! There are bad people in this house!"
The baby cried out loud, even an eighty-year-old deaf old man would have heard it.
This time I'm left speechless, this silly girl is really silly indeed.
"Shut up! Shut the f*** up!"
I wanted to stop her, but it was too late.
The kitchen door opened and Liu Mei walked out of the kitchen.
"Are there bad people?"
Liu Mei looked down at her eyelids, glanced at me, and then looked at the baby again.
"Daddy said there's a bad guy in the house." The baby pointed at me and said.
"Heh heh." I tried to remain calm and smiled, "I was just joking with her."
"Oh." Liu Mei said with a sigh, "You're back just in time, come help me in the kitchen."
"I won't stir-fry." I hastily declined.
"Will you wash dishes?" Liu Mei slowly walked to his side.
I suddenly felt a chill wind blowing around me.
"I...I..." I stuttered in fright and hastily spoke up. At this point, even if I didn't know how to do it, I had to say that I could.
"Then come with me." Liu Mei beckoned with a wave of her hand.
In this case, I knew I couldn't escape. I had no choice but to follow Liu Mei's back towards the kitchen.
Entering the kitchen, Liu Mei pointed to a stack of bowls and said to me: "Wash these bowls clean."
I looked down and saw three bowls, all of which I had used before. I have a habit, that is, laziness. After finishing eating, I basically don't wash the bowls. I bought several bowls, used one and put it there, waiting for the next meal to use another one.
Liu Mei this time brought out all the bowls I used three days ago.
"I...brushed...I don't even dare look up at Liu Mei now."
A ghost stood beside me, always making me feel a chill all over.
I lowered my head, picked up the bowl, and began to wash it absent-mindedly.
"What do you like to eat?" Liu Mei suddenly asked me.
"I stammered out a word."
"You seem very nervous?" Liu Mei hummed.
"No." I forced a smile.
"Bamboo shoots stir-fried with liver, do you like to eat it?" Liu Mei asked me slowly, holding a kitchen knife in her hand.
I've hardly ever cooked in the kitchen and I don't recall having a cleaver in my kitchen. Liu Mei's cleaver must have come from who-knows-where.
The blade of this vegetable knife looks very sharp and shines brightly under the light.
"What liver? Which liver?" I stammered.
"Bamboo shoots stir-fried with liver? How come you don't like to eat it?" Liu Mei turned the knife in her hand and asked me again.
"I... like it." I had already broken out in a cold sweat and nodded slightly.
"That's good." Liu Mei said, "This dish is still missing something."
"What's lacking? Soy sauce? I'll go get some for you! I'm the kind of person who loves to fetch soy sauce." I hastily agreed, this was a perfect opportunity to slip away.
Liu Mei looked at me, coldly smiling and shaking her head.
I also took a glance at her face and only then did I discover that her face was so pale, without any hint of blood color. No need to think much, such a face must be the face of a ghost.
"Soy sauce is here." Liu Mei said to me word by word.
"That's going to buy vinegar? Buying vinegar is also okay." I said.
Liu Mei shook her head: "We already have all these."
"Got everything? What else can I buy?" I muttered.
"Bamboo shoots stir-fried with liver, but the bamboo shoots are still short of one piece of liver." Liu Mei said, raising the kitchen knife in her hand and walking towards me.
"What... what are you going to do?"
I was startled, and I'm already scared of ghosts, let alone this ghost is holding a kitchen knife at this time.
"I'm going to use your liver to stir-fry bamboo shoots!"
Liu Mei's mouth suddenly opened wide, and a blood-red tongue over a meter long was spat out from her mouth.
"Ahh! A ghost!"
My voice hadn't even cried out yet when that blood-red tongue wrapped itself around my neck.
My neck was throttled and I couldn't shout anymore.
Liu Mei shook her head and used that blood-red tongue over a meter long to fling me against the wall.
I fell and got up from the ground.
I wanted to shout for help, but before I could open my mouth, Liu Mei's tongue wrapped around my neck again.
She drew her tongue back into her mouth this time, and I was pulled in front of her.
"I want your liver!" Liu Mei's hair was disheveled, her face deathly pale, and her two bloodshot eyes stared straight at me as she spoke to me.
If I could speak, I'd tell her that my liver has snake venom and can't be eaten. Why don't we all eat pig's liver instead?
But I couldn't speak, all I could do was listen to her talk.
She did things in a straightforward and efficient manner. She just said that one sentence to me, then raised the kitchen knife in her hand again.
I know she's going to kill me and dig out my liver.
I also know that if people lose their liver, they will definitely die.
I also know I don't want to die yet.
If it were in the past, I would have fainted by now.
Now I am also one of those who have seen monsters. In front of a ghost like Liu Mei, I won't be completely scared to death.
Just as the kitchen knife was chopping towards me, I finally gathered strength, lifted one leg and kicked Liu Mei with all my might.
Liu Mei obviously didn't realize I would resist, and this kick landed on her body.
But she's a ghost, and this kick of mine didn't cause her too much harm.
"What should you do for your daughter?"
Liu Mei took two steps back, her crimson tongue stretched even longer.
"You're her father, but you won't even give him milk to drink!"
"She wants to eat bamboo shoots stir-fried with liver! You should give me your liver!"
"Otherwise, you're an incompetent father!"
"All incompetent fathers should die!"
Liu Mei said some more things to me. These words sounded unreasonable to me, but then again, she's a ghost, and ghosts don't have to make sense anyway.
"Come on! Give me your liver! Come be a good father!"
