28 All things have me
I slept so soundly that I didn't even go for lunch or dinner.
My uncle was very understanding, so he didn't force me to get up and let me sleep for a whole day.
It wasn't until the next morning when he was about to go to work that I finally dragged myself out of bed, having no choice but to get up as I had gone hungry for two meals and woken up because of it.
Uncle changed his clothes in the room, staring at me curiously, "Well, this sleep wasn't wasted, your complexion is much better than when you came back that day. How's it? Slept enough?"
I rubbed my growling stomach and asked with a silly grin, "Is there food? I'm starving."
"It seems like you've really recovered, not stupid, and still know how to eat." Adjusting his sleeve, he pointed at the large bowl on the dining table: "Go eat, there's noodles and dishes, should all still be hot, take your time eating, don't stuff yourself."
Knocked on my forehead and smiled dotingly as she went out the door.
My dear uncle, he is just like my own dad. I think that if my parents were still alive now, they would love me and care for me just as much as my uncle does.
After Uncle left, Ming Yan took out the file that Yuan Wei gave us that day and walked out of Uncle's room. Seeing me wake up, he first observed for a while before smiling and greeting: "Your spirit has improved a lot."
We looked at each other, he seemed to be recovering well too. We exchanged a smile, he sat on the sofa looking through some materials, while I went to fill my stomach first.
After all, humans are made of iron and steel, this can't be compared with ghosts that don't eat or drink.
He wolfed down two bowls of noodles, but still felt unsatisfied, and was about to pick up another serving with his chopsticks when Ming Yan suddenly appeared out of nowhere and stopped him. "You're already 80% full, you haven't eaten for two meals, this will ruin your stomach. Eat a little less frequently, digest for a while and eat again later, it's not too late?"
His hand hesitated for a moment when it touched mine. The weak sunlight shone down at an angle, just right on his hand, and his pale hand was suddenly scorched bright red. I turned my head to look at him, and found that his eyebrows were slightly furrowed, probably not feeling well either.
I immediately loosened my grip on the bowl and chopsticks, pulled him aside, pointed at his nose and scolded: "Are you crazy? Don't you know that you can't be exposed to light now just like other ghosts, why are you still being stubborn?"
He covered his hand with the documents and smiled indifferently, "After I recover, I can still be like before, it's nothing."
Kindness is not rewarded, it's self-inflicted, whatever!
I turned around with a pout, rubbed my belly, and muttered to myself. Although I still wanted to eat, Ming Yan was right, it's better to have small frequent meals. No big deal, I'll just snack on something in a bit to tie me over.
I put down the bowl and chopsticks, walked out of the kitchen, and looked at him studying the materials with his head down. I was so captivated by him that I stood there in a daze. It wasn't until he raised his head that I suddenly realized I had been staring blankly, and I shifted my gaze to wipe the table. As I cleaned up, I asked, "How much have you read? What's our next step?"
Everyone is dead, the living don't give answers, only provide materials, I really don't know what to do. I don't have an IQ of 200, nor am I a detective reasoning expert, can't you see that this is difficult for me?! Now I can only hand things over to Ming Yan, this guy has been in the world for so long, his experience and experience must be very rich, plus he used to follow a clever master, should have some means.
Let him handle it, I'll just be a medium, no need to show off if you don't have the ability.
He closed the file without answering me, and only spoke after a moment of contemplation: "Take a rest today, tomorrow we'll go to Liu Sheng's neighborhood to ask around and see if there are any clues. Although Yuan Lei said that Liu Sheng is just an errand boy, I think he's hiding something from us that he hasn't told us. What I mean is about the things not mentioned in this file, such as what did he do before? Where was he making a living?"
I gritted my teeth in annoyance, "This Yuan Lei is really a troublemaker. He wants to clear his daughter's name but doesn't want to reveal his own secrets. Infuriating. If I had known it would be so troublesome, I wouldn't have gotten involved."
Ming Yan looked very calm, or rather he was already used to such troubles. As I had guessed, he wasn't anxious either, but patiently comforted me: "This matter can't be rushed, after all we're not police officers, we don't have the right to interrogate him and make him confess unwillingly. Moreover, even if the police don't have evidence, they wouldn't dare do anything to the suspect, would they? But we can investigate on our own, and when we put the truth in front of him, he'll tell us everything he should confess."
I furrowed my brow with a face full of regret, and simply pulled over a chair to lean on the table, complaining nonstop.
"It's already so troublesome from the start, isn't it going to be even more troublesome later on?"
"I'll help you, don't worry, dangerous things won't happen again in the future, I've got everything under control."
I lifted my head, gazing at those lively eyes, and nodded in agreement without much resistance. It was a sign of approval for his words, as there was no turning back now, and one should see things through to the end once they've agreed to do something, giving up halfway wasn't my style.
