Chapter 31: The Whole Body Disappears
Liang Zi listened to me and also nervously stared at the dark place, we both looked for a while, feeling nothing unusual, guessing that guy had already left, only then did we feel slightly relieved.
Zhou Huan came out of the tent and took out a relatively large flashlight from somewhere, turned on the dazzling light and shone it around.
The searchlight's illumination range is very far, I followed her light to see that the surrounding trees are extremely clear. When passing by a big tree, Liangzi suddenly shouted: "Hey, go back!"
The spotlight of Zhou Huan retreated a bit, illuminating the upper half of the big tree very clearly. Amidst the dense foliage, a commotion was seen, and the strange creature emerged.
This time it was much clearer than when I saw it in the attic, as if a person crouched on a tree, completely naked and emaciated, with exposed ribs, a pale big pancake face, using eyes that were completely devoid of spirit, staring straight at us.
It seems to be very sensitive to light, crouching on the tree like a dead object. Zhou Huan asked me: "Qiu Ye, what is this thing? Is it a strange monkey?"
"No, absolutely not, I don't know what it is specifically, but it appeared in the attic of my house before."
"Your home... you mean your home..." Zhou Huan was clearly very surprised.
I also find this matter somewhat unbelievable. Continuing on, "From now on when I talk to you, the current problem is what should we do? Should we just stare at each other like this?"
Liang Zi immediately came over and said: "Little sister-in-law, what are you waiting for? Tell your men to open fire!"
"Wait a minute, I think something is off."
"Of course it's not right, so we must take the initiative."
While the two were talking, I saw the monster's lips moving vaguely, as if someone was speaking in a low voice. I stared at its mouth and saw that it seemed to be saying: "Hurry, afraid, hurry, afraid."
This is simply too weird, I'm already scared to death, what's the hurry?
No, I immediately had an epiphany, that monster didn't say "kuài pà" (fear of being fast), it said "kuài pǎo" (run quickly)...
Thinking of this, I quickly turned around and asked Zhou Huan: "Did you see that? What should we do?"
Zhou Huan apparently didn't understand what I meant, so when I saw him frowning, I quickly explained my discovery to him again. Then we went to look at the strange creature and saw it dart into a thicket and disappear.
Just then, a heart-wrenching scream suddenly came from the darkness on our left side, followed by a rustling sound of trees rubbing against each other.
"What's going on? Who is there?" Zhou Huan's face changed greatly as he asked loudly.
I was also startled by the sound. Looking around, I saw that all nine of us were there, which made it even stranger - who could have let out such a miserable cry? Were there other people in the woods?
"Let's take a look..." Zhou Huan said, and then saw the black-faced captain holding his gun and leading the way towards the direction of the sound. The other team members followed closely behind him.
I don't know why, but I always feel like something is off somewhere. Seeing that they all left, I didn't dare stay behind either, so I followed along with Liangzi.
As soon as I walked out of the camp and into the woods, my line of sight was immediately obstructed. The trees here are very dense, and no matter how bright the light is, it will be blocked.
Not far in the direction I just went, that miserable cry came again. I heard my whole body cold, as if someone was attacked by something, very urgent and tragic.
"Hurry, everyone follow up..." The black-faced captain shouted to the crowd, quickening his pace and running forward. I and Liangzi didn't even take out our small flashlights, closely following the chaotic light ahead, while also paying attention not to bump into trees at any moment.
This way, the speed slowed down a lot. The lights were getting farther and farther away, and Liangzi didn't even know where he was running to. I immediately started to get nervous, thinking: If I'm left behind, with nothing in my hands, it would be big trouble if I encountered danger.
Just as I was stunned, the light in front of me almost disappeared. I was about to shout at Liangzi to wait, when I heard various miserable cries coming from the direction behind me, probably around the campsite. This time it wasn't just one person, but rather many people being attacked at the same time.
Then I felt that the woods were full of the sound of trees rubbing against each other, and faintly, it seemed like someone was shouting "Help", and I immediately panicked.
"What's going on? How did so many people suddenly appear? And what exactly attacked them that they're screaming like this?"
I don't dare run anymore, I'm completely lost. Looking around at the pitch-black surroundings, they're almost all the same, and I can't tell which direction to go.
I leaned against a large tree with the faint moonlight shining in, panting heavily and staring intently ahead. I was just about to curse that bastard Liangzi for abandoning me when I heard a rustling above my head on the tree. I looked up but couldn't see anything, only hearing the sound. I quickly left the tree and started running forward mindlessly.
I ran out for a few steps, and then I heard the rustling sound of fallen leaves on the ground behind me, just like a big snake was chasing me. I completely lost control, shouting "Mom, mom..." in my mouth, desperately looking for a hollow tree to drill into.
The sound behind me was getting closer and closer, I didn't step on it steadily and fell to the ground with a thud. Fortunately, the ground was all rotten leaves and I wasn't hurt much. I scolded myself as a waste, just wanting to get up and continue escaping, but my ankle felt like it was being pulled by something, dragging me backwards...
"My god, what's going on, save me......" I shouted and screamed as I was quickly pulled backwards, my hands desperately grabbing everywhere until I grabbed a small tree, and with one effort, I stopped myself.
Something was pulling me from behind with great force, I felt like the blood vessels in my arms were going to burst out, desperately clinging on and not letting go, after a stalemate for a while, my entire body was pulled into a stick-like shape, amazingly floating off the ground, and getting higher and higher, just like something was pulling me up a tree.
Biting his teeth and turning his head back to look, he saw that the hand pulling him was not a ghostly creature, but rather something like a white rope, though it couldn't be seen clearly.
The tighter it gets, the more chaotic it becomes. Just then, a "crack" sound is heard from in front, and that small tree may not be able to withstand this force, and was actually pulled apart by me. My body immediately fell to the ground, without any pause, and was dragged backwards.
Slowly but surely, my lower body was getting higher and higher, as if something wanted to pull me up the tree. I quickly continued to grab randomly, but this time I didn't catch anything.
At this time, a gunshot was heard from a relatively distant place. I thought to myself, "Could it be that someone is sending me a signal?" So I shouted loudly: "I'm over here! Help! Save me! Liangzi..."
Just after a few shouts, the sound of gunfire filled the air, accompanied by some mournful cries. The surrounding woods were in disarray, and it seemed that others had also been attacked.
After going through so many near-death experiences, I definitely won't give up now. My two hands have never stopped moving, still wanting to grasp a lifesaving straw.
Just as I was about to go up, my hands were just about to leave the ground when I finally grabbed onto something, and my body stopped again.
Just as I thought of grasping tightly with both hands, I suddenly felt something was off: why did it feel like I wasn't grabbing a tree or weeds, but rather an icy cold and stiff hand...
I looked up and saw a withered black hand grasping mine, and a pale face staring at me intently. The eyes were dull and lifeless, like those of a dead man. I let out a terrified cry and nearly fainted.
I immediately realized that the big pancake face was pulling me, and I was completely flustered. It was impossible to let go of my hand now, as I was being tightly pulled by unknown monsters from both front and back. At this rate, I estimated that it wouldn't take long for me to be torn in half.
Just as I was thinking that not accepting my fate wouldn't work either, the big pancake face contorted, that strange mouth slowly opened, and a row of pitch-black sharp teeth appeared. I didn't dare look anymore, closed my eyes and waited to be slaughtered. Then I felt the hand pulling mine exerting force, and surprisingly pulled my body onto the ground.
I felt the big pancake face towards my back, one hand grasped my ankle, and then I heard a "crack" sound. The rope that was pulling me seemed to be broken. Just as I wanted to turn my head to see what happened, I felt something heavy hit the back of my neck, and everything went black...
I don't know how long it's been since I fell asleep, but I woke up in a daze and felt pain all over my body. I didn't have any strength left, so I rested for a while before slowly opening my eyes to find that my line of sight was blocked by something, and there were things falling into my eyes.
My hands and feet felt a bit better, so I used my powerful hands to support myself on the ground and sat up with my upper body. To my surprise, I found that I was in a small cave, and now my body was among a pile of rotten leaves, which were very thick and wrapped around my entire body.
This is really too strange, what kind of place is this? I tried to recall the events of last night, first getting lost, then being pulled over, and then there was a big bun, where did the big bun's face go?
As I thought of this, I suddenly jumped up and looked around nervously, only to find that the cave was very small, with nothing but me and a pile of rotten leaves inside. The entrance was blocked by some branches, and some dazzling light shone in, obviously it was already daylight outside.
I inexplicably spun around in a circle again, using my feet to kick away the pile of leaves, and only after confirming that I was alone in the hole did I push aside the branches and walk out.
I was immediately dazzled by the glaring sunlight, and I raised my hand to shield my eyes. After adapting to it, I began to take in my surroundings. It turned out to be a bright and sunny morning, with various birds chirping everywhere. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful, making it impossible to imagine the terrifying experience of last night in the deep forest.
The cave I came out of is located on the middle slope of a mountain, looking up can't see the top, and when looking down, surprisingly found that our campsite is at the foot of this mountain, but no one's shadow was seen, those tents were quietly placed there.
I picked up a wooden stick and quickly walked down the mountain. The morning dew was heavy, and my pants were soon soaked, but I didn't care. I just kept walking in what felt like the right direction. After a while, I heard the sound of running water, and before long, I arrived at the riverbank.
As I walked down along the river, everything became more and more familiar. Finally, I arrived at the center of the campsite. I ran to a tent and felt a chill in my heart. After checking all the tents, I completely lost hope. Not a single person was there; everyone had vanished...
