Chapter 6: The Corpse with Five Eyes

Chapter 6: The Corpse with Five Eyes

Liang Zi suddenly slammed on the brakes and stopped, I wasn't paying attention and directly bumped into his back, scolding: "Are you sick! Hurry up and run!"

He turned around with a puzzled expression and said, "You... didn't understand?" I hesitated and asked, "Understood, isn't it just saying 'I love you' in English?"

"What the...!" Liangzi looked at me as if I was crazy, saying: "Obviously you said 'come quickly, I have it'." I thought to myself that there's nothing left, and just as I was about to hurry him along, that faint voice sounded again, vaguely seeming to say "Come quickly, I have it". Looks like I'm a bit schizoid, how could I have misheard it as English?

Liangzi looked at us with a somewhat unwilling expression and said, "We almost died in this damned place last night. To return empty-handed doesn't suit my style, does it? Why don't we go take a look and see what's there? If it's something good, we'll take it; if it's trash, we'll get rid of it."

The old road heard that there was a treasure and came in spirit, also shouting to go back and take a look. I'm really curious! Although I clearly know it's dangerous, but still can't help the curiosity, and feel that on such a sunny day, there shouldn't be any monsters or ghosts anymore. So everyone turned around and walked back again.

Liangzi crouched beside the "manhole cover" and stretched out his thumb to press on the indentation, but after a while, there was no reaction. He muttered in puzzlement: "What's going on? This thing is still fingerprint-locked! Qiu Ye, you come and deal with it."

I also had no idea what the principle was, so I tried pressing my right thumb again, and immediately felt a dizziness. The 'manhole cover' really flipped over again, and as soon as I recovered normally, I found that everyone was staring at me like a monster.

"It seems that a virgin's fingers are more useful, mine may not work since they have touched too many women."

I retorted back at him, "You're the virgin!" while also turning on my flashlight and shining it into the hole. Suddenly, another inexplicable thing happened - I found that the hole which was previously bottomless and pitch black, now had a stone-paved floor faintly visible under the light of my flashlight. The eerie sound never appeared again.

I don't know what the reason was, but when I saw this cave entrance this time, I had a strong desire to go down, but we didn't have any ropes on us either. Just as I was thinking about what to do, I saw Liangzi taking off his jacket over there, and I immediately understood what he meant and started taking off my clothes too.

The four of us took off our jackets and tore them into strips to make a simple rope, which was estimated to be over ten meters long. The quality of the camouflage uniforms was very good, and it should be able to withstand the weight of one person without any problems.

Liangzi said, "Let's pull the rope and I'll go down first to take a look." I said, "You're too heavy, it'll be troublesome for you to come back up, let me go instead!" Then Liubao said to us, "You two don't need to fight over this. We've both been injured before, but I'm fine. Besides, I'm lighter in weight, if anything happens, you can just pull me back up quickly."

I thought about what Liu Bao said and nodded in agreement. Liang Zi tied one end of the rope to Liu Bao's hand and the other end to his own hand. I felt that although it was a bit inappropriate, it was also the most economical way to use the rope. Anyway, the hole didn't seem very deep.

Liubao's legs went into the hole first, then I followed with my flashlight and rope, slowly lowering myself down. The tight rope had gone halfway when it suddenly loosened up. I vaguely saw Liubao reaching the bottom, shining his light around to examine the surroundings. I loudly asked him what was going on below, he looked up at me and waved for us to come down too.

It seems that there is no danger below, so I and Lao Lu pulled the rope together to lower the beam down first, then I let Lao Lu receive it above while I also climbed down into the hole.

After going down, I found that it was a rectangular stone room, just like the basement of an old house. There was nothing in the entire stone room, and under the flashlight, it was just black walls.

What's going on here? What's the point of setting up this empty stone room? Is it a cellar? And where did the sound we heard earlier come from?

Just as I was wondering, I saw Liang Zi standing by the wall at the far end of the corridor shouting to me: "Qiu Da Ye Ren, hurry up and come over to take a look. This place has another fingerprint lock, it's estimated that only your masculine hand can work."

I didn't have time to argue with him, and as I walked over, I saw that there was indeed another thumb-sized indentation on this wall, the dust inside was almost full, if you weren't careful, it would be hard to find, and this wall seemed to be a stone gate.

I was pondering why only my hand could open the mechanism and every time I did, I felt dizzy when I heard Liangzi say: "What are you studying? Hurry up and open the door! Let's take a look at what it has!"

Anyway, the things that have happened in the past few days are all weird. I couldn't figure it out and just didn't think about it anymore. I raised my thumb and pressed it in. After a dizziness and a sound of machinery rushing, this stone door actually rose straight up. After shining the flashlight, I saw an absolutely unexpected scene.

In front of us was a relatively small space, and a corpse larger than Liangzi's build sat on a stone chair facing us, with the painting we had seen earlier hanging neatly behind it.

All three of us live in modern cities, we have seen dead people before, but no one has experienced such an environment with a large corpse sitting like this. Although I clearly know it's daytime outside, I just don't dare to go over, and when I shine the flashlight on the corpse, I find that he is wearing a black veil hat on his head, and his face can't be seen at all.

Liang Zibiao suddenly said: "My god, isn't this the beekeeper that Old Lao met when he was young? How did he end up dead here?"

I and Liu Bao were too lazy to bother with this unscrupulous guy, I thought that we couldn't just stand there like that, since we came all the way here we should at least figure something out. So I plucked up my courage and quietly walked closer to the corpse, using the flashlight in my hand to lift the black veil off its face. Because the flashlight was shining brightly, its face became particularly clear. As soon as I saw it, I let out a loud shriek and retreated backward, immediately bumping into Liangzi's belly behind me.

"What's wrong with you? Does this guy look like me or something?" Liang Zi asked, patting my shoulder.

"I'm going to his mother, it's really just one appearance." Liangzi heard my answer and shouted: "What?" Then he pushed me away and walked up to pull down the veil of the corpse. I took a look and was shocked again. How could this be like me? The person sitting on top is clearly Liangzi!

Just as I was still in a state of shock, I felt someone slapping my face and immediately heard a familiar voice saying: "Wake up, wake up, what's wrong with you? Why are you dizzy?"

As soon as I opened my eyes, I found myself lying on the ground. Liangzi was supporting my head and slapping my face, while Liu Bao was standing beside me. The three of us were still in the same place, and I hadn't even gone to lift the veil off the corpse's face. Had I been too tired last night and fainted, having a nightmare?

Although I knew it was a dream, but I still felt very bad in my heart, so I said to the two of them, why don't we go back, it's better not to touch these things.

Li Zili immediately stopped, with an expressionless face, and said to me: "Let's go back. Since we've come all the way here, we should at least take a look at what's going on. At the very least, that painting should be taken away. What did we come out for this time?"

After finishing, he didn't pay attention to me anymore and walked straight up, stretched out his hand and directly lifted the corpse's bamboo hat veil. "Damn it, what is this?" Then I saw Liangzi take two steps back in a row, stretching out his hand to touch his knife.

I thought to myself, could it be that his mother is actually identical to one of us? I took a closer look and almost fainted again. What I saw was indeed the face of one of our people, but at least I had some mental preparation for that. However, what I'm seeing now is simply, utterly bizarre.

This corpse surprisingly had no facial features, to be exact, it had no nose and mouth. Although there were five holes on the face, and their positions were all correct, but these positions were all filled with eyes of different sizes, and what's most terrifying was that these eyes were all open, and you could clearly see the eyeballs inside.

Liang Zi retreated to our side, he and Liu Bao were also scared enough, both of them held their knives in hand, ready to attack at any moment. I also got up and started touching my knife, thinking that no matter what kind of monster you are, the three of us fighting one still have a few chances of winning.

After waiting for a while, the corpse didn't make any movement, and everyone's heart calmed down a bit. Originally, they should have turned around and left at this time, but Liangzi still had his mind on that painting. No matter how I persuaded him, it was useless. The three of them could only walk past the wall, preparing to take the painting.

As I approached, I saw that the thing was indeed dead, as its exposed hands and feet had withered away. I felt that this should be a man's corpse, but I didn't know why there were five eyes growing on his face, and although the skin on his face wasn't as smooth as a normal person's, it still seemed out of proportion to his withered hands and feet.

Liangzi had already taken down the painting and rolled it up, and with a flourish, said to me that we could leave now. So we leaned against the wall and exited this small space, preparing to quickly crawl out of the cave and be done with it. I really didn't want to see that eerie face again.

As I walked to the entrance of the cave and looked up, I saw Lao Lu stretching his head down anxiously. I asked him to pull Siu Bao up first, then Liangzi told me to go up next. Just as I grabbed the rope with one hand, for some reason, I used my other hand to shine the flashlight on that strange corpse. As soon as the light shone on it, I felt something was off. Upon closer inspection, this five-eyed monster seemed to be slowly standing up.

Right after that, we heard a loud and piercing scream. Liangzi yelled at me, "It's bad, the ugly freak is coming to get painted, quickly pull the rope!" Liu Bao and Lao Lu didn't know what happened either, but they knew it couldn't be anything good, so they pulled me up with the fastest speed.

After I came up, I threw the rope back, and after Liangzi grabbed it, the three of us pulled upwards with all our might. When we were about halfway up, we couldn't pull anymore, and it clearly felt much heavier than before. Then I felt the rope shaking violently, followed by Liangzi's voice: "Come on, guys, use your strength! Don't let go... Ah, damn it, you ugly freak, stop pulling my leg!"
