Chapter 22: Return of the Soul 02
The curse on Qin Fei's body, Gu Yin has mentioned the sixth personal favor, which means he will help to lift the curse. However, lifting the curse is not a trivial matter that can be resolved in a short time, and at present Gu Yin's mood is not good, Qin Fei feels that it is unnecessary for him to continue staying here being found fault with from all sides.
After bidding farewell to Gu Yin, Qin Fei walked out of the room and followed Shao's housekeeper out.
Qin Fei had just walked out of the gate when he stepped into the courtyard and saw a tall, straight man standing outside the carved door. He seemed to be about to ring the doorbell, but seeing someone come out, his hand, which had just been raised, hesitated in mid-air before withdrawing back to its original position.
The gate was opened by Shao Guan's family, who walked in front of Qin Fei. Then Qin Fei also saw the man standing outside the door clearly. The man wore a black woolen coat, with a straight and slender figure, his face belonged to the type that looked very pleasing to the eye. His temperament was calm and steady, giving people a sense of reliability.
"Mr. Shao." The man looked at Mr. Shao and called out to him.
"Master Geng." Steward Shao nodded slightly.
"Is Gu Yin at home?" the man asked.
"Master is at home." said Shao the housekeeper, "I will send Master Qin back, but I won't send you in. You can go to the northwest corner room to find Master."
"I know, Manager Shao, you're busy, I'll go in and find him myself."
The man said and stepped inside, when he passed by Qin Fei's side, his footsteps paused slightly, nodded at him, as a greeting. Qin Fei was stunned, and when he reacted, the man had already walked past him.
"Who is that?" Qin Fei asked with some curiosity as he watched the man walk into the house.
"That's Young Master's friend, Geng Bowei." Shao Guan replied simply. He didn't particularly mention that Geng Bowei was from the Geng family, which excelled in ghost-taming techniques, and was also the eldest son of the main branch of the Geng family, just like Gu Yin's position in the Gu family. But saying these things to Qin Fei would be pointless anyway, as he wasn't part of this circle, and even if explained carefully, he probably wouldn't understand it fully.
Qin Fei wasn't the kind of person who would pry into others' business, and his question to Geng Bowen was just a casual inquiry without any intention of digging deeper. After Shao Guan's brief response, the topic of Geng Bowen was dropped.
Qin Fei left, but Gu Yin remained in the room without leaving. He sat on the same circular chair where Qin Fei had previously sat, holding the black soul stone he had retrieved from the lotus-shaped lamp, his face gloomy.
Gu Yin, he was reborn with memories of his past life, but his past life was already over 800 years ago. In fact, after his death in the previous life, he didn't care about whether he could enter reincarnation or not, what he cared about was only one person, whose name was Yuan Qing at that time. He was willing to wait for over 800 years in the underworld just for that person, clinging to the memories of that person, just so that when he reincarnated again, he could find him once more.
He had originally thought that Qin Fei was the reincarnation of Yuan Qing, but when the Soul Stone that only reacted to Yuan Qing was placed in the Return Spirit Lamp and activated, it did not produce the reaction he had expected.
Gu Yin was disappointed. He had been expecting to prove that Qin Fei was Yuan Qing for a long time, and after waiting for so long, the day had finally come, so he followed Shao Guan Jia to pick up Qin Fei today, almost eagerly wanting to see the evidence that Qin Fei was indeed Yuan Qing.
However, the unresponsive Soul Stone shattered his expectations, making his mood suddenly turn sour, and he couldn't help but vent his anger on Qin Fei. But Qin Fei didn't show much negative emotions towards his sarcasm, and in the end, he let him go without doing anything to him. Now thinking back to Qin Fei's calm demeanor, Gu Yin started to get angry again, wondering how he had managed to hold himself back from punching that annoying guy who looked unpleasant from head to toe.
Gu Yin's mouth was pursed into a cold, hard line as he expressionlessly re-strung the Soul Stone and hung it back around his neck. He had always thought himself to be very patient; not counting those eight hundred years in the underworld, in the nearly thirty years since he had been reincarnated as human, he had never found Yuan Qing's reincarnation, but he had also never felt this kind of anxiety before. Yet, simply because he had mistakenly identified someone that one time, he began to feel this inexplicable anxiety.
The sudden knock at the door startled Gu Yin out of his reverie.
Gu Yin turned his head to look at the closed door, which was knocked twice after a slight pause, followed by another rhythmic two knocks. This knocking habit, among the people he knew, only had one person, Geng Bowen. As for how Geng Bowen came in directly, Gu Yin thought about it briefly and understood what happened - this person must have been let in by Manager Shao before he went out. Geng Bowen was considered a friend of his, so when he came to find him, Manager Shao generally wouldn't intentionally come to notify him.
Gu Yin got up and went over to open the door, and indeed saw Geng Bowen standing outside.
"What are you doing here?" Gu Yin asked with some impatience after glancing at Geng Bowen.
Geng Bowen was quite used to Gu Yin's attitude of not knowing how to write courtesy, smiled and said: "You deliberately let Shao Guan come to my house to borrow the Soul Lantern, and there has been no news for so long. I have nothing to do these two days, so I came over to see if you encountered any trouble."
"Nothing's wrong. The Soul Lantern is temporarily useless, you can take it away." Gu Yin said as he walked out of the room and headed towards the living room.
Geng Bowen took a glance at the room, and his eyes fell on the Huihun Lantern placed on the bookshelf. He couldn't help but let out a sigh of frustration - it seemed he had come all this way just to be an errand boy for Gu Yin.
……
Qin Fei returned to the book bar before three o'clock. As soon as he walked in, he saw Shen Wei looking at him with a hesitant expression. Qin Fei took off his scarf and walked up to the counter, asking Shen Wei, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing." Shen Wei shook her head like a rattle drum and then began to busy herself in a pretentious manner.
Qin Fei was certain that Shen Wei wanted to say something to him, but he didn't know why she just wouldn't open her mouth. Since she wasn't speaking, Qin Fei naturally couldn't force the issue, so after looking at Shen Wei in confusion for a while, he walked over to his own seat and sat down.
After seeing Qin Fei walk away, Xie Zhe, who had been paying attention to the situation at the bar, walked into the bar quietly and asked Shen Wei in a low voice, "How is it? Did the boss tell you what he went out to do with that demon boy?"
"I dare not ask, you go ask instead." Shen Wei gazed at Xie Zhe with a hint of mystery.
"What's there to ask that can't be asked?" Xie Zhe inquired.
"If my boss finds out I'm snooping on him, I'll be embarrassed."
How come you didn't feel embarrassed when you were eavesdropping? Xie Zhe glanced at Shen Wei sideways, and... "How did you know that my boss found out I was eavesdropping on him, I wouldn't be embarrassed?"
Shen Wei patted Xie Zhe's shoulder with her hand and said with a firm expression: "I believe in you."
Xie Zhe: "......" What do you believe me for?
Shen Wei and Xie Zhe were chatting idly when the bell above the door of the book bar rang out, signaling someone's arrival. The two simultaneously looked up towards the corridor and unexpectedly found that the newcomer was Xiao Rong, a young woman who used to come every Saturday but had not appeared in the book bar for a long time.
