Chapter 14 Car Accident 14

  Chapter 14 Car Accident 14

Qin Fei fell asleep and had a muddled dream. In the dream, someone told him to find a woman and also go to a place that seemed like a desolate wilderness. The dream was very unclear and illogical, and when Qin Fei woke up, although he still remembered the general content, he couldn't recall whether he was supposed to find the woman or go to the wilderness, or even if it was about finding the woman in the wilderness.

November 8th, the beginning of winter, had a more obvious drop in temperature, and finally felt like winter was coming. Qin Fei got up early, opened the door to walk onto the balcony, but was frozen stiff, quickly retreating back into the house, adding another layer of clothing before heading to the kitchen to make breakfast.

The night before, although he was chased by a fierce ghost for half the street, Qin Fei still brought back home safely the frozen dumplings he had bought at the supermarket. After cooking the dumplings, however, Qin Fei didn't have much of an appetite and just felt dizzy in his head, eating only a few dumplings before being unable to eat any more.

Qin Fei guessed that he probably caught a cold again after wandering around outside last night. He still had some of the cold medicine he bought previously, so Qin Fei decided to take it first and see how things went before going to the hospital if necessary.

After putting on his coat, Qin Fei went out to the book bar.

The temperature dropped that day, and the wind was particularly strong. Qin Fei had just walked out of the neighborhood when he was blown by the cold wind and sneezed twice. He shrank his neck and quickened his pace, wanting to get to the bookstore as soon as possible to avoid the invasion of the cold wind.

Qin Fei walked for a while, and when he thought he should arrive at the bookstore, he still didn't see the sign of Weichen Bookstore. Moreover, the surrounding buildings were not near his bookstore either. Qin Fei was taken aback, took a closer look, and found himself on a street far away from Weichen Bookstore. This street was called Qu Nan Road, and to get here from his residence, he would have had to walk in the opposite direction of Weichen Bookstore. But he clearly remembered walking towards Weichen Bookstore, so why did he end up on Qu Nan Road when he came back to his senses?

Qin Fei's confusion didn't last long, and after standing at the fork in the road for a moment, he saw a small figure standing in the shade of the wall on the small path leading into the alley. It was Jiajia, the fierce ghost he had encountered just last night.

Just as Qin Fei saw the figure in the shadow, he felt that the temperature around him had dropped to an icy point. Qin Fei only felt that his entire body was frozen, his reflex nerves were numb and slow, and his control over his body seemed to have been lost, making it impossible for him to turn around and escape like last night.

Qin Fei was forced to stare at the little ghost, but as he looked for a long time, he felt that the eerie feeling on the little ghost's body seemed much weaker than last night, and the violent anger and resentment of last night also faded a lot. Was this his illusion, or just because it was daytime now?

However, what's on this little devil's body is not important, what's important is what this little devil wants to do?

He would inexplicably walk onto this curved road, obviously because of that little ghost. The vengeful spirit harming people to demand their lives was something he had heard Zhang Zhixin mention more than once, but now he was already here, yet the little ghost still stood there motionless, simply staring straight at him. Qin Fei was stared at by her like this, and last night's idea once again floated up in his mind - it seemed that this little ghost might have something to say to him.

Qin Fei had just thought of this when he saw the little ghost who had been staring at him finally make a move. He saw her raise her arm with stiff and unnatural movements, making a gesture pointing towards the northwest direction.

What does it mean? Qin Fei turned his head and looked in the direction that little ghost was pointing. Northwest direction? Is there something over there?

"Qin Xiaofei, what are you doing here?" Just as Qin Fei was pondering the meaning of the little ghost's words, he heard a voice behind him that belonged to Song Meng.

Qin Fei turned his head and saw Song Meng carrying a bag of buns, eating while walking towards him. Zhou Jun was walking beside Song Meng, leaning on his crutch with one hand.

Qin Fei subconsciously turned his head to look towards the small path where the little ghost was, but found that there was no sign of it anymore. His body, which had just felt like it was frozen stiff and unable to move, had already recovered, as if the stiffness he felt earlier was just an illusion.

Qin Fei suddenly turned his head to look at the small fork in the road, and Song Meng naturally noticed Qin Fei's movement. After walking to Qin Fei's side, he followed his gaze to look at the small road, but didn't find anything special.

"What are you looking at?" Song Meng asked curiously.

"Nothing." Qin Fei shook his head and asked instead, "What are you doing here?"

"Jia Jia... it's that missing person case we're handling, the missing girl's family lives around here. Jia Jia's mother wants to know about our investigation progress, although we haven't found any leads yet. But since Jia Jia's mother hasn't been in good spirits lately, her husband asked me to come over and try to comfort her as much as possible." Zhou Jun said, his tone filled with helplessness and sympathy.

"It's because she had a nightmare last night that we were called over so early." Song Meng shrugged, "I think the lady actually needs a psychologist rather than a detective."

Qin Fei ignored Song Meng's complaints and thoughtfully looked in the direction where the little ghost was earlier. So, that girl's home is around here? He felt like he could understand what the little ghost meant by shouting "mom" last night, but when he tried to figure out the specific meaning, it was still a bit short. If the little ghost wanted him to take her to find her mother, then since she can appear here, it means she doesn't need his help with this matter. Maybe there's still a connection with the northwest direction she pointed earlier... But what does the northwest direction mean?

"Hey! What's wrong with you?" Song Meng stretched out his chubby paw and waved it in front of Qin Fei's eyes, "Snap out of it! You still haven't answered me, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be heading to class at this time?"

Neither Song Meng nor Zhou Jun would believe this answer. Qin Fei remained silent for a moment before saying: "I was taking a walk."

"You still have the habit of going for a walk in the early morning? Are you kidding me!" Song Meng muttered, munching on his bun.

As for why Qin Fei appeared on Qu Nan Road, Song Meng only made a few sarcastic remarks about Qin Fei's answer and didn't pursue it further. Song Meng and Zhou Jun were planning to head back to the law firm after leaving the girl's house, and coincidentally, Qin Fei, who had been tricked into coming to this area by that little devil, also wanted to return home, so the three of them walked together along the way.

They arrived at Weichen Bookstore, and Song Pengzi had just finished eating a bag of buns. After casually throwing the paper bag into the trash can, he didn't go upstairs to the office, but instead followed Zhou Jun and Qin Fei into the bookstore. Qin Fei was late, and when they entered, Shen Wei, Xie Zhe, and He Shidong had already finished their morning cleaning work.

"Xiao Weiwei, I want milk tea." Song Meng entered the book bar and saw that there were no customers inside. He spotted Shen Wei and called out to her as usual.

"You're not going to die from being fat!" This time, it wasn't Shen Wei who was teasing Song Meng, but rather Gu Wenkai, who was standing behind the bookshelf, flipping through a book and out of Song Meng's line of sight. He beat Shen Wei to speaking up.

"Huh? Gu Wenkai? What are you doing here?" Song Meng sat down on the chair in front of the bar, turning his body to talk to Gu Wenkai, "Sneaking out again using your position as an excuse?"

"Today is Sunday, I'm resting!" Gu Wenkai gave Song Meng a glance, put the book in his hand back on the bookshelf, and walked towards the crowd. After greeting Zhou Jun, he looked at Qin Fei. It was clear that Gu Wenkai had come to find Qin Fei this time.

However, when Gu Wenkai's gaze fell on Qin Fei's face, he furrowed his brow. Qin Fei's complexion wasn't very good; ordinary people might have thought he was just in poor physical condition, but Gu Wenkai saw a hint of ghostly energy on him, an obvious sign that he was being haunted by an evil spirit.

But so many ordinary people are normal, Gu Wenkai didn't ask Qin Fei what was going on at the time, he could only take out the amulet from his pocket and hand it to Qin Fei, saying: "My brother gave it to you."

Qin Fei was taken aback, and immediately remembered that Gu Yin had indeed said last night that he would make a protective charm for him, didn't expect it to be so soon, he thought he would wait until the day they agreed on.

Gu Wenkai looked at Qin Fei after receiving the amulet, and couldn't help but reveal a curious expression on his face. This amulet was something that Gu Yin had called him over early in the morning to bring over and give to Qin Fei, and he had been very curious as to why his big brother had suddenly become so kind-hearted, but he didn't dare ask. However, with Qin Fei here, he wasn't afraid to ask anything.

Gu Wenkai stretched out his hand and pulled Qin Fei to the side of a bookshelf, asking in a low voice: "Why did my brother give you an amulet?"

Qin Fei pushed away Gu Wenkai's hand that was draped over his shoulder and said, "Last night when I was being chased by that little ghost, I ran into your older brother. Probably because of the shock from being charged at by that little ghost, my protective charm was ruined, so your older brother offered to make me a new one."

  "Is that it?"

  "That's it."

Gu Wenkai lowered his head and remained silent for a moment before saying, "This is unscientific!"

Qin Fei took a look at Gu Wenkai, whose face was written all over with "my brother can't be a good person", and said: "Maybe your brother is giving you face..."

"No, there's no way that's possible." Gu Wenkai firmly denied the reason. What face? His older brother didn't even know what that thing was!

Qin Fei did not refute Gu Wenkai, he carefully thought back to last night's events, Gu Yin's attitude towards him changed, it seemed to be after that little devil attacked him? But what the specific reason was, Qin Fei couldn't infer from last night's events.
