Chapter 8: Good Friends Meet Ghosts
Hua Qi had been staying at Hua Ou's home for a week, during which time she kept asking Hua Ou to buy her some delicious food while thinking about many things.
For example, the ghost in the house of Hua Ou, for example, the dream that Hua Qi did. However, Hua Qi didn't understand these two things, and after being sleepless and forgetful for two days, Hua Qi gave up and threw them to the back of her mind. Then she continued to go to work, busy with her daily routine.
A week later, Lingling, a good friend who shared an apartment with Huaji, suddenly called Huaji.
Lingling on the phone said with a sob: "Huaji, when are you coming back? I'm so scared alone..."
Hua Qi immediately became worried and asked: "What's wrong? What happened?"
"Our house is haunted..." Lingling said and then burst into loud tears.
Huaji didn't quite understand Lingling's meaning either, but she still decided to go back and take a look, so she made an appointment with Lingling to wait for her at home after work.
After work, Huaji rushed back to her rented house and found Lingling lying alone on her bed, looking pitiful and evoking sympathy.
But Huaji at this time did not have a heart of pity and sympathy, the first thing she asked was what exactly happened to Lingling.
Lingling cried for a while after seeing Huaji, and when Huaji asked her, she said tearfully: "After you left, I was alone here. The first day was okay, but on the second day, I started having nightmares. In my dream, a woman said that she would not rest in peace and wanted me to pay for her life with mine. That woman died a terrible death, her face was covered in blood and flesh, it was really scary."
"But that doesn't explain anything, I think you should go to the hospital and get some sleeping pills, after taking the medicine, you'll be fine after a good sleep." Huaji comforted.
Ling shook her head and continued, "No, it's not over! In the following days, I still felt like someone was following me on my way back, but I couldn't see anyone. At midnight, there would be sounds in the living room or your bedroom, as if someone was looking for something, but nothing has been lost these past few days. The neighbors downstairs also heard it, and the lights in your house have turned on several times, I saw them! Really! Yesterday, the neighbor upstairs said they saw the light and heard the sounds too! Huaji, what should we do? Is it really a ghost? What should I do, I'm so scared!"
Hua Qi became more and more confused as she listened. Since the light in her room was on and there were sounds, it meant that someone was coming for her, what did it have to do with Lingling? However, she hadn't been home for two days, so she couldn't confirm her thoughts. Therefore, she decided to investigate tonight.
Hua Qi pulled Ling Ling out of bed, washed her face thoroughly, changed into a new set of clothes, and took her out to eat something. By the time they returned, it was already dark. Ling Ling refused to go back home no matter what, but Hua Qi finally managed to persuade her to accompany him upstairs first, promising that he would just go grab some things before the two of them went to stay at Hua Ou's place.
Perhaps because the sun had set at night and the sunlight was insufficient, Huaji clearly felt that the temperature in the room at this time was not as high as when she had just eaten outside. Huaji did not rush to leave, but instead sat on the sofa with Lingling, waiting for Lingling's voice or the lights to turn on.
But after waiting for a long time, nothing appeared. Huaji comforted Lingling and said: "See, I told you it was just your imagination, it's already this late tonight and nothing has happened, so there must be nothing wrong, why don't you go back to sleep?"
Lingling refused to say anything, clearly she was already frightened. Just as the two people were insisting on their own views, the originally dark lamp in Huaji's room suddenly lit up, and this change also scared Huaji.
Hua Qi's heart was racing a bit, but in order to verify Lingling's words, she had to leave her alone and go check the room. Just as she reached the door, the lights really went out again.
Hua Qi hastily turned on the light, and there was nothing in the room, no one and no ghost. Hua Qi looked around at everything in the room with a puzzled expression. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew over, and Hua Qi subconsciously glanced towards the window, but her room's window wasn't open, and the air inside still had a musty smell from poor ventilation.
Hua Qi immediately returned to the living room, and the window in the living room was also closed. Just before leaving, Hua Qi had worried that someone might climb in through the window and had specifically closed it. So where did the wind come from? Was it really a ghost? Where was the ghost? Why didn't Hua Qi see anything? Not even feel the chill of its presence? At this moment, Hua Qi truly began to feel afraid.
Hua Qi and Ling Ling were leaning against each other on the sofa, dozing off with their heads nodding constantly as if they had taken sleeping pills. Neither of them dared to go back to their room to sleep.
The next morning, Huaji also had dark circles under her eyes. She hadn't slept well the whole night before, constantly worried that some sound would appear, but nothing did except for the lamp turning on as Huaji saw it, so the two of them just endured the night like this.
With a lackluster start to the day, Huaji walked home with a tired and helpless expression. As she walked, Huaji suddenly perked up because she felt like someone was behind her, just like Lingling had said - that feeling of being followed. But when Huaji turned around, there really wasn't anyone there.
Hua Qi's heart tightened with anxiety. Actually, if it were a ghost, she wouldn't be afraid; Hua Qi had seen many ghosts before, and truly malevolent ones were few in number. What she feared was that there might be real bad people lurking in the shadows, waiting to catch her off guard.
All the way back home, Huaji's heart beat faster and faster because she knew that if nothing happened on the road, something strange would happen at home. But after waiting for a while, the ghost didn't show up, instead Lingling came back with her boyfriend.
It wasn't until later that I found out her boyfriend had been away on a business trip. As soon as he heard about Lingling's incident, he came to the company to report in and after work his first task was to pick up Lingling from work. Lingling said she hadn't felt like she was being followed today, and Huaji exclaimed: "Of course you didn't! Because it was me who was being followed today!"
"What? How is this possible? I thought it was my boyfriend who came back and scared the ghost away! What are you going to do now, has the ghost possessed you?" Lingling said worriedly.
Huawei said with a smile: "It's okay, I'm not afraid of ghosts, but I'm afraid someone will pretend to be a ghost and scare people. You can sleep well tonight, nothing will happen. Tonight I'll go to my uncle's house, I think the ghost won't bother us."
Ling Ling said shyly: "No, it's too late and I don't feel at ease with you walking alone. Why don't we sleep in the same room tonight and let him sleep on the sofa instead? Is that okay?"
Hua Qi smiled and said in a low voice: "What's wrong with you, what are you afraid of? You've slept with him before, no need to hide it from me."
Ling's boyfriend, Xiao Chen, was smiling on the side with a "pure and innocent" look on his face, without expressing any opinion.
