Chapter 67: Abandoning the Frightened Soul
As I approached the door of the house, I reached out and pulled it a few times, only to find that it was also locked.
I really feel like crying, as if the whole world has abandoned me. I don't know what's going on. It's okay to lose a person, but how can such a big orphanage be closed just like that? Logically speaking, my mother-in-law should have told me about it!
After being dazed for a while, I felt that this wouldn't do. If I left like this, I would have completely lost the truth. I had to go in and take a look, maybe there would be some clues left behind.
Thinking of this, I started circling around the house. This place is very familiar to me, and it feels like I've returned home, but now there's not a single family member left.
After circling around to the back of the house, I found that there was a window on the first floor that was covered. I stretched out my hand and gently pushed it, and the window opened.
I threw away the things I was holding in my hands, and with a bit of effort, I crawled inside. Looking around, it turned out to be our principal's office when I lived here.
A thick layer of dust had settled on the desk, and scraps of paper were scattered all over the floor. It seemed that no one had been there for a really long time.
I picked up some scraps of paper to take a look, and found that most of them were blank, but some had a big "dream" character written on them, while others had a vague human figure drawn with a pencil.
Look at that figure, it should be a man, very tall, can't see his face, holding a lantern-like object in his hand, don't know what it is.
I stared at the character "dream" and the figure for a long time, but still couldn't make any sense of it. I really didn't understand who wrote the word and drew the picture, or what their purpose was in doing so.
After searching the director's office for half a day, no more clues were found. The paper with the human figure was folded and put into his pocket, and he pushed the door to leave.
Outside the door is a transparent large hall on the first floor of the orphanage, which was generally where I held meetings when I was young. It's no different from the last time I came here. The walls are hung with various medals and streamers, and everything is quietly placed in its original position.
It's broad daylight, but I don't know if it's just my imagination, coming here gives me goosebumps all over, and I feel like no sunlight can penetrate, the whole hall looks somewhat gloomy.
I went around the first floor again, checking all the rooms, and had a faint feeling that something was off. Logically speaking, if they decided to abandon this orphanage, it would be normal to just pack up and leave.
But I found that all the rooms were very messy, and most of the household items were scattered all over the place, as if a thief had entered the house.
I couldn't understand for a moment, so I continued up the stairs to the second floor.
This floor is all classrooms for kids to study, I casually found a room and walked in, only to see that the tables, chairs, and benches were all overturned on the ground, and book fragments were thrown everywhere.
Look up again, and see that the blackboard is scribbled with chalk, and it's impossible to tell what was drawn.
I walked forward and examined it carefully for a while, only to see that the blackboard also had a faintly drawn figure of a person.
My heart skipped a beat as I quickly took out the piece of paper from my pocket to take a look. Comparing them, I immediately started feeling a chill run down my spine - the silhouette on the paper and the one on the blackboard were almost identical.
This is really strange, what on earth happened that made the originally good orphanage suddenly become like this?
Why is the room so messy, as if a violent disturbance had occurred and everyone had evacuated in an emergency?
What puzzles me most is who this blurry figure is and why it's the same person on both the blackboard and paper.
I studied for half a day and still couldn't figure it out, so I had to check all the classrooms on the second floor again. The result made me more and more panicked, because almost every classroom was in a similar state of disarray.
Looking out the window, the sun was about to set, and the light in the house dimmed a bit. I didn't bother to study anymore and went straight up to the third floor.
The third floor was the children's bedroom, this time I didn't go to check each room one by one, but ran directly to the room where I lived when I was a kid. As soon as I walked in, I was dumbfounded.
I originally thought my room would be a mess, but unexpectedly, after entering, I found that all the decorations and bedding in the room were neatly arranged. When I touched it with my hand, I found that there was not even a speck of dust on the table.
I walked to the bedside and touched the neatly stacked bedding. Logically, this orphanage has been abandoned for so long that the remaining bedding should be quite damp, but these beddings were extremely dry, as if someone had been airing and tidying them regularly.
It's really freaking scary...
After all this commotion, I'm a bit tired. Fortunately, sitting on my own bed, I've thought through everything from start to finish.
Before, I thought that this time everyone disappeared, including the abandonment of this orphanage, was all man-made. It should be that these people encountered some urgent and unmanageable things, which would lead to such a result.
But now I always feel that something is wrong, thinking of the mysterious figure on the blackboard, I feel that all my hairs are standing up, things have developed to this point, it's really getting weirder and weirder.
I thought about it for a long time, but still had no clue, and then I felt dizzy, and in a daze, I fell onto the bed and gradually fell asleep.
……
In the house that was originally unusually quiet, a terrified scream suddenly came out. I ran out of the room to check, but heard the continuous bell sound "Dong, Dong, Dong, Dong".
Lowering his head to look, he saw that the large clock hanging above the front door of the first floor was exactly at 12 o'clock in the evening, and the sound was coming from this big clock.
It's really strange, since I started working here, I've known that this bell is actually just a decoration, no one has ever taken care of it, and I've never heard it ring.
But now it inexplicably strikes the time over there, and I am the only one in the entire orphanage, this scene really makes me feel a little creepy.
Just as I was at a loss for what to do, I suddenly heard continuous crying and shouting coming from the second floor, all of which were children's voices.
At this time, I was completely confused in my heart. I quickly went down the stairs to the second floor. After seeing the scene on the second floor clearly, I almost fainted from fright.
The second floor is now in a state of utter chaos, with groups of children wearing uniforms dashing out of the classrooms and shouting as they scatter in all directions.
I quickly grabbed a child and asked: "What's wrong, what's wrong, what happened?"
I grabbed a girl, and at this moment, I saw her suddenly turn her head towards me. The child had no expression, staring at me for a while, and slowly, I saw blood flowing from her eyes, nose, and mouth.
What's going on? I pushed her away and started running in the opposite direction towards the chaotic crowd.
I ran a few steps and caught up with another boy, asking loudly: "What are you running for? What's wrong!!!"
But the boy turned around and didn't say a word, his facial expression was as if it had frozen in place. I thought that maybe his eyes and nose would also start bleeding, but what happened next to this child scared me so much that I fell to the ground.
The boy I grabbed started to appear a red line on his neck, and finally the whole head was cut off by a sharp knife, slowly falling to the ground with a gurgling sound, in front of me a headless neck, spraying blood.
"Ah......ahhhhhh......" I sat on the ground, hugging my own head, and started screaming loudly like a madman, feeling like I was going to die from the pain...
Save me, save me...
I let out a loud cry and jumped up from the bed, my terrified hands clutching at my hair as I looked around wildly. By the faint moonlight, I vaguely realized that I was still in my own room, and what had just happened was merely a nightmare.
Good heavens... I woke up to find my clothes completely drenched in sweat, and I asked myself in astonishment what was going on. How did I suddenly fall asleep, and have such a terrifying nightmare?
I sat back on the bed, taking deep breaths to calm myself down. I then took out my newly bought phone to check the time, but found that the screen wouldn't turn on no matter how hard I pressed it. After a long press, there was still no response, so I figured it must be out of battery.
I got out of bed and went to turn on the light switch at the door with the moonlight, but after pressing it several times, the bulb still didn't light up.
Heart's voice: I must leave quickly, this place is too eerie. If something really happens, with just me alone, it will be more harm than good.
Thinking of this, he didn't waste any more time, pushed open the door and walked out, and as soon as he entered his eyes saw a completely dark large hall, with only some dim red moonlight shining through some gaps in the doors and windows, the entire orphanage was like a haunted house, looking extremely terrifying.
I plucked up my courage and ran upstairs to the second floor, and as soon as I stepped onto the floor of the second floor, I suddenly heard a loud "Dong, Dong, Dong" sound. Lowering my head to take a look, a ray of moonlight was shining on the large clock above the door on the first floor, and the clock was pointing exactly at midnight twelve o'clock.
My god... what's going on, what's happening? The cold sweat I just stopped has flowed down my face again, am I still dreaming?
As I thought of this, I quickly stretched out my hand and gave myself a hard slap in the face. This slap was extremely forceful, and with a loud "slap" sound, I felt a sharp pain on one side of my face.
This isn't a dream! I found myself in a completely awake state, but what's going on here? How did that big clock ring out of the blue just like in my dream?
At this point, I was so scared that I could hardly hold on, and there was no time to think about it. I immediately prepared myself to muster up the courage to rush downstairs and escape from this haunted house, or else I would collapse.
Just as I was about to go downstairs from the second floor, I suddenly felt a gust of cold wind blowing over, and when I turned my head to look at the row of classrooms next to me, I saw that almost all the doors were pushed open at the same time. Then I felt wave after wave of cold wind blowing past my ears, as if many people were running, but in front of me was empty and deserted, not a single person was there.
I've completely lost control of my emotions, and I loudly shouted at the open classroom door: "Who is it? Who's there? If you have guts, come out here, I'll...!"
