Resurrection of the Dead

  Corpse Revival

But before I could even react, an even more frightening scene unfolded.

The corpse's tightly closed eyes suddenly opened, revealing a pair of eyes covered with white scales, gray and murky to the point where the whites and pupils were completely invisible, dry and shriveled like the eyes of a long-dead fish.

I almost fell to the ground with a thud, and the little doctor stumbled away to one side, his mouth shouting in terror, one hand still clutching the other. I glanced over and saw that the hand he had inserted into the corpse's mouth was covered in fresh blood, bright red liquid still flowing out of it.

The corpse not only opened its eyes but also bit people?

  It's really freaking out.

Bang, bang! Jin Haicheng fired two shots at the corpse's head, creating two small holes in its skull. A stream of grayish-white, rotten tofu-like substance flowed out from inside, looking like brain pulp.

However, the two shots apparently had no effect and instead seemed to have awakened the corpse. A gurgling sound came from its throat, and it actually flipped over and tried to crawl out of the morgue drawer.

"Hurry up and retreat." Jin Haicheng said, firing two more shots at the corpse.

My elder brother, you'd better run away quickly yourself. Haven't you seen that big hole on its belly? Such a big one didn't affect it, what's the use of covering those two small eyes?

"It's a zombie! Don't let it catch you!" I shouted loudly, then retreated first.

A few people scattered in all directions, and before the body had even crawled out of the morgue cabinet, we were already dispersed to various corners of the mortuary.

"Xiao Xu, last time we met was almost the same as this one, do you see any way to deal with it?" Jin Haicheng stood on the wall opposite me, he and Ma Jian temporarily blocked the movement of the corpses by pushing two idle carts against the morgue cabinets.

I'm also anxious, although I'm now a member of the Taoist sect, but I haven't really learned anything from my master. For the first time facing this supernatural situation alone, I'm completely at a loss.

The corpse in front of us is clearly not one of those three easy-to-deal-with types, but I don't know if it's a "bone-raised" or "blemish-raised" one. For bone-raised ones, you need to break their bones, and for blemish-raised ones, you need to destroy the blemishes. Unfortunately, we're currently locked in this peaceful room with no blunt objects or flamethrowers nearby, so it's really not easy to handle this situation with just our bare fists.

Just as I was thinking of a brain 'confused' time, the corpse finally crawled out of the hiding cabinet. It stretched out its hand and flicked it, and the cart in front of me was thrown away. With a loud crash, it hit the side of the hiding cabinet, directly crashing into a big hole on the metal door, and even the metal guardrail of the cart was bent by the impact.

  What great strength!

It wasn't until now that I finally realized how ridiculous my initial idea was. With the strength of a walking corpse, it's like crushing a living person with ease. Just relying on our five people, even if we work together, it's not certain that we can handle it.

And Jin Haicheng had said before that the zombies he encountered not only bit people, but also tore their throats.

Just as the whole family was in a state of chaos, that foolish security guard rushed forward with his mop handle. It's unclear whether the zombie failed to react or was stunned by the security guard's innate aura, but the security guard struck the zombie on the head with one swing of the mop handle. The corpse didn't have any reaction at all, and instead the mop handle was suddenly snapped in two.

"Ah!" The security guard shouted, holding up the remaining half of the mop handle and poking it at the zombie's face again. This time, the zombie reacted, slapping a palm on the security guard's chest, sending him flying several meters away, where he lay on the ground, wailing "Ahh, ahh" nonstop.

The corpses began to move, heading straight for me and the young doctor.

The mortuary is not small in size, but most of the space on both sides is occupied by the storage cabinets for corpses, so there is not much space left for us to hide.

The movement speed of the corpse is not much different from that of a normal person, but its walking posture is somewhat different from others, similar to that of a marionette. It was only then that I remembered that the joints of a corpse that has been resurrected are stiff and cannot bend.

The corpse walked past the security guard's side, as if he didn't see him, and was about to come in front of me, but suddenly turned around and ran out towards another direction where a small doctor was.

The little doctor was frightened out of his wits, and even forgot to run away, standing stupidly in place with his legs shaking like a leaf.

"Idiot, run quickly!" I shouted at the young doctor.

I've figured it out, the zombie has no vision, seems to have some hearing, and its sense of smell is quite sharp. So it won't defend itself against the broomstick coming straight at it, but instead gives up on the security guard and me, who are within arm's reach, to grab the little doctor. Because the little doctor's hands are covered in blood, the bloody smell must be the most tempting for it.

"My legs have gone soft, I can't run anymore." The young doctor said with a sobbing tone. Good guy, this coward directly went weak in the knees and collapsed to the ground.

Just as the zombie's hands were about to touch the young doctor, Ma Jian suddenly rushed over and collided with the zombie from the side, hugging it and rolling onto the ground. I seized the opportunity and hurried forward, pulling the young doctor out.

The zombie was knocked to the ground, but it sprang back up and with a swift motion of its hands, pulled Ma Jian down from where he was hanging. To say that Ma Jian was about 1.75 meters tall, but being grasped by the zombie's two hands, he looked like a small child being lifted, no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn't break free.

The zombie let out a low growl, and I thought it was going to bite someone, but that wasn't what happened. The zombie swung its arms and sent Ma Jian flying. Ma Jian, who was still slightly weak from dehydration, crashed into the wall and passed out cleanly.

"Huh." I couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. The security guard at the feet of the walking corpse was one thing, after all, it wasn't easy for him to bend down. But this time, Ma Jian had practically served himself up on a silver platter, so how could he just throw it away like that?

Is the flesh and blood of a young doctor more suitable for the taste of a zombie?

I looked down at the young doctor again, and saw that although his hand was bleeding quite a bit and looked scary, in reality all five fingers were intact and not even half of them were missing. I simply took off the latex gloves on his hands, and indeed his fingertips had not been bitten off or anything, just two pinprick-sized spots on his middle finger, pitch black.

Could it be that he was bitten by an insect or something? But the amount of blood flowing out is really terrifying, just like his mother's artery being cut open. Even if the entire finger was bitten off, it wouldn't bleed this much, and at this rate, if the young doctor isn't killed by the zombie, he'll die from excessive blood loss.

The young doctor came to himself and also found that his situation was not very optimistic. He used his rubber gloves to tie a knot on the wrist of the injured hand, which was a simple hemostasis. You can't say, after all, it's a professional who handled it this way, and the bleeding situation did decrease a lot.

It only took a short while for the zombies to knock one of them down, and it seemed like the young doctor and the security guard were also beyond hope. Only I and Jin Haicheng were still able to move freely.

Jin Hai Cheng also ran over, and the two of us dragged Xiao Yi to the base of the wall opposite, finally opening up some distance from the walking corpses.

What's going on? My anxious heart is about to jump out of my throat, and I don't even know a single spell to control the undead.

The corpse stood still for a moment, as if sniffing the direction. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck me, and I crouched down and ran back again.

"Everyone, brothers and sisters, I've wronged you all in order to survive." I muttered to myself.

  Guess what I've done?

I pulled open all the bottom drawers on both sides, pulling them out to the top, and the two sides just touched each other, sealing off a small passage. The joints of the corpse cannot bend, which means it cannot bend its waist or lift its "legs" over obstacles.

From the moment the zombie was knocked down by Ma Jian, I realized that although it walked at a moderate speed, once it fell, it would take some effort to get back up. My guess was correct, and when the zombie reached the front of the first row of coffins, it tripped and took a lot of effort to climb back up.

This practice of preventing zombies from entering the house is more common in Tibet, where zombies are said to appear frequently. Tibetans, fearing the invasion of zombies, often build an additional low wall when building houses or cattle sheds, and the doors of the houses are usually very low, which can effectively prevent zombies from entering.

"Brother Jin, come and help!" I shouted to Jin Haicheng, he also understood what I meant, and hurried over to assist.

Fortunately, not many of the coffins in the bottom row were occupied by corpses, so they were relatively light to pull out. By the time the zombies climbed up from the first row, we had already pulled out all the coffins in the second row.

However, after the corpse in the first row fell down twice, it found a solution. It stretched out its "leg" and kicked the coffin in front of it out of the way, and with another kick, it was knocked over, thus breaking through the first roadblock.

"Damn it, this thing doesn't even have a brain, how can it be so smart?" Jin Haicheng cursed.

My original plan was to use this method to hold out until dawn, as the book said that even zombies known for being immune to knives and guns would return to their coffins at sunrise and hide, and naturally, the corpse wouldn't be able to hold on until sunrise either. And after other doctors started work, maybe someone would discover what had happened in the morgue.

But now, my plan has fallen through. The corpse-blocking cabinet that was kicked open by the walking dead can still block them for a bit, but there are still three or four hours until sunrise, and we're only twenty meters away from the walking dead - who knows when they'll show up in front of us?

And now there are coffins scattered all over the place, making it even more troublesome for us to escape.
