Chapter Thirty-Eight
There were sounds of people walking and talking inside the carriage. Anran covered her eyes with her hand, and the blanket covering her body was pulled up to her neck, tightly wrapped around her, but she still couldn't resist the chill that crept up from her feet, wave after wave.
The flight attendant pushed the cart back and forth several times, seeing her pale face and lips that were so light they had no color. She couldn't help but gently pat her arm.
She saw her put down her hand and open her eyes to look over, handed over a cup of warm water, and asked softly: "Is there anything uncomfortable?"
Suddenly opened his eyes to see things in front of him, dazed for a moment, after a dizzy spell he could finally see the person standing in front of him clearly, slightly curved his lips and smiled, waved his hand: "I'm fine, just didn't rest well."
The flight attendant handed her the warm water in her hand and asked, "Do you want to drink some water?"
"Thank you." An Ran took it over calmly, thanked him in a low voice and drank it all up bit by bit from his palm.
The plane landed at A city's airport when it was already noon.
City A has been cooling down these days, with several consecutive days of gloomy weather, dark clouds pressing down, making it hard to distinguish day and night.
She came out of the apron and first turned to the bathroom to wash her face. Standing in front of the sink, she only then realized how frightening her complexion was.
His face was as white as if it had been painted with a layer of white paint, completely bloodless. Due to lack of sleep, there were faint dark circles under his eyes, and on top of that, the conspicuous bandage on his forehead...
She hasn't been so miserable in a long time.
She scooped up a handful of water to wash her face and refresh herself, the icy water temperature was particularly stimulating on her face. Seeing that her complexion had improved slightly, she raised her hand again to pat her face, waiting until both eyes had some spirit before pulling out a paper towel to wipe her face clean, then turned around and left.
After walking out of the airport, she realized how cold A city was after the temperature drop in recent days. The air seemed to have ice crystals, and breathing felt like being suffocated by the cold, with a sore throat. Staying for another moment would give her the illusion that anything could easily shatter in this environment.
She wrapped her coat tightly around her and didn't dare to stay any longer, hastily hailed a taxi and went straight to Wen Jingfan's apartment.
Before boarding the plane in S city, she connected a call with Wen Jingfan. His voice sounded terrible and hoarse.
It was unclear whether it was her polite refusal that day that made him feel a bit awkward or something else, but in the direct conversation, neither of them knew what to say to each other. They remained stuck like this for a long time, until he seemed to have heard some background noise on the phone and let out a soft sigh, asking her: "Where are you?"
"I'm at the airport..." she replied.
Wen Jingfan fell silent for a moment, his lazy tone finally regained some clarity: "You... are back?"
"I'm still in S city, about to board a plane. Are you... at home?"
"I'm home." He started coughing intermittently, and as he listened calmly, his heart also echoed with a faintly sharp pain. After a while, he calmed down, and when he spoke again, his voice was even hoarser than before: "What time will you be back? I'll go pick you up."
"No." An Ran refused calmly.
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a long silence on the other end of the line, accompanied by his slightly heavy breathing.
An Ran lightly bit her lip and vaguely added: "Wait for me to go over."
So she came just like this——
An Ran got off the car and stood under Wen Jingfan's apartment building, slightly tilting her head to look up.
He is on the 7th floor.
Su Anran was here last time too, waiting for him to go up and get the things that Fan Xi usually used. Now she's standing here, but she's ready to enter the house...
She raised her hand and gently knocked on her forehead, which was aching slightly, before taking a step forward.
The elevator slowly rose, and her thoughts were a bit messy. However, there were too many complicated ideas, and she felt anxious in her heart, but didn't know where the problem lay.
When she stood in front of Wen Jingfan's door with a suitcase in her hand, she finally understood what that anxiety was.
Just thought of turning around and entering the safety door next to it, thinking about what to say when meeting later, or simulating the expression that should be had when meeting, but hesitated again after turning around.
The person inside... probably can't even tell east from west anymore, and it seems like there's no point in her being so worked up about this.
The first step is always the hardest.
While she was still hesitating and didn't know what would be the most suitable and comfortable way to meet, the door creaked open from inside.
The person standing at the door and the one inside who was just about to go out stared at each other in confusion.
But the first one who reacted was still Wen Jingfan.
He took a step forward, his eyes falling on her face, and when he saw the gauze on her forehead, his eyes suddenly deepened, and his eyebrows had already slightly furrowed unintentionally.
An Ran subconsciously took a step back.
She herself had not yet realized her own shrinking action, but Wen Jingfan had already seen it keenly. His steps forward stopped suddenly, and he stood at arm's length from her.
Just as An Ran thought he would stop there, he took a big step forward and stood in front of her.
His face didn't look good either, pale and bloodless, with a deep fatigue between his eyebrows.
"Forehead..." He lightly uttered two words, and as soon as he finished speaking, he turned his head to the side, covering his mouth to cough a few times. When he turned back around, it seemed like he had only just noticed the suitcase she was dragging behind her, and his eyes flickered for a moment, seemingly with a hint of amusement, but it passed too quickly, disappearing from the bottom of his eyes before anyone could catch it.
He didn't say another word, but simply raised his hand to gently touch the wound on her forehead. When he saw the faint blood inside, his face changed and his voice became hoarse, as if he had a handful of sand: "How did you do it?"
Su Anran didn't have the face to say that she had heard the news of his injury after being unable to contact him, and then saw the bruise on his forehead from falling in the bathroom. She only raised her eyes to look at him, with a expression as if she wanted to say something but held back.
Wen Jingfan's eyes softened slightly, and he picked up her suitcase with one hand, while firmly grasping her wrist with the other, pulling her into the house: "Come in first."
The room has heating, compared to the freezing cold outside, it's much warmer by an unknown amount.
After Wen Jingfan entered the house, she closed the door behind her and placed her luggage in a corner of the living room. Seeing that she was still standing there without making a sound, a black shadow suddenly darted out of the kitchen and quickly ran towards the entrance hall.
When An saw Van Xi, she was very surprised. Just as she squatted down, Van Xi had already jumped into her arms, rubbing against her chest with a gentle "meow" and making sticky sounds.
Those emerald-like eyes sparkled with a bright light, looking extremely beautiful.
She changed her shoes and walked over, gently stroking Van Xi's body with her fingers. Only then did she have the time to take in his apartment, which gave her a somewhat different feeling from him - simple and unadorned, yet everything that should be there was present, just right.
He lifted his hand and pulled Vanxi out of Anran's arms, gently placing it on the floor. After standing up straight, his expression became more serious: "Is the injury on your forehead severe?"
"It was Wen Jingran who handled it, and after a few stitches, there's no major harm." She touched her forehead, seeing that his face was much paler than usual, only then did she remember the important matter...
"What about you?" As he spoke, he raised his hand and wiped it off.
She was a bit taller than Wen Jingfan, and with this slight lift, she felt a little off balance. Fortunately, as she did so, she instinctively raised her hand to hold his hand for balance.
Wen Jingfan also subconsciously stretched out his hand and steadily supported her.
His palms were hot, the temperature was a bit scorching. So much so that before An Ran even realized his forehead was overheating, he had already been startled by the heat of his palms.
"How hot is it?"
"How cool is this?"
The words fell, and both people were silent.
Wen Jingfan tossed the car key he had been holding onto the sofa and, with a slight inclination of his body, picked her up horizontally: "Go to my room and sleep first, you look terrible."
She struggled for a while but couldn't get free, and slightly annoyed: "I didn't come here to rest, I wanted to see if you were okay."
"There's something going on." He replied with a resolute tone, his eyes gazing deeply into hers, as if there was light that wanted to engulf her, making it impossible for her to look away.
"So you stay with me and let me take care of you."
This sentence... is somewhat contradictory, yet reasonable.
He didn't respond for half a day and I couldn't find any words to reply to him, so I could only quietly retreat.
In the brief silence, he had already walked to the big bed in his room and gently put her down. Unbeknownst to him, Van Hei had followed him and jumped onto the bed from the foot, walking a few steps to lie down elegantly between the two pillows at the head of the bed.
Su An felt a bit embarrassed and looked away from his gaze, only to notice that there were some disheveled pills on the bedside table.
Wen Jingfan sat down beside her, first carefully looking at the wound on her forehead, but not daring to uncover it. After confirming that there was no redness around it, his gaze fell on her somewhat terrible complexion, and his eyebrows furrowed even tighter.
"Does it still hurt?"
She nodded slightly, and the vulnerability in her heart was drawn out by his words, bubbling up like a gurgling stream, sour enough to make her teeth ache.
"Why don't you sleep here for a while? I'll go cook some porridge for you, and call you up to eat later." His hand fell on her shoulder, ready to help her lie down.
His surroundings were filled with his aura, and he suddenly became flustered, raising his hand to grasp his. Seeing him slightly stunned, the base of his ears suddenly felt a little hot: "I... I'm worried about you..."
Wen Jingfan was taken aback for a moment, then smiled softly: "I just took some medicine, the fever has subsided a bit, nothing serious."
"Were you just about to go out?" Her gaze fell on his neatly dressed clothes.
“
"Yes." He seemed to have noticed these things, took off his own coat and hung it on the armrest of the sofa not far away: "Prepare to pick you up, but I remembered the wrong time."
She glanced at her own coat and blushed, silently taking it off.
Wen Jingfan naturally took the coat from her hand and hung it on a nearby clothes rack. Seeing her slightly stiff expression, he pondered for a moment before saying, "You don't have to be tense, I won't do anything to you."
Although I want to do something.
"Last night, Lu Xi Fang said he couldn't get in touch with you..." Seeing him walk back, she subconsciously shifted to the side and made room for his seat.
She herself was unaware, but Wen Jingfan saw it and raised an eyebrow slightly, sitting down beside her with a gentle smile: "So you were worried about me?"
An Ran hesitated for a moment and then nodded again.
"I started having a fever after dinner yesterday, so I took some medicine and rested. My phone was on silent mode, that's why you couldn't reach me." As he spoke, he had already gotten into bed, and seeing her still sitting there, he reached out to gently pull her down beside him: "The guest room here is Van Gogh's playground, so the only place you can sleep is here, make do with it."
An Ran lifted her head and glanced at Fan Xi, who was licking his fur in a leisurely manner...
Nothing is suitable for answering.
Noticing An Ran's gaze, Fan Xi slightly tilted her head and looked at her with a soft call, her voice seemingly filled with excitement.
I think what I've done is simply awesome!!!

The author has something to say: This chapter almost killed me...... One more part would be inappropriate, one less part would have a sense of distance... After revising until now...
